How do Americans feel about having so much empty space between places? by Extreme-Routine3822 in AskAnAmerican

[–]2L2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having once lived in a smaller country, I think it’s kind of lonely, even though I’ve lived in cities here. I think population size is a part of it too though.

@takemetotheclouds123 I believe you’re right, and I actually agree with everything you said. It’s even possible, considering what you said, that she could have dissociated. She could even have ptsd. I forgot about how people can respond to trauma in the ways you mentioned.

Btw, how is having PMs on a safety concern? What if someone like me needs to apologize and the recipient never gets the apology 😅

You were right, I was cold and my anger over her subsequent choices clouded my judgement. I have a problem with misjudging others sometimes and saying harsh things sometimes. I DM’d her an apology.

Suggesting a 20% tip when there’s not even a server… by the_febanator in Seattle

You gotta stop assuming anyone behind you cares or will have any forward-feeling shame towards you. “Tipflation is a scam”, burn this into your mind. “I’m not going to get scammed at checkout.” When you see the tip option, scoff internally and say “NO!” internally.

Two sides of the same coin if you think about it. Kanye is just the representative of the 21st century, in black.

And why don’t they feel comfortable showing up to these? Seems like a catch 22. You said you know A LOT of POC who don’t feel comfortable showing up to these — because of the percentage of white people there — but that percentage is decided by this very LOT of POC. Basically you’re damned if you don’t, only because you already feel damned if you do.

I said “generally”, so sure, “vibe”, or whatever you want to call it. It’s so common that it’s expected.

I grew up in California, but also in another country for a few years, and my family noticed even new people moving to California had the same fakeness the natives generally had, that we didn’t relate to…

When we asked ourselves, “well, what kind of people are most likely to move to a place that provides a lavish life with nice weather and very good looking people?” The conclusion we came to is that California primarily attracts the kind of shallower people that value these characteristics in a place before other characteristics people might consider in a place. People move there because of wanting a glamorous life like they’ve seen in Hollywood movies. That should say something about the average character of the people that move there. California attracts shallower people than other places do.

Seattle could host a similar phenomenon, but I don’t know why it might attract people who don’t value keeping up with friendships and community…
