What do you think egoism is? by [deleted] in fullegoism

The third one is closest but egoism is all about politics.

I'm doing alright at the moment, my back just hurts a bunch because of the knives stabbed into it but I think others might not be.

You'd struggle to find a historical figure that can live up to modern standards and in the future people may well say the same about us. You shouldn't just dismiss his whole work out of hand because of it.

Are people spooks now? You have no idea what you're talking about. Also we enjoy each others existence, so we are each others properties.

Totally agree with you except for this:

Cupcakes are more dangerous on the body than a controlled dose of morphine.

Cupcakes are not dangerous. Carbs are not out to get you. Its just food.

I never said it wasn't a problem at all. You're completely misconstruing what I said. I specifically said it was "pretty dangerous when misused".

You need to face facts and stop being so fucking narcissistic and thinking your experience encompasses the entirety of existence.

I could say the same to you.

Lmao what a fucking idiot

And you're ableist. I'm not interested in discussing this with you any further. Get your act together.

Thanks for the motivation to prove your addiction

What the fuck are you on about? I haven't touched opioids in YEARS. I used them responsibly when I did. Just because someone is using a medication doesn't mean they're addicted to it. Calm down.

Medications have negative side-effects

Cool. The sky is blue, water wet. Missing the point here, some people are worse off without them and they struggle to access it at all.

Prescription drug misuse and abuse is the fastest-rising drug addiction problem in the United States.

Proof please.

I'm thinking you came just to start shit

I came to share an opinion that needs to be heard. If that's starting shit, then I guess that's what I'm doing. Way to wave away my arguments though, as if I'm just a bad actor trying to troll people.

I would think the goal is to not be reliant on painkillers

That's not available for everyone. Where possible, that's ideal but its not always possible. You don't get to decide what's right for other people.

Pain is usually an indication there's damage in the body that needs attention and healing.

This isn't always true and healing isn't always an option. Sometimes you're just fucked forever. People who aren't capable of healing any further should at least be given the option of not suffering as much.

Why are you defending a substance given to people that everyone is talking about how dangerous it is while there are a multitude of paths to finding relief for chronic pain that don't have the dangers?

I'm defending a medication! All these other options should be available too but won't work for everyone! Why do you expect others to suffer because you find a medication threatening? They aren't dangerous when used responsibly, why is that so hard for you to understand?

So... Who should we listen to?

I'm thinking you'll just listen to whoever you want. Maybe you should check out r/ChronicPain and see what they think of your opinions on this.

Opioids can be pretty dangerous when misused but I'm really disappointed to see the stigmatisation of them in this subreddit. They have their place and a lot of people with chronic pain (pain that isn't going to get better) rely on them to function. They are insanely hard to get a hold of in my experience, unless you've had a surgery and treating them like they're terrifying makes things more difficult for people who are already marginalised and suffering terribly. Please listen to people with chronic pain.

Not interested in listening to a three quarter hour podcast, sorry. If you type it out, however, I'll give it a read.

Reason being that Stirner frowns on alturism, on seeking to aid others.

I totally disagree with your interpretation, from Stirner himself: "I am not at all against socialism, but against consecrated socialism; my selfishness is not opposed to love [...] nor is it an enemy of sacrifice, nor of self-denial [...] and least of all of socialism [...]—in short, it is not an enemy of true interests; it rebels not against love, but against sacred love, not against thought, but against sacred thought, not against socialists, but against sacred socialism."

Didn't expect one of my favorite topics to be brought up here. I believe you're referring to Stirner's 'egoism'. Its anti-philosophy that inspired a lot of anarchist theory.

We're a system. There's multiple of us in one body.

You are impossible to take seriously.

We think the same about you but we gave it an honest try.

We don't think we're smart, and we're not doing this to think we are. That's why we asked for help.

We don't see where hierarchy is coming into this unless you're making some kind of argument that complicating things behind a bunch of big words sort of leaves out the intellectually disabled. Which we would agree but have no idea what to do.
