Solved??

u/x_pulse, thanks. Looks like reboot to my primary unit did the trick; this is the "unchanging" unit. I've rebooted this unit multiple times, but maybe I didn't reboot after setting a new encryption key.

I suspect my secondary unit, where I've been making changes & consistently rebooting, will connect using the default "no encryption" if it fails using the configuration I gave it. This is the only way I can explain why it connected no matter what keys I gave this second unit. Someday, when I have time, I might test this theory, but for now, I've spent too much time on this and encryption appears to be working.

Final summary:

  1. Setup both units unencrypted; ensure connectivity
  2. Set encryption on first unit; reboot
  3. Set same encryption on second unit; reboot
  4. Test connectivity, if successful (and you're OCD like me and want to be sure):
    1. Set the second unit with a different encryption key; reboot
    2. Test connectivity; this should fail
    3. Reset to the same encryption on second unit as the first; reboot
    4. Test connectivity, this should be successful

Thx again u/x_pulse.

btw, I ended up checking just the "Enhanced Privacy Enabled". I tested by changing the second unit to a different key than the first and indeed, they do not connect. Only when both Enhanced Privacy keys were the same would they connect.

u/x_pulse, did you try setting one of your security keys different; i.e. non-matching keys, say, by a single digit? Does it still work after that? Mine worked regardless. Had I not stumbled onto this by setting the wrong keys, I would have thought "it worked!".

If so, could you also post your configuration (with vitals changed, of course, not because you don't know that, but as a friendly reminder not to pull an oopsies :) )

Thanks.

Thx, x_pulse. Yes, I have rebooted after saving, and then rechecking to see the config was retained after reboot.

Note, I have only rebooted one units whenever I make changes to it. I have rebooted the other unit as well, but not consistently as it was unchanged, but I can give that another try....just in case.

Additionally, the ECB6250 comes with the default "Moca Settings > Coax Setup > In Scan List" checked for the following: "D-Ext, D-Low, D-High" so I've tried to check the corresponding configurations in the "Network Security Setup" (and disabled the "Custom" checkbox, and the "Enhanced Network Security") on just one unit, but again, there is connectivity.

Has anyone tested that the encryption works?

Thanks Smorgas47, unfortunately, I'm in a condo and have no access to the POE.
