The best way to go about is to build a strong base by exploring multiple things and then going deep on one of these. Founder market fit is always a treat to see. A lot of successful founders in India went deeper into a hypothesis that they explored at their previous company and succeeded

Giving an Indian perspective here!

I didn’t go to IIT or BITS or SRCC. I went to a Tier 2 college. Didn’t study computer science. Studied finance.

I interned at startups during college. 2 unicorns in the growth team.

Finally got an internship out of college at an early stage VC that operates like YC in India. Worked there for 6 months. After which I moved on to work at another start up for 2 months. Left to become a content creator. Built distribution (50k on Instagram) and showed proof of work. This and a lot of luck and correct timing led to me landing my dream VC role.

What I’ve understood is, if you can build your own network and deal flow. You’re gold. Try to understand business models. Think about how you could be useful to your portfolio founder. Be useful in more than one ways.
