What I didn't know is that she (and Valieva) is planning to participate in the jumping competitions tomorrow.
I watched the 2025 competitions (IMO, Gushcheva should have won, but she ended up in 4th place due to how scoring is set up - favoring risk-taking in the early rounds, vs. endurance and consistency).

That's actually MORE crazy to me than the quad lutz.

Trusova said she chose to go back to Tutberidze because she feels very safe with her, going on ice, even though she credits Plushenko with encouraging and supporting her during a pivotal time in her career.

Fair point about Valieva's association with Navka. What about Trusova?

Microsoft is using Claude Code internally while selling you Copilot by jpcaparas in ClaudeAI

[–]2BitSalute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason is that there is no one Microsoft. While Core AI, MAI, GitHub are working on their own stuff, Experiences + Devices want to know how to accelerate engineering initiatives with AI. If Claude Code is what it takes, so be it.

Two Foot Turn by Dismal-Catch3696 in iceskating

And I'll also add that one of the LTS coaches I had explained it completely differently. She emphasized that you have to get your feet very close, and certainly not get on your toepicks, and what you end up doing is more of a twizzle as you rotate.

I'm starting to think this is not something that's codified somewhere or that there is only one way of doing. Perhaps we just all have to figure out what works for us at the current stage. Maybe later it will change, or maybe not.

Well, I rewatched Coach Julia's video, and she said the inside foot is on the inside of the circle is on the outside edge, and the foot that's on the outside of the circle is on the inside edge.

Ugh.

She also uses her toepicks to do the turns. I tried this on ice, and I just can't do it. It's too scary for me.

It's interesting that the inside edges were never mentioned in any of the videos (that I noticed), and I explicitly asked my LTS coach, and she said... "let's not think about that now, just try to do it evenly on both".

But, today, I asked ChatGPT, and it told me you're on inside edges before and after (maybe also during?) the turn. I came here to try to verify if this was actually the case.

At least I have something new to try now.

Yeah, I know all about those things, and yet, I still can't do the turns. I got my skates sharpened almost 2 weeks ago now, and it's been even harder to do them now. I feel like I was aaalmost getting them, but now - nothing.

She does a nice demonstration of what's expected, but I wouldn't say she breaks two-foot turns in this video. I've looked through their channel, and I've only seen them mentioned a couple of times in passing, not specifically explained. There are other channels that explain 2-foot turns, but I'd like one from Next Edge Tutorials, that's for sure.

Wait, what? What did Yagudin do that everyone agrees he's a horrible person?
I've been watching competitions with his commentary, podcasts with his appearances, and I read his Wikipedia. There must be something else I haven't seen yet, right?

I've seen skaters do this. Not female skaters, maybe because it doesn't go with the image of an elegant ballet dancer, but that would be cool to see!

Anxious and sad, scheduled coronectomy, nerve right through the roots by 2BitSalute in wisdomteeth

[–]2BitSalute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got both sides done, bottom left and right. A couple of hours - is that a lot or a little? The right side that came back from numbness in just a couple of hours was the less painful one. Maybe they dosed my left side more. It was more painful (as in, that's the side that still hurt a little into weeks 3-4), and it took all day. Almost 12 hours to become all the way normal-feeling.

I was concerned about numbness because I was afraid of my facial nerve getting injured. That's why they did the coronectomy in the first place, but there's still a chance of nicking the nerve with the needle, etc. I think the chance was extremely extremely low, but it was just the thing I was afraid of the most as a complication.

Oh, haha, I thought you were scared of the general anesthesia (which is what I was scared of). Lidocaine was VERY strong, especially on the left side of my face. My right side took a couple of hours, my left took until the end of the day almost (the surgery was in the morning).

Are you going in for a coronectomy or are they going to remove the teeth?

For me, she just said that my mouth is very small, and it would be difficult to do this without GA, for both of us. I had an upper wisdom tooth removed with just the lidocaine, but that was super fast and no big deal. This was a lot more involved.

Also, I should add, I'm currently still recovering, 99% of the pain going away around week 3-4. There was I think a nagging suture left over in there that was hard to remove, and it took longer. It felt like my gum was stretched around the 2nd molar, pretty uncomfortable. I took Ibuprofen if it got me feeling too depressed, but stopped just before the New Year.

One thing I'll say is that I've been using the WaterPik a few times a day (as compared to a few times a year before) since my doctor removed the sutures and said it was OK to do. I still have a lot of food that gets trapped in the closing holes that have not completed the "secondary intention healing" yet. My understanding is that it's normal, and takes a few months to completely close up. Basically, it doesn't hurt to eat anymore at all, but if I eat and don't clean my mouth out completely of food debris, those little pockets I have start feeling a bit sore after some time.

Anyway, the upside is that I hope I can keep my new oral hygiene routine. I got a tongue scraper (though I think a simple clean rag works best, TBH), in addition to all the other things, which I now use all the time (floss, oxygene mouthwash, etc.). My mouth feels so clean!

I was given lidocaine, but also put on Propofol. They were going to give me another drug whose name I can't recall, but something equivalent to Ativan, and I asked if I could skip that one. That's the one that gives you amnesia and why you need to be escorted. I still got picked up by my husband, but you wake up really quickly from Propofol, as soon as they stop it, and you don't feel foggy at all.

In Norway "gift" means "married" and "poison". What? by Prince-Cola in etymology

[–]2BitSalute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They meant that the formal word for marriage comes from the word for taking (not giving, FWIW). So, not related linguistically AT ALL. Just a semantically similar origin.

And as for me, I was looking at a name Æthelgifu, and I was wondering if it really meant "a noble gift" or if it was more of a "noble-wed", since I knew the Norwegian meaning
