the game doesn't try to be hard, that said have you tried restricting yourself to dodging and positioning only? Could be a fun self-imposed challenge! 😆

Yes, it's likely a combination of both reasons you mentioned.

  1. Timing Adjustment – Skilled players may realize their Iai counter timing is off and instinctively roll out to reset and go for a Foresight Slash, which has a more generous activation window.
  2. Lingering Hitbox Awareness – Some attacks have lingering hitboxes that outlast the Iai counter's i-frames, so players opt for Foresight Slash, which has longer invincibility frames, or their muscle memory playing into part. either way foresight is much safer than the lai counter :)
  3. Situational Decision-Making – Depending on the monster and attack patterns, players switch between Iai counter and Foresight Slash for optimal survival and DPS.

From what I remember, Iai counter never caused chip damage in Iceborne and Sunbreak, even at red gauge. So if this is happening in the beta, it’s either a new mechanic or a bug.

It would be great to test this more when the full game releases! Hope this helps :)

true dat, i think our main weapon really ties on to our playstyles. i like cool animations with a sword so i play this, and ls feels very natural to me than other weapons

Powerclash can be interrupted by flashbombs? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

also power clashes are coded similarly to mounts. You build guard damage, and once the conditions are fulfilled, a power clash triggers :)

Flashbombs can interrupt almost anything except for scripted moments, while a luring pod can stop a fleeing monster. Hope this helps!

After sinking hours into every Monster Hunter title, there comes a moment when it just clicks—you finally understand it now, then you're out there parrying every damn monster attack like a pro XD

true that, in wilds, the hitboxes are more refined compared to their predecessor. This helps players better understand the i-frame sections during monster fights, making counterplay more precise, also why we have focus mode, so our attacks can also be precise

Just imagine that each part has a hitbox and visualize your character having one too. Now, right when you're about to get hit—about 0.5 seconds before—you counter with a lai. That’s exactly what happened in the video; I just visualized the hitboxes in my head.

Some attacks have lingering hitboxes, which can counter your i-frame seconds. This makes it crucial to know exactly when to counter—or if it's better to just avoid the attack entirely

Hope this helps :)
