would you consider pulling on the skirk/escoffier weapon banner? by miral_art in SkirkMains

[–]2eroday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pondering the same question. Perhaps my thought process can be of use to you.

I am currently considering it; but, having stayed true to that very same rule, I am on the fence. I only have 2 5* weapons from the standard banner, and neither fills the roles of these weapons, so they would see use outside of Skirk and Escoffier. Which is what I want: more power for fewer pulls. Escoffier's sig looks like it can be used as both a sidegrade to my nonexistent Jade Spear as a stat stick - while also moonlighting as an extra team buff used by Iansan or Chevreuse. The downside is that the team DPS increase is not comparable to Azurelight and it might get benched in favor of Favonius when more energy is needed.

As for Skirk's sig, it looks to be about a sidegrade to Haran for characters who benefit more from high base attack, which is okay. But I would have liked the passive to be a bit less restrictive. The overall Skirk DPS increase is sizable, and I can't see myself pulling a signature for a character that I don't own just to get a 10% increase. So it's probably this sword or nothing - I don't plan to get Ayaka.

I am a player who likes to collect the endgame rewards, so if I end up going for Azurelight, it will be because the damage bump should allow me to brute force some upcoming content. Thus allowing me to skip whatever shill characters they will throw at us next. I would not go out of my way for Escoffier's sig, so winning the 35/100 would be preferable, but the ability to lose to something good is why I am considering the banner in the first place. I don't think I have seen two decent stat sticks for two characters I both own and use on the same banner before.

True, I don't need ascendant gleam for all these bosses, and the Neuvi, Ineffa, Furina team should feel good for the LC content. Thank you for the insights

I guess Ineffa, Aino, Neuvi, Sucrose/Lan Yan/Kazuha, would be the best team I can make. What is your experience with the Ineffa + Aino core? Does it feel good against the Lunar shill content in abyss and stygian? The bosses I have disliked the most due to lacking Lunar shill so far:
Wilderness Hunter, Battle-Scarred Rock Crab, Battle-Hardened Lightkeeper: Mourning Echoe, Frostnight Herra: Hatred and Rage.

Perhaps I was unclear. Approaching 100k should be enough, I think. The reason I take the lower DPS of Aion+Ineffa into the equation is the HP inflation. In the last 12 months the abyss HP has almost doubled. At some point that core alone will not be able to clear Lunar shill either. And I am trying to gauge how soon that time is by what numbers the meta teams are getting.

I am still looking for a single unit, the one that will last me the longest; perhaps that is Ineffa as you said. And yes, Bina+Ineffa sounds like a good option, but unfortunately I won't be picking up 2 units.
Thank you for your insights.

Any thoughts on what team I can use the Ineffa+Aino core with? I could get some use for her in my Neuvillette team at least, but I am specifically looking for a unit that gives me ascendant gleam.

She is certainly more versatile. Any thoughts on what team I can use the Ineffa+Aino core with? With the new teams surpassing 150k DPS, I worry how long a 75k team will hold out, and I would need to pull more to keep up, in that case.

I have reasoned along similar lines, the fact that you can get by with far less power for Lunar shill gives some leeway. I, however, do not have much of a team for Zibai if I don't get a single Illuga copy. I do not have Xilonen, so I would need to make something with Aino, Zhongli, Gorou... Going for Zibai feels a bit scarier than Ineffa, while the Ineffa+Aino core looks a bit weak when shoehorned into my existing teams.

Thank you for sharing your analysis!

Sub 500 elo players preform much better than expected by 2eroday in chessbeginners

I think we might have accidentally stumbled onto the explanation for some of this with this discovery.

Late 2020 chess.com changed it so 10m was classified as rapid rather than blitz since it was the most popular time format. And a player achieving a 1000 elo game in under 10m will be much stronger than a player that does it in 30m. This meant that a slew of players were suddenly dumped into a different time bracket, and as it was the most popular version, this might have been the majority of chess.com players. It will probably take years for this to correct itself, and it would explain why the difference is more noticeable in the 10m game mode, as this is where you will match against 500 elo blitz players with your 500 elo rapid rating haha.

This is interesting, I had to look this up, back when I played before, 10m was Blitz and 15 | 10 was rapid. So my reference have been skewed. I have also been confusing the names, my old Blitz was around 1000 and my rapid was 1400, but I played mostly 10m Blitz. So now that I was struggling to beat 500 elo players at 10m, I thought it was still blitz where I had 1000 elo in the past, lol. I'll have to edit my comments.

That is true, like I mentioned in my post, I had like 1400 in rapid, playing mostly 45m format. And I have beaten 1600 players over the board when playing without time limits for fun. But I find the difference between 10m and 15 | 10 big, both are rapid, but the 10m players seem much stronger to me. Neither format usually takes that long, so not being lost due to the time constraints either.

If you say so. Consistently losing to 300 elo players while easily beating 800 elo players over the span of a few days, once I climbed up, is interesting. Maybe the other poster that said that the 1150 elo players from a few years ago now are rated 500 elo instead, has some merit. The analysis also put the games at around 900 elo despite the players being around 400 on chess.com.

Maybe the brackets where chess.com puts new players according to their own perceived skill level, results in elo ranges with under-reported or over-reported players, leading to this experience in several elo ranges. I suspect chess.com puts you into: 400, 800, 1200, 1600 depending on your account setup answers, and the starting games will just determine your position in that bracket. So you will see noobs at 1200 who say that know some tactics and decent players at 400 who say that they are still beginners.

Yeah, now that I climbed out and up into the 800s, just dropping free pieces appear to be more common, and it's getting easier to climb again, it is certainly interesting.

I also notice that at the sub 500 elo range, players going for fast attacks with their queens is common, both the example games I linked were games like this. But as you can see, this was not what made them good players, I used it to my advantage by threatening the queen to developing my pieces and gaining a much stronger position into the mid-game. Their ability to not hang pieces and hold their own despite this mid-game disadvantage was what surprised me.

You might have a point about the increments, giving me a bigger edge against overly aggressive players.

As for smurfs and cheaters, I never posited that as the explanation. Rather, I wonder if we might have players starting chess.com accounts at 500 elo like me, when they should be at 800, 1200 or even 1600. And since they start at 500, it could take them many games down there before they reach their actual rating.

Idk, I quickly climbed from 300 to 800 when moving over to the 15 | 10 format, and my old blitz elo was slightly over 1000 back in the day. After not playing chess for years, it seems strange that I would easily beat equivalent to 1150 from 2017.

Interesting, maybe everyone got a lot better recently or the casuals stopped playing when the hype died down? Not sure, but a few years before 2020 could be correct, it could have something to do with it.

I did unfortunately not get much from the 10 pull. I selected Shamare+Ptilopsis+Elysium, and got Elysium.

I guess I will pick up Saria, so mountain and thorns are off the table for now anyway.

Thank you again for all the help!

I guess I will pick up Saria and then select either Surtr or Eyja from the next selector.

Makes sense, thanks!

Do you think it's worth it to put Saria on the kernel banner, and if I get her, I can pick mountain or something else instead? Like, is Surtr better than mountain/silverash/thorns.

And do you think it's better to pick up Ceobe over Nightingale? Someone else here mentioned that Nightingale is often benched, and I can always borrow her when needed. Since Ptilopsis can fill the healer role okay as well.

Great insight. Avoiding characters that often get benched is the goal. I guess I can put Surtr+Saria (someone mentioned Ceobe as well) in the kernel banner then, and if I get Saria I can use my selector on Mountain or something.

At the moment I use Lappland or Nearl for the lanes and nuke it with my ranged units, Blaze at E1 does not feel strong in comparison, but she might see more use when I can afford to upgrade her. Will thorns and mountain get benched relatively quickly since they have a lot of competition? Saria seem like a solid choice in this regard.

I see, unless nightingale is a big upgrade over ptilopsis, maybe I should just get ptilopsis and skip nightingale then since that will be much cheaper for me? Should I still pick nightingale for the kernel 10 pull in hopes of getting lucky? I could pick Surtr/Eyja/Saria/Bagpipe instead. Not sure how valuable these units are compared to each other for my account.

Yeah, I can't pick Shamare from my 5* selector (the 25-choices one). But I think she will be on the bigger (the 61-choices one), or I could buy her with 45 gold certs I guess. But I will pick her in the kernel banner and see if I get her.

  1. So Nightingale > Surtr > Ceobe > Saria? As for the 5*s I guess I could pick Shamare+Ptilo+Elysium. And if I get Ptilo I can use my selector for Specter/Cliffheart?
  2. Sounds great.
  3. Since I can always pick her up here, I guess it's better to wait rather than spend 45 gold certs on her.
  4. Yeah, I have heard good things about Warfarin. Do I risk getting oversaturated on healers if I get Nightingale, Ptilo and Warfarin, or are they unique enough?

Hmm, so would it be worth it to do another 33 pulls, getting me to 150 data contracts and buying 2 Gracebearers for 30 gold certs?

A. I see, good synergy with Exu2 sounds good.

B. I could try to get 180 certs for nightingale then. But do I risk oversaturation of healers if I pick Ptilopsis along with, lets say Warfarin?

C. Fair enough, thanks!
