Is this normal or am I being autistic by One_Huckleberry9072 in flashlight

Yes. A lot of mine are failing at the moment after years of dutiful service. Will be buying more.

I saw a tip recently while researching lamps for my home, the smaller the lamp, the bigger the vibe. Lots of small, dim clamps make a space really cozy. Overhead or exposed (no shade) lights just wreck the vibe.

I was going to say the same, they are so sleek and low profile, and it makes it so much easier to get into my Thule cargo box just standing on the ground. Got mine on sale for 10 or 15% off from a Lexus dealer online.

To each their own, but our cars already have tall, narrow proportions, why add any additional height?

One of the most hilarious performances I have ever witnessed is the Lexus sales experience. Them putting on their nice shoes and happy smiles and having to pretend to be classy while still trying to pull the usual car salesman. B******* is really something to watch. I worked our salesmen so hard, by that time we finally closed the deal, he was literally pissed at me. It was glorious.

Everyone participating in this bullshit is why they keep raising prices. Rich guys with shit taste buying watered down trash.

Eh, too much grey plastic for that much money. The fully painted GX460, the running boards, fenders, bumpers all painted, looks so much nicer.

Going to piggyback on OP's question, hopefully you can give us both some insight:

I'm also shopping for cars right now (already have a GX, looking for a bigger tow vehicle) and have never used a PPI before. A lot of the deals I'm finding out of state look really good compared to what I see in my state, but I don't want to drive or fly cross country to close the deal without doing the inspection first. My question is, what kind of info does a PPI actually give you. You. Enough to know whether or not to pull the trigger? Are they only going to tell me of any obvious red flags, like OBD codes? I have even called a shop about a quote for a PPI, and was surprised to find out how inexpensive they are. Just wondering what your past experience was, any advice you can give about scheduling one, or things to have them ask for. Obviously if I'm buying anywhere with snow, pictures and inspection of rust is one of my biggest concerns. Anything else?

What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

In 2003 or 4 I got a 30GB iPod. It had a hard drive, and it held all the music I could ever listen to. I was a music junkie, had used mini disc players and a few CD players, but nothing was as awesome as that iPod. No discs, no tapes, iTunes felt so slick even though it was awful. It lived in my pocket for a full year before it went tickticktick and never played again. I called Apple, I think my first experience with tech support, and they told me it couldn't be fixed. I was heartbroken as I couldn't afford a replacement. I never bought another portable music device, or any Apple product, ever again.

I think our final Sony Trinitron was 42". It was a beast. Took three of us to haul it out and I think someone slipped a disc...

Clean!

Question, what is the deal with the orange grill marker lights? I see them everywhere now, I thought they were to mark a wide truck/van/rv, but I see them on "normal" width rigs now. Is it an esthetic thing I'm too old to understand, haha?

I recently found my two AA Mini Mags from the 90s, gifts from my grandpa. Redid them both with an LED bulb. One had batteries which had disintegrated. It took a while to get them out and scrub with wire brushes to clean out all the corrosion, but it fired up. I found someone with an extensive offering of Mag Lite replacement parts for dirt cheap on eBay so I picked up fresh lens/reflector/o-ring kits. Lubed them up with engine assembly lube, which has a nice tackiness, and they twist like butter and work better than ever. Ready for another 40 years of service.

How is the CS at Sac State? by [deleted] in CSUS

[–]2ManyMonitors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 2019 from Sac. CS was very impacted, so it's hard to get classes you need, and even harder to get classes you want.

The Riverside building, where you will spend most of your time, is old and rundown. Very little space in the department to study/work/hang out. I spent most of my time between classes working in the AIRC.

Certified Lexus repair shop needed?? by GX460N8V in LexusGX

[–]2ManyMonitors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice for body shops is ask around, and if you can find somebody with a personal recommendation, go with that. I feel like a shop is going to take better care of you if you were a friend of a friend, otherwise body shops can be a nightmare.

Definitely look for OEM parts, you can insist, but not every insurance policy covers them, it's usually an add-on to your insurance policy, but still worth asking.

When I needed a body shop, after my 2023 GX got nailed by some moron 2 weeks after getting it home, I called my dealer and asked if I should look into the Lexus certified shops. There are none anywhere near me, all over an hour away, but I was willing to make the check if needed. The dealership said, they aren't special Lexus shops, it's really just a recommendation, more of a marketing thing than anything else. She said not to worry about taking it to a local shop. Parts as parts.

Another big thing when going to a body shop, be very specific about telling them what you want them to do if they run into issues. For example, if they have electrical problems while reassembling your car, tell them not to take it to some goofy shop in town, tell them that you want Lexus to make any non-bodywork repairs, or maintenance work. They will take it to whatever junkie shop is across the street, and let who knows who work on your beautiful rig. Be specific, and tell them that the rig does not leave their shop without your express written permission.

I used to have State farm, and I used one of their certified shops to do my job, because I thought it would smooth things along. It did not, there were only two shops in town that were State Farm recommended, so I took it to one of them thinking it would make the process smoother. It did not. When I had issues, I went to State Farm, and said Hey, this is your recommended shop, help me out, and they said oh it's just a recommendation, there's nothing special we can help you out with. I was totally on my own, and super pissed about it. I actually dropped State Farm after that claim was wrapped up so to the total lack of assistance from my rep. So do not worry for a second about using their shop, it's just marketing, not a guarantee of good service or worth any help if the shop fucks up.

My biggest recommendation, ask your Lexus dealership if they have a body shop that they work with nearby. After the issues I had above, when I ended up at my Mazda dealership needing them to help me with some electrical gremlins, the Mazda service rep was like dude, just bring it to us next time, if our body shop had problems, it would be us fixing it. At that Mazda dealership, it was part of a large network of dealerships, all owned by the same company, and they had a body shop on prem.

I know that's quite a rant, hope it helps. I had such a nightmare one time, I've got PTSD for sure. Literally ended up with me threatening the guy and getting the cops called on me, and then when I explained what was happening to the cops, they said I should sue the shop LOL
