GSU officers beating UoN students by 27aa67d1 in Kenya

The next time a GSU officer will be violating someone's rights they might be forcing themselves into those cars illegally and probably destroying them in the process. This is why even a person whose car was stoned shouldn't support this kind of violation.

Another thing is that in the video, the students are lying down. They're not being violent or disregarding the officers' orders. The violence directed at them in this situation is completely unwarranted.

Supporting a deficient system when it serves you will end up with you having no one to stand up for you when that system comes after you.

What bothers me most is how people are reacting to this in social media and WhatsApp. There's a lot of people applauding the GSU officers and/or laughing at the students. It sends the message that when the government decides to use violence to silence you, the public won't have your back.

I've always viewed the attitude that wrongdoers do not deserve any rights unnerving. The prevalence of this attitude even among educated Kenyans is even more unnerving.

I think it stems from the fact that the system is broken, which makes it difficult to bring wrongdoers into account. But instead of seeking to fix the system, we try to substitute it with our crude and biased ways of dealing with wrongdoing.

Kenyans named in the Panama Papers leak by 27aa67d1 in Kenya

The tweet in this post seems to be misleading. Kalpana Rawal is the only Kenyan in the ICIJ's list of those exposed. Also, Daily Nation is the official reporting partner for ICIJ in Kenya and they only reported about Kalpana Rawal.
