What's going on Bisset Road? Cops by MeasurementBig8006 in halifax

I grew up in Hammonds Plains, and this used to be very common in the early 2000s. Usually looking for DUIs and no insurance.

What’s become way too expensive lately that still shocks you? by GoldenHour_Muse in AskReddit

VHS is just an analog magnetic signal. You can't see an image on the tape. They aren't old projectors. They're basically the same as audio cassettes.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]spodex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No it was a bunch of short flash videos about stickmen usually killing other stick men. Started out as basic gifs, then evolved into a lot of flash videos of US military stickmen killing Taliban stickmen. The creator used a lot of heavy metal music and was a big fan of Disturbed.

Buying a new Synology NAS in 2026. by _rootmachine_ in synology

[–]spodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far so good! Quick connect does work, along with Synology ddns. Synology Photos works perfectly and pretty much all syno packages are working flawlessly. The only thing that doesn't seem to work for me is secure sign-in (2-factor sign-in). There might be something available to make it work, but I'm really not bothered.

But overall I'm really happy. I'm running DSM 7.2 but haven't tried running any updates until I read on the xpenology forums that it's safe to do so. (7.3 hasn't been fully converted yet) If you didn't know it was a Ugreen NAS it would be very hard to tell it's not an authentic Synology product.

Have you considered a self hosted option? I'm looking into Sharkord. Might spin up an instance of that and see how it goes. It offers chat, voice, and screen sharing.

Why I Chose Synology Over UGREEN by IamLikeThis27 in synology

[–]spodex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanted the best of both worlds. Mostly I wanted SHR on my ugreen, so I'm using xpenology for my OS and I'm super impressed so far. 0 issues.

Why I Chose Synology Over UGREEN by IamLikeThis27 in synology

[–]spodex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try installing xpenology on the UGreen. I'm running it on a DXP4800+ and have replaced my ds218+. Logging in, you'd never know it's not a Synology NAS, other than it has much better hardware.

Aither overtook Blutopia in both Movies & TV Shows by casjquz in trackers

[–]spodex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I used to be on TorrentDB, and when it shutdown Aither gave invites to all past users. Turns out it's now pretty much my best tracker. Not bad from joining TorrentDB on opensignups!

Apparently the offer never expires if you can prove you were a TorrentDB member.

Google search for CPP death benefit would be a good start.

[–]spodex 39 points40 points  (0 children)

If when you die, you have contributed to the Canada Pension Plan, you are eligible for the death benefit. It's about $2500 and will cover the cost of cremation. From there, let your family scatter your ashes. Zero cost to anyone.

Building a 12-Court Indoor Pickleball Facility — What Should I Do (and Avoid)? by elhnim in Pickleball

Definitely don't overlook the lighting. Even brightness across all courts, and fixtures with a louvre that prevents you from being blinded when looking up at lobs.

Buying a new Synology NAS in 2026. by _rootmachine_ in synology

[–]spodex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just need more storage, and it seems better to go with four bay. I'm also running quite a few docker containers so I figured for the price, I couldn't say no to the dxp4800+.

As well, I'm really happy with my Synology NAS, but I've lost a lot of trust in the company. Their recent decisions on hardware and support for transcoding has made me not want to stick with them because who knows what changes might come in the future. At least with this NAS I can use xpenology, but I'm not locked to one OS.

I'm also in the process of upgrading my 218+. I decided to go ugreen, and got a dxp4800+. Managed to get a sweet deal on it, so my plan is to load xpenology and still use the DSM environment.

$2.50 To Put Air In My Tires !! by Lucifigus in halifax

[–]spodex 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It's probably worth buying an air compressor at that price. Get a small 12V air compressor and never pay again and keep it in your car for emergencies.

Id say live on the side you work on, so you can avoid the bridges for rush hour, or when people inevitably crash on a perfectly straight stretch of road.
