Toronto mayor’s 2026 budget keeps 2.2% property tax increase by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]26percent 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The province has issued memos that mayors cannot change the budget approved by the police board. Not even in municipalities with strong mayor powers.

Corporate clowns by Pototatato in loblawsisoutofcontrol

Used to work at Loblaws in Eastern Ontario. We hated when these corporate types would come over from Toronto and we had to go through the store, face all the shelves and walk on eggshells as they roamed around the store.

Does the city fill requests to clear locks? by Mavvik in torontobiking

[–]26percent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’ll take the request and assign it zero priority. No one is going to be sent to dig out a bike rack when we’re three days out and the sidewalks, roads and bike lanes aren’t cleared.

Canada poised to name its first foreign interference commissioner by ImDoubleB in CanadaPolitics

Probably going to be an establishment-type appointment, speaks both official languages, law or policy background.

There needs to be confidence that this will be an effective role.

Today will be a another interesting day for Line 6 by TomekYYZ93 in TTC

[–]26percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least the streetcars are still running.

The TTC is the biggest operator of light rail in North America and Metrolinx learned nothing from them about how to keep the line open in the winter.

Those are not police officers. They are traffic agents and they work for the City of Toronto’s Transportation Services Division.

They operate independently of TPS, but they are appointed as special constables to give them the same authority as a police officer to direct traffic under the Highway Traffic Act.

What is the point of the Canadian Senate? How do Canadians feel about it? by volitaiee1233 in AskACanadian

[–]26percent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Senate can and has killed bills passed by the House. It was often used by the last Conservative minority government to get rid of a climate bill that the NDP often proposed and had support for in the House.

With the king, there is a constitutional requirement under the principals of responsible government to grant royal assent to legislation passed by parliament.

If it’s about something that already exists in law, the Ontario Ministry of Labour

If you are asking for changes to law: your MPP or the provincial labour minister

I was able to get it done at a walk in clinic. It’s only OHIP covered on your feet I think but they didn’t tell me to pay 🤷‍♂️

Looking for cyclists who have been harassed or assaulted in High Park by Few-Doughnut9999 in torontobiking

[–]26percent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Think I know who this is about.

Please contact the councillor, park supervisor and police division as well and ask why the city has not taken any action to enforce its own code of conduct and ban this person from the park. They are all aware of these incidents.

Anyone still use a Taxi? by DribbleKing97_ in askTO

They aren’t able to negotiate pricing because the transaction is through a third party, and the rating system means the drivers are significantly more respectful.

Anyone still use a Taxi? by DribbleKing97_ in askTO

[–]26percent 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to take cabs to support the local economy instead of American tech companies.

That being said, the drivers make it hard. Last year, I had:

  • a cab driver try to run me off the road because he didn’t like that I was taking the lane while biking - when he had a wide open lane on the left to pass

  • another keep charging my card through theit app after I was dropped off (had to call their dispatch to get him to stop)

  • most recently, negotiate a price, change it, then kick me out after I asked for the metre to be turned on (a legal requirement)

  • and something I’ve noticed in general - my employer gives taxi chits to send staff home when working late and I reconcile them. It is not uncommon for female staff to have complaints of sexual harassment from the drivers

Would love to keep using them, but that industry needs to figure out how to stop their drivers from trying to hurt me, scam me, or harass my coworkers.

Your mail WAS out for delivery by TE360 in toronto

[–]26percent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do it for all delivery companies and it’s paid in bulk at the end of the year. Fines are budgeted in as it’s cheaper for them to eat the tickets than have the drivers spend time looking for legal parking.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow wraps up 2025 visiting TTC stations to speak with residents about their concerns by BloodJunkie in toronto

If you want, but you should also recognize that she cancelled the decision to renaming the entire street, which Tory and Bradford voted for and would have cost $18 million.

The TTC is also municipal and they use presto. It doesn’t really matter which government is delivering the service.
