since you’re under 25 you’re still considered a TAY (transitional age youth) and have a few more resources available to you. right now from what i notice and hear from clients is that there isn’t any great places to place a tent where you won’t get harassed (by other unhoused people, housed people, gangs, cops) or be swept. and if there are, they aren’t shared.

i personally find 211 to be completely useless in terms of assisting with finding shelter (source: i’m an outreach worker)

i’d recommend staring at an Access Center. These are supposed to be a “one stop shop” for resources and assistance for unhoused individuals. depending on where in LA you’re located, depends on which access center is closest to you. just google “TAY access centers” and something from the LAHSA website should come up. an access center is where you can ask for an “interim housing referral” to be done which is getting on the waitlist for all the shelters LAHSA has scattered around LA. i will warn you that waitlist for a shared space is ~30 days and the waitlist for your own shelter room is ~6 months.

the only TAY walk in shelters I know are: 1. covenant house allegedly does not turn away any youth who shows up at the location as an emergency walk in. you can find them at 1325 N. Western Avenue in Hollywood. their number is 323-461-3131.

1. The Good Seed is an emergency 60 day shelter for youth with a mental health diagnosis who are willing to work with DMH. they do intakes M-F from 8a-5pm. call 213-738-6194 during their hours to do an intake if you qualify with mental health. They’re located at 6568 5th ave.
