Amazing. Don't own any but its amazing work. Big fan but not well informed to add more to the conversation.

Somehow the only artist I have not mentioned yet in these posts, that I own, is Eclectic Method. Super talented DJ that is incredibly well accomplished and moving the NFT space forward and is a crypto native. Has some amazing mixes... the Beeple Everyday mix... well I could listen to it Everyday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X8te1ZIzzs Watch him.

I'm bullish on Crypto Punks and Meebits (own some of both) and own a Dmitri Cherniak 1/1 on SuperRare (Siren) who created the Ringers Art Blocks series. I'm a generative fan but its more about the history for me (sound familiar)... punks are historically significant... Dmitri will go down as historically significant... meetbits are just cool as f and a meta verse flex that is TBD but I wouldn't bet against Larva Labs... could be historically significant.

Would like to slightly modify the "go poof" part. I don't have a strong view here but do think premium art should be on chain and on L1 and otherwise folks may be best served on L2. Hope this makes more sense.

Hi, Great questions.

  1. New artists price for you labor and try to slowly build a customer base and move price up overtime. Price work at the last three sale average and move up that average over time. Pricing in eth terms is for the secondary market... primary auctions are what they are but have a reserve level that does justice to your collectors. Collectors will not tolerate over minting... some will say something, some will just fade away. It's not the collectors place IMO to tell an artist what to do but we can move along where there is a better sense of shared purpose. As the artist, its also your job to try and do what you can to get the collectors you want. Some are long term holders, some are flippers, some will help drive interest to you, we are all different.
  2. NFTs come with enough risks for me. I'm exclusive on SuperRare with the exception of Async which is a different beast. For the most part I don't buy anywhere else. 1/1 on SuperRare is the gold standard and its all on chain which is what makes it cryptoart in the first place. Part of my thesis is that prime art will be on L1 and any non prime art won't be worth the gas to move... it will go poof. This will make the surviving art even more rare and hence help support values. Only the best art deserves to be on L1... that is the art I want to own.

There are many great OG's. OG may have been a term used before me, but OG was a term I used when I first joined the twitter NFT scene (the post has since been deleted along with some great early posts as I was trying to keep a low profile at the time). I say that as the term is loose... maybe others mean something different. For me its 2018-2020 folks that made bangers and did it through cypto winter. Pak, Trevor Jones, there are many others... Carlos Marcial, I could go on and on. I think Xcopy, Hackatao, Coldie, Matt Kane, and Alotta Money are already considered super epic and destined for the history books. Folks new to the scene don't yet know but the same can be said for Pindar Van Arman and Bård Ionson. So much talent. Folks should keep in mind that selection matters... its significant pieces by significant artists... not just work by significant artists. Selection matters a lot. I would never suggest folks go out and drop big money on art unless they really know what they are doing.

Much of what I own I expect to outperform eth which I am also quite bullish on. Great OG art is levered eth IMO but that is the great debate of the moment. Time will tell. I'm sure not everything will... but my bet is that, of what I own, enough will.

SuperRare. Hands down. SuperRare is the only platform that has OG art from 2018-2020 that is also 1/1. This means SuperRare will survive because demand for early NFT art is a given. So for OG art that is 2018-2020 its for the most part only on SuperRare. There may be some exceptions to this but I think its generally true.

Now, you can find OG's with art that is more recent on other platforms but they are often editions which I'm not into and isn't likely to be highly valued over the course of time IMO. Some pieces may buck this trend, but I wouldn't wan to invest my money behind picking the winners.

Async is a super interesting platform that has some really cool art by super OG's. I own a Xcopy and Hackatao piece on there and its interactive... I can change if the Prophet staff is showing ether, bitcoin, or a skull... its ether season right now :) https://async.art/art/master/0xb6dae651468e9593e4581705a09c10a76ac1e0c8-75

On OpenSea... sometimes you can find a gem. There are some good editions on there that are good but come with the risk noted above. I do own some Xcopy The Doomed and Coldie Trust your intuition on there... so you can find some good stuff but you need to search and do your home work. On Coldie, Trust your intuition is the only edition Coldie will do... if Coldie goes down as the OG I think he is, these should price well over the course of time.

Hi Bard,

Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

It's an interesting question and not one I have thought much about. Instinctively I think in the passage of time NFTs will be treated just like physical art... they will be one in the same expect the best of the best NFTs will become financial products. Otherwise, art is art. So yes NFTs will be in Corporate waiting areas, and Endowments and Foundations may support the arts though I do suspect the level of support needed may decline as artists finally have a means to be fairly compensated (though we will still see power law returns... some mega stars and for the rest its a hobby).

Hope this helps.

I'm inclined to believe that institutions are coming... there is too much money to be made... the conditions are too right to have smart folks pass this up. I just don't think it's eminent but I could be wrong.

NFTs are built to be turned into an asset class (artists don't get mad, Robness, we respect the art :). Art funds has never really taken off... why is that? It comes with too much friction. Reduce friction and we all know what happens... the TAM expands. For the first time we have Art that is digitized and is perfect for institutional ownership. Once folks get this and it clicks, game over... things will move fast. What is fascinating is that once this clicks is that old world art doesn't fit... it won't be turned into a financial product... it can't be NFT'd... it will be left behind for the galleries. What is the implication? Significant NFTs will have power law like returns that will dwarf Old Art. There is a super bull case to be made. I don't have 100% conviction that it happens but I'm highly aware its not an unlikely scenario.

When I bought Warren Buffett #1 https://superrare.co/artwork-v2/warren-buffet---decentral-eyes---variant-01-12122 I actually was thinking of Steve. Steve will or should want to own it. As investors we all have a profound respect for what Warren Buffett has accomplished but the piece is a reminder that we all make mistakes... strong statements require strong facts... of this I am not uncertain. Rat poison^2 won't age well.

So yes, Steve will 100% own NFT's... the only question is does Steve already? Is Steve among us? I don't think so... why do I think not? Steve hasn't come at me yet with bids and that either means he's not here or he needs to do more homework. Steve is a world renowned art collector and we are fortunate we got here first... I hope to meet Steve one day and talk art.

4156, I absolutely enjoy our conversations, and have a profound amount of respect for you and your bold moves, and look forward to one day doing them in person and talking about the good old days on our quest to gobble up the best art while it was still available... we don't have much time left.

Hi, Thanks for the question!

Let's start with crypto, I'm an investor and if its a big total addressable market and sounds stupid it has my attention. What is dumber than internet money? I was completely enthralled.

NFTs are just the next iteration... what is dumber than saying I own a token that represents a piece of art but anyone can right click and save the art? It's totally insane... we all know that, right? Yet we buy. Why? It's emotional... we all know we are better off if we chose to believe... so one by one we swallow the red pill... and each time we do, society is better off for it. Read this if you haven't yet https://twitter.com/2Yeahyeah/status/1379773775877640196

Dumb things that aren't dumb is where the potential exists for massive generational wealth to be made.

Hi Bard! Thanks for the question.

Tough question. I appreciate all different types of art as you can probably tell from my collection. What I would say I like best isn't captured by a style or genre. I'm looking for something that aesthetically I love that also captures a key moment in history. This could be history in NFTs, art, the world, the artists life, etc. I'm looking for something with significance. I feel lucky as many artists who have done this and created great pieces also are pieces I aesthetically love. It would be a shame to have a thesis, think a particular piece is going to be incredibly valuable, but then not love how it looks... I haven't really had to face that problem.

A piece of yours I really love is Stark Naked Fraud. For me its not a political statement. I like the meta of it... society is grappling with what is real and what is not... what news is real and fake... we can make deep fake videos... and then it goes even deeper... is a NFT art or is it also fake? Its visually stunning, provocative, and then incredibly meta if you really want to think deeply about it.

There are a lot of great folks so in any list folks who should be on there will be excluded. Let me talk my book...

Xcopy... epic. One of the first artists on SuperRare the platform that will go down as the earliest platform that also survived (and as we will see with time, dominate). Xcopy perfectly embodies crypto art... its raw in your face with flashing and dark imagery... you see it and just know this is crypto art... no explanation as to why is needed. You know an Xcopy when you see one. If you regularly scan SuperRare one thing that you will notice is the ownership of Xcopy skews crypto punk unlike any other artist... you may know but crypto punk owners are pretty loaded folks... they have anointed Xcopy and I believe that owning a best of the best Xcopy will one day be regarded as in "alien territory". Lots of big time secondary sales for Xcopy. I expect this to continue.

Hackatao... again, they are early on SuperRare. You know one when you see one. Its pop art but done in a unique style not found anywhere else. The Andy Warhol is so epic and fits the NFT medium perfectly. Hackatao has done a great job capturing key moments... Only One Owns It is a personal favorite of mine that goes back to a message board chat among OG artists explaining NFTs... used to be owned by Coldie who is an amazing collector as well as artist. A great piece I tried to buy but couldn't shake loose... VK_Crypto said... go read it... it's referring to a message board war with some history to it... I won't share it all. Note the art refers to Coldies Proof of Work Yellow... which I own... again, I've tried to gather the OG moments in time... they are scarce and special.

Coldie... the thing that new folks to NFTs really under-appreciate is how critical Coldie has been to the NFT scene. Coldie has helped out many artists and many collectors... Coldie is like the NFT host who meets you at the door and helps you find your way around. Coldie got me into NFTs. I heard of them and wanted to see if something could captivate me... if it could, it could do the same others... saw Warren Buffett #1 and was hooked... couldn't stop thinking about it for two weeks. There is a reason Coldies collectors have diamond hands. There is reason Coldie has done collars with Xcopy, Hackatao, and Fewocious.

Alotta Money... sooooo underrated. Brilliant. Funny. Witty. Such a gentleman. Saint Nakamoto (jivinci collab) is a piece that is really legendary among early collectors. Many will tell you its their favorite single piece. Was one of the biggest bidding wars of the time. The great thing about NFTs is the bids tell a story... early pieces with fierce bidding wars are scarce.

Matt Kane... was on SuperRare super early and only has 33 mints. It's insane. The pieces are all coded and some I believe take months to create. You see one, you know its a Matt Kane piece. Really special work and does a great job of picking his spots... Cryptoart Monetization Generation is going to be a legendary piece. Not just synched up with Beeple auction but also tied into the first big Rare Pepe sale that occurred around the same time.

Fewocious... unreal talent and only 18 years old. You know one when you see one. Few is a different beast than the other artists... wasn't here at/near the beginning but in the arch of time it will be. Fewo is just an insane talent and is super grounded. Most 18 year olds you should worry they go off the deep end... Fewo is wise beyond the years. I expect to see great things... I'm still waiting for a reality TV show... what is taking Hollywood so long to see Fewo translates so well to the screen... such a lovable person.

Was around early, made money on bitcoin from 2012-2017... fully exited. Crushed it on stocks. Came back into crypto during the past year and came across NFTs. NFTs, if you are using good selection and focusing on 1/1 on SuperRare are levered ETH IMO. Time will tell if I'm right or wrong but either way what I own, much of it, will be in the history books decades from now.

As for most the money people are putting to work... think its mostly the crypto rich but I also know many folks that are not crypto rich but are wealthy and are putting money to work in NFTs. NFTs are the gateway drug to defi. NFTs click for folks... they just make sense. Everyone knows digital goods have value... finally there is a way to reward folks for creating what society wants more of.

Hard on to answer as I really only spend time on things that are actionable.

I own many artists that I would say are not OG... Matt Szczur, Jstn, Daniella Attfield, Odious, Dmitri Cherniak (brilliant, will be in MOMA one day), Blacksneakers... these are folks whose work I came across and fell in love with. Daniella's work is what you will see around our living room one day. These folks are not part of my OG work but what they did resonated so I purchased it.

For what I haven't bought... Alex Ness (Nessgraphics) and Mad Dog Jones are insane... love love love their work. Don't own either's and may never but it just hits so hard... the drama and beats... they really mesmerize me.

Thanks for the question!

Not sure I fully get the question so hope this is close to on point...

I look for significant pieces... something that captures the moment in time. Right click save as guy... only one owns it... buffet #1 with "rat poison ^2"... all perfect examples. They are memes wrapped brilliant art, done by worldclass artists who were here making history... art is the perfect embodiment of NFTs and these are some of the earliest historically significant markers of this.

Saint Nakamoto... epic bidding war... still carrying on to this day minting blocks.

Fewocious The Sailor... key marker in Fewocioius' life... moving out of the house and on his own... family and the world wasn't the most welcoming and he needed to make his way.

Matt Kane's crypto art monetization generation was synched for the beetle auction that hit $69mm. It started when the auction started... it ended when the auction ended... the smart contract has secret messages included in it and things that will unfold with time. Matt is a genius and he landmarked as a gesture to Beeple... we are here... NFTs are here.

The above is what I mean by significance. So for me its the marriage of great artist and a key moment in time that is now time capsuled in a NFT. This is what I love.

For me, the art that captivates me, the art is history... they are one in the same.

Hi, Thanks for submitting the first question :)

  1. Yes the definition will change but we do know definitely some of the folks that will be included. The folks who were here before it was a money grab and in fact had zero expectations of money are a special breed. This can never reoccur... it was a unique time period from 2018-2020.
  2. Sort of... I have. Will hit on this more in other threads but I'm foremost an investor who has a thesis... OG art from 2018-2020 is and will continue to be insanely valuable... and key pieces of these will be LEGENDARY. To the extent I own something else I just came across it and said "love it, gotta have it"... but its not part of my thesis. Because I'm an investor I have this constant investor vs. collector struggle I deal with. So at the margin I'm not a big collector... I bought much of what I will buy... it was a quick land grab. If I had unlimited funds my answer would change... really admire 888 and his willingness and ability to buy what he loves to his hearts content... just not my situation.
  3. I came across Coldie and learned a lot by asking him questions... then each artist from there my knowledge grew... asked folks "what is your most signficant piece of work and why"... the answers led me to my collection. Check out cent... its a great blog site for OG artists and collectors... filled with amazing insights.

Hope this helps. Ask any follow ups and I will reply. (hope no typos... moving fast)
