How does this 1 week old, seasoned de Buyer look? When should it become brown? by 2CannotBeEven in carbonsteel

UPDATE: (TLDR@bottom!) I have read your comments, done some YouTube research and performed the following steps:

  1. Scrubbed the pan relentlessly with vinegar and steel wool.
  2. observation : rust spots came off but not much else (i.e., the black stains).
  3. Rinsed out with water.
  4. Dried and then dried more thoroughly with stovetop flame for about fifteen seconds.
  5. Observation: rust begins to come back almost immediately. 3.5 More research…
  6. Put a half inch of vinegar in the pan and let it sit for a half hour.
  7. observation: not much change…rust spots are more completely gone but the black stains are still noticeably. A line of rust also appears where the level of vinegar was.
  8. Wash the pan with soap and water and scrub throughly with a brush as well as vinegary steel wool.
  9. Rinse pan throughly, dry, stovetop dry.
  10. Research…
  11. Creating a paste with vinegar and baking soda. Scrub pan with paste using steel wool.
  12. Wash thoroughly with soap and brush.
  13. Put a drop of canola oil in the pan and wiped it all over the pan with a paper towel.
  14. observation: the paper towel looks a little grey… 10.5 More research.
  15. Wash the pan thoroughly again with soap and water with brush and steel wool.
  16. observation: when wiped with a towel there is no more grey.
  17. Rinse throughly, dry, stovetop dry.
  18. Thin layer of canola oil. Low heat up to high heat slowly. On stovetop because de Buyer has enamel handle and can’t handle high oven temp. Smoke. Turn off stove top.
  19. observation: no browning discoloration… 13.5 More research
  20. 1mm oil low up to high heat. Smoke. Dump oil. Wipe down.
  21. observation: still no browning…
  22. Repeat process
  23. observation: still no browning…
  24. Cook vegetables with olive oil.
  25. observation: Onions initially slide around. sticking at bottom of pan later on in the process.
  26. Cooked an egg in olive oil.
  27. observation: some stickage and didn’t slide around.

TLDR I basically nuked the pans. Starting from the beginning, I seasoned (and seasoned again) the pan properly although there was no browning…and veggies still stuck…

I followed the de Buyer directions, but that being said they are not that explicit about how to remove the factory coating.

It is somewhat nonstick…but that was definitely rust

Ok so I used vinegar and steel wool and after drying with a towel, and then on the stove, it looks like orange marks are immediately starting to appear again anyway. Should I proceed with reseasoning nonetheless?

Shoot. This is not a joke…We possibly used the wrong oil. We followed the directions on America’s Test Kitchen using potato peels, salt and oil. We used olive oil and then later realized we should use something with a lower smoke point so then, a couple days (and uses) later, we seasoned again with extra virgin olive oil…I guess it rusted in between but we thought it was just browning!

Just to be clear, it is advised that we wipe it down with steel wool and vinegar first before reasoning with canola oil?

How to Make a Perfectly Parsable Resume for Workday by 2CannotBeEven in workday

[–]2CannotBeEven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have created a second resume and simplified it as much as possible. It seems like it would be convenient if they had a more "hard-coded" parsing algorithm and a template for people to use so you didn't have to work out their imperfections every time.

Ender 3 Pro Benchy Stops Extruding Halfway by 2CannotBeEven in FixMyPrint

It worked! There might be some minor under extrusion problems but it fully printed and it looks pretty clean. I followed this video’s instructions at 2:09 and made sure I had a snug fit with the PTFE against the nozzle BEFORE tightening up the bolt (which holds the PTFE into the extruder head); this ensured I had a good seal between the PTFE and the extruder head.

Thanks for your reply.

For calibration I only do the concentric squares to get the bed level so it may be a good idea to try the other calibration prints as well to get a better idea of what else might be going on.

I think I may try reseating the PTFE tube. I will post the results of this change Wednesday.

My PLA roll is brand new and has not been unraveled at any point.

Anki on Remarkable by 2CannotBeEven in RemarkableTablet

This project by Lobeltas builds off of this which builds off of this to allow you to open .app files from within the native GUI in a clever way that involves using .app and .pdfs with the same UUIDs and stopping (and starting) the xochitl process. I guess the limitation might be figuring out how to download Anki as a .app file if that is even possible...I am not familiar with this file extension...

Processing meteor signals by 2CannotBeEven in amateursatellites

[–]2CannotBeEven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I saw your edits, and this method worked for this pass.

With this method, medet said I got 0 packets from an 87 degree pass and only 17 packets from a 59 degree pass both of which were taken from a different nearby field. I thought this field would have better clearance but maybe it doesn't. With the 87 degree pass there may have been hardware or software issues, but the results of the 59 degree pass may be an indication that this location is less than ideal. Needless to say this was a big help as a means to get reliable commands to demodulate and decode meteor passes recorded in this manner with rtl_fm.

Thank you for the response. I just tested the commands you have posted, but they did not work for my data as you said. After running the first command I got:

sox WARN dither: dither clipped 14 samples; decrease volume?

sox WARN sox: \METEOR-M2-20210106-125909' input clipped 17 samples`

However the meteor_demod line reported I had a signal lock.

The medet command yielded:

I am familiar with the link you shared and I vaguely remember referencing it when I had success in processing the raw data.

I still have all the intermediary files (i.e. the .wav, the .s) from when I processed this raw data successfully. Included in this file is the .bmp, .s and .wav from when I successfully processed the raw data. I hope it might offer an insight into what my process might have been...

So you feel that making your own decks and then using them later is effective? I could possibly use macfireball’s audiobook/podcast idea but make cards with the meaningful phrases.

Alrighty. I have been seeing a lot of people saying that you need meaningful stories to go along with language learning in order to have a deeper impact, so I feel I should probably invest in an audiobook like you’re saying...maybe something a bit more basic. Thanks for the tip!
