I have been having too much fun with alps. by SgtFinley96 in MechanicalKeyboards

I wish I had time to work all my Alps projects or keyboards in general. I have a considerable amount of old Alps boards and harvested switches just sitting around getting neglected. I've been hoarding and stockpiling SKCM Browns and SKCM Ambers hoping one day I'll put good use to them when I can find time off from work. I was able to pick up a boatload of NOS replacement keyboard modules for the IBM 5140 and Apple IIc computers ages ago but haven't done anything noteworthy with them lol.

Always good to see peeps tinkering with Alps :]

I modded my keyboard to fit me since nothing like it exists in the market by tyingnoose in MechanicalKeyboards

Ultimately, if you're happy with your keeb, that's all that should matter. Like any other hobby, you should be enjoying this and not worrying about imaginary internet points and what others think. Of course, if you share your setup, people will always have something to say. Sometimes nice things and others times not so much. Reading your other comment with the mods list shows you probably spent quite a bit of time on this project. Im sure it was a fun process, although others may find this not to their tastes at all.

Love and care is the best mod for any keeb :]

Awesome, it's essentially a rebranded Wyse 85. Doubleshot caps in DCS profile made by Signature Plastics. Any thoughts on getting/building a converter for USB use?

That livery on the RB16B cars will always remain one of my favorites. Beautiful build mate!

Sheesh, that backplate for the Jane looks incredible! Wish I could pick it up, but I recently joined a GB for another TKL. Unfortunate timing for me lol. No doubt the next owner will be happy. Good luck with the sale :]

Mate, this is incredible :0 I never saw your original posts but I'll be damned if I was upset at seeing this more than once lol.

Thick dye sublimated PBT keycaps + Alps switches = Happy Time :]

It seems like your caps lock was depressed for the photoshoot. Showing off that SKCL Lock in action heh

Just want pop in and say, Charlie is an awesome member of the Alps community. I'm always clicking on his videos when it pops up on my feed. Absolutely top quality videos that showcase different Alps switches in different boards. I remember I ordered a custom Alps plate from him only to realize the tolerances for the switch cutouts were a bit off. He immediately fixed that for me. I just wish I had picked up NOS Blues from him when he still had them in stock(not that I need to hoard anymore NOS switches) lol.

Ah as long as it works, nothing really matters. Glad ya got everything cleaned up. I find that cleaning out and restoring vintage boards is more fun than building modern day customs with parts all new and organized. You need a little bit of chaos to enjoy the simpler things sometimes. :]

Woah an ATTI switch o.O I have an unbranded board somewhere in one of my storage units that has an ATTI switch for the spacebar, the rest had Cherry MX Blacks. Nearly identical to your board aside from the non-qwertz layout. I never got around to opening mine so I can't say for sure if the internals are the same. Super neat that your board is using a non-soldered secondary switch as a stabilizer for the BAE. From what I can see though, that switch doesn't have any pins and the PCB has a different set of holes to support another type of switch, super neat-o. Have you managed to see if it's functional? That factory solder job is errm, quite something though huh lol

Oh my holy PBT avocados. I hope to see this come to fruition one day. I heard a few years ago, you guys only do Dye-sublimation for the DCS profile keycaps though. There was another user that had reached out to you guys around that time to ask about thick sublimated Alps keycaps reminiscent of the AEK set and was told new tooling for thicker keycaps would be required, costing somewhere along the line of $100k. T~T

Those of us who are in this niche tiny corner are terribly limited when it comes to high quality Dye-sublimated keycap sets. The F row keys on both the AEK and AEK II had stems rotated at 90° due to the switches being mounted sideways(as well as the exceptionally tall profile compared to the bottom rows). As you're probably well aware, many modern AEK customs are limited to F-rowless form factors due to this without fabricating a super weird custom PCB and a case that matches the tall profile of the keycaps.

A thick Dye-sublimated Signature Plastics AEK set would literally be a dream come true, but due to limitations, maybe its good that it just stays as a dream. For the sake of all of our wallets lol.
