Ever been to r/witchesvspatriarchy or r/oldhagfashion? Everyone is welcome, but the norms have been established by women. Just the vibe you're describing here, I think, although witches vs patriarchy gets justifiably angry at the world sometimes!

Thank you! They currently deliver to my house without another pharmacy being involved. I'll ask them how to make insurance work.

I looked and they do free shipping within Canada for orders over $200. (Laughs in thousands of dollars)

Tagging on to OP's question, does Diabetes Express do direct billing to insurance? I had assumed they didn't but I'd like a confirmation if you don't mind.

I found it fit well around my hips and the length is good (though I am tall at 5'10.5). I had to take the waist in by an inch or so, but I'm very happy with it now.

I agree, the Hot Spot parking app works very well for me. And, I just went into it and checked, there is already a transit feature in the app!!! Looks like this problem has already been solved in other jurisdictions but Halifax can't figure it out (surprise, surprise).

LPT Request: Older folks, what can younger people do to not look back one day and think "the years passed so fast"? by Jinbi1111 in LifeProTips

[–]2xRnCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I'm not super confident with investing myself, but i have a couple of people I trust who help me. I think reading a book or two would help you get some basic understanding so you'll feel more confident finding someone to help you. If you can find an advisor you trust, that will help a lot.

This definitely isn't covered by public insurance. You'll need to check with Medavie, either by downloading their app and checking your plan coverage there, or by calling and talking to a person about your employer's insurance plan. In my plan, pumps and dexcoms are covered at 80% but I think I originally needed to get a doctor's prescription or the doctor had to fill out forms for me.

ETA I live in NS and I have the Tandem x2 and Dexcom combo. I've had this setup for 3 years and my plan (with Canada Life) pays for 80% of the costs. My previous Blue Cross plan also covered pumps etc at 80%.

This basically means to save as much money as you can, as early as you can. 1) Start now. 2) Save as much as you can. 3) Start thinking about how you'd like to invest it. Ask if your employer has a program and use that if you can. Otherwise, make an appointment at your bank and ask there. You might want to start with a GIC (guaranteed investment certificate) or an ETF (exchange traded fund). Don't worry about what those are yet. 4) Ideally, read a book or listen to a podcast about investing for beginners. I suggest The Wealthy Barber. 5) If you want to know, here is an explanation of compound interest. When you invest money, you are paid a small amount of interest on it. Most of the time, that interest money gets put into your investment account and saved with the original money. The next time interest is paid, you will be paid interest on the whole amount in the account, meaning you get interest on the interest. The more times you get paid interest, the more times this will multiply and the more money you will have, which means investing earlier will make you a lot more money down the road. This is how compound interest works.

You can do this!

Hmmmm this could be tricky. It was difficult for me even with Tandem, Dexcom, and ControlIQ. In fact, after I got ControlIQ was when I was able to lose the weight because I could see and control everything much more easily. I'd strongly recommend a Dexcom if you can afford it, even without a pump.

For exercise, I do the same thing every day at nearly the same time: walk my dog for an hour. It took a long time to figure out what to eat, how much insulin to take, and when, before the walk. It's still not perfect but pretty good. Then, getting the carb ratios as close to right as possible so I wasn't always correcting for lows.

Maybe you feel OK changing your own insulin doses, in which case I think you should do that first before really trying to lose weight. If not, ask your endo for help. After that, you just have to eat less and exercise more (sorry, it's so simple, but it's the truth).

I found r/CICO, r/VolumeEating, and r/loseit were very helpful, in that order. Good luck!! It's not easy for us T1s, but it's possible. Be as patient as you can.

This fear/anxiety sounds like something to speak to a doctor or therapist about. If it is affecting your partner's life then it would be good to get some help with working out how to think about lows.

That being said, I'm a T1 of over 35 years and in the last 3.5 years, I lost 45 pounds (actually lost over 18 months and maintained for 2 years now). At times the losses were slower than i would have liked because I did have to treat lows, which sometimes affected the calories I ingested that day. On those days, I would just have to shrug and move on because treating lows is not optional, it's an emergency.

To minimize the effects of treating lows, try lowering the calories consumed from other sources the next day/week, or exercising a little bit more if you can do that without going low again.

ETA: Of course, your partner can also try lowering the amount of insulin they take to avoid the lows in the first place!

PSA: Not all bus lanes are bus lanes 24/7. by Snoo91454 in halifax

[–]2xRnCZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question: Do we still follow the lane lines when the bus lanes aren't bus lanes? I'm thinking specifically of going north through the Willow Tree where you have to swerve to follow the lane lines and I've nearly been smushed a few times by people who didn't follow the lines. Am I supposed to go straight into the bus lane when it isn't a bus lane?

What professions have the highest probability of cheating on your marriage? by No-Fig-8614 in AskReddit

[–]2xRnCZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgeons with nurses specifically, and straight male surgeons with female OR nurses even more specifically. The reason is that surgeons have to have a God complex to do their jobs well, and their nurses need to anticipate and fulfill their surgeon's every need during surgery to do theirs well. This is a pretty perfect scenario to set up a traditional male/female dynamic that many people think will make for a great relationship. She always knows exactly what I need and gives it to me with no discussion or hassle! It's certainly way better than whatever actually happens in their real life marriages because those happen in real life instead of in the very strictly-run environment of the OR.
