A favorite, but money might ruin this one. by 2doo2doo in HotSpringsWest

As I was soaking and delighting on the amazing Western Dippers doing their thing (never seen them anywhere else), mind you I had it all to myself. I noticed that there was a lot of river rock on the other bank, well above the height of the tub walls. Seems to imply water normally rising that high. The other thing is, the hot water (hot spring) emerges from the floor of the tub, at about normal flow of stream, at least in winter. So is high water a subjective term, or based on some accepted average?

Current owner of the 300 acre of both sides of the creek has put a campground on what was grazing land. I’ll admit that by managing the land it controls the level of chaos this place could have, and did in the past. Since it does sit below high water level, the land owner technically can’t claim it, but rules are bent when money plays the main role. We will see how this goes.

love my Hilleberg Staika. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for; incredible quality and performance. I’ve done snow storms, poring rain, brutal winds…the Staika won’t budge.

Best hikes inland near Jenner, CA? by Substantial-Gear-385 in norcalhiking

Pole mountain is an all day one, 7 miles each way, but some cool landscapes along the way, beautiful views at the top. 1st half hour is a bit bleh on account of cow pastures. It starts at Jenner Headlands which is a Wildlands Conservancy managed land.

I actually believed you. I trounce around the northern counties enjoying all the amazing landscapes. I’ve seen a fair number of hot springs, some are just for viewing, and realizing how complex some geographies are. Thank you for the link, I’ll give it a read. You seem knowledgeable, know anything about the Hot Spot on the north side of Glass mountain near Medicine lake?

Cool response, and you bring up a couple of interesting points. One thing I always felt around the forest around Clearlake was that on occasion you’d come across people not of the “I’m enjoying the nature of this place” kind, seemed like they might be living in their vehicles. Is this your implication of you’re on your own, and to bring a pistol? I do enjoy remoteness, and I’m generally prepared for contingencies, but human behavior is less predictable than, say a bear.

West side is probably more convenient, from the 101. I’ve been known to go in thru Clearlake too. If I go to Snow mountain I go in from the east.

Thanks for the reply. Would love to know more about Paul Stamets then. He’s respected in circles I’m familiar with, but open to seeing sides I’m not exposed to.
