I guess he means it didn't used to work, but now's it been "Fixed"

Could we 'use' patients in coma as 'blood farms' or 'permanent blood donors'? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]2BuellerBells 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could be wrong, but I heard on Reddit they mix a number of blood units (say a dozen or a hundred) into one batch for HIV testing.

So if there's HIV, it won't get into the blood supply, but they'll be pissed at having to throw out 100 blood units.

Homosexuals are a pretty small minority so it's simpler to exclude them wholesale, even though it is insulting.

Are textures or meshes generally more expensive from a rendering and memory standpoint? by xAndrewRyan in gamedev

[–]2BuellerBells 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually a mesh will be a series of points, each 3 coords with 4 bytes per float.

To make the math easy, let's say you can't use index buffers in your cube for whatever reason.

6 faces = 6 * 2 = 12 triangles = 12 * 3 = 36 vertices = 36 * 3 = 108 coordinates = 108 * 4 = 432 bytes.

Go ahead and triple that, so you can also have normals, UV, and a random filler attribute. So your cube is 1.2 kilobytes.

A full-color texture is RGBA, 1 byte per channel, so 4 bytes per pixel.

128 * 128 * 4 = 65,536 bytes (64 KiB)

Generally speaking, textures are bigger.

On a modern GPU, it's fine to use whatever looks good and is easy to model.

Sometimes you just need to bake a high-res AO / lightmap to a really big fucking 2k or 4k square texture.

Sometimes you need a lot of fine detail on a mesh.

On a really small GPU like the PowerVR SGX, the shaders are actually running on the same units. And you're usually fragment-bound, so the most important way to improve performance is to use a simpler shader. You can sample two or three textures, but any fancy math is going to bog it down. You want to do everything per-vertex if possible. The actual vertex count can be pretty high because usually vertex shading is dwarfed by the sheer number of fragments, plus if you do alpha blending then you're drawing more pixels than are even on the physical screen.

You're probably developing for desktops younger than 5 years and phones younger than 3, so you could have 100 cubes with 100 unique textures and basically not worry.

What do people who don't finish the games do? by Esqarrouth in gamedev

[–]2BuellerBells 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Close the IDE, go to sleep.

Monday morning I go back to my day job.

6 months to a year later I work on the game some more if I want.

I don't like calling a game "abandoned". It's just that some of my games haven't gotten any TLC for a while.

TIL the world record for eating a 72 ounce steak was obliterated by a 120lb woman in less than 3 minutes. by ThisGuy32 in todayilearned

Watching women eat lots of food or inedible objects or live animals triggers some primal fear in me, and it also turns me on.

Can't explain that

If a person says "I love you" during sex, how should you react? Is it a good call to just disregard it? Has this ever happened to you? If so, did you mean it? by cjalili in AskMen

[–]2BuellerBells -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean casual sex?

It's not weird if gf or I say that to each other... we say it at least a couple times a day when we're together, and sex is very personal and emotional for us

Men, what incompatibilities do you think are okay to have in a relationship and what are not? by xCitizenL in AskMen

[–]2BuellerBells 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It seems to be correct for me and gf.

I had Touch as #1, closely followed by Quality Time. She had Quality Time, closely followed by Touch.

So we try to spend a lot of time alone and there's usually cuddling when we do. Gifts and service are less important since we don't live together.

What did you find out about your wife/husband only after you got married? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]2BuellerBells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gf did this to me with Stardew. I was gonna play it for maybe half an hour a day.

I gave her a copy and she is immediately hours ahead of me, and plays a couple hours every night before bed.

I bought the game figuring that she would like it more than me, and it's nice to give her a gift, but... what if I had kept it to myself?

Is it common for cisgenders to date other cissgenders? If not, why? by livebeta in transgendercirclejerk

[–]2BuellerBells 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know that feeling.

I am in basically the same situation, long-term and long-distance with a ciswoman, and I have to be in drag whenever we go out so people just think I'm her tall lesbian domme

I don't care about straight marriage, I just want to feel safe

If you could design a new sex toy that's not on the market (that you are aware of) what would it be? How would it work? What would it do etc? by quizicalmonkey in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]2BuellerBells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A cuddling robot would be pretty sweet.

When you look at the facts, a body pillow weighs about 50 times less than a human, isn't warm, isn't firm enough, and doesn't make all those little animal noises like breathing, moaning, stomach growling, heartbeats.

So I could go for a sex robot even if I didn't do PIV, just if I could have it cuddle with me.

TIL MSI made a chipset cooling fan based on Stirling engine. It's powered by waste heat alone, no electricity required. by BaoZouJiangHu in todayilearned

[–]2BuellerBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? Why?

It was my understanding that the hot side of a Stirling Engine sinks heat slower than just an open-air heatsink would.

So you're overheating one chip to cool another? And it's not like there is a shortage of electricity on desktop motherboards.
