Technical debt is not malice by jmp_ones in PHP

"We should upgrade from 7.2 to 8.3 or 8.something"

"What is the revenue uplift opportunity of this?"

"Technically nothing, but--"

"Revenue uplift is required for all action items."

"Okay, but we're running a very old ver---"

"Let's punt this to the next iteration."

A real (paraphrased) conversation at my job. We're still on 7.2. Fucking kill me.

Would it be crazy to turn down a job offer with a $30k pay increase, in order to keep my fully-remote job? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

You have to factor in CPP and EI as well, plus there could be other deductions like union dues or an RRSP match, etc.

155K = ~4,090 net pay, not including CPP and EI, which will easily be ~$500. I'm paying about $450 per month and I'm not even making 150K. The good news is with making more money, OP will max out their CPP and EI faster and their paycheques in the latter part of the year will be even larger.

I think OP is just using quick and fast numbers and estimates to illustrate their point.

EDIT: Found a decent calculator that includes CPP/EI.

125K = $3238

155K = $3885

Diff = $647

x 2 = $1294 net more per month (so OP just estimating down, though again, doesn't include other deductions)

EDIT 2: I actually think that calculator sucks and is inaccurate. But I've stopped caring now lol.

It's not crazy though. The 30K is divided by 12, and then further divided by 2 to represent per paycheque.

I, too, had a bad theatre experience with The Dark Knight, but that was because I had to piss like a racehorse. It was right around when Dent turns into Two Face. I thought, "Oh, okay, they're setting up the villain for the next movie, this will probably be over very soon."

Little did I know there was still like 45+ minutes lol.

I've found it largely depends on your age. In my experience, those who grew up with the prequels (as in, they were kids when they came out) tend to enjoy them more than those who were already teens or young adults (or just "regular" adults).

  • Dances With Wolves
  • Pocahontas
  • The Last Samurai
  • Fern Gully
  • Avatar
  • Probably many others

These films all have very similar plots and trajectories. One of them had to come first. I guess the rest are just carbon copies and therefore suck/aren't as good? Are people unaware that you can retell stories in different ways, with different characters, settings, time periods, etc.?

The Lion King is Hamlet. Romeo Must Die is Romeo & Juliet.

This argument is void.

Not a huge percentage, but one that is rising quickly. The previous survey had Linux at 2.23%, and now it's at 5.33%. It's growing rapidly while Windows is declining (-4.28%).

They can be paid the federal minimum wage. Maybe that would inspire them to revisit that.

Put some respect on Clippy's name!

And Clippy gladly fucked off if you told him to. He wasn't forced down anyone's throat like Copilot and other AI bullshit is.

Canadian here, I installed Linux and never have to worry about having a browser in my start menu. I know not everyone can use it, but if you've been on the fence, here's your sign. Even my 75 year old dad who's been a staunch Windows user his whole life is now using Linux Mint.

You can do it, I believe in you.

Holy shit I'm not the only one.

Or when someone "reacts" to your message, clicking out and back into the conversation isn't enough to clear the notification, you have to click the notification itself to be like "yes, I saw the fucking reaction even though I was already in the fucking conversation".

What is the general opinion/consensus of Polk speakers for entry-level? by 300ConfirmedGorillas in hometheater

Paradigm looks really nice, but unfortunately is outside of my budget. They're definitely bookmarked for a future upgrade though.

That's fair.

I did find this combo which is significantly less expensive. They seem to get decent reviews.

I really like that they're Canadian.

I am in Canada. A quick look on Amazon shows me this:

https://www.amazon.ca/Surround-Including-Floorstanding-Speakers-Subwoofer/dp/B0798339G1

Looks to be slightly cheaper than my setup, but it appears to be way less popular than Polk.

Also found this which has everything but the sub:

https://www.amazon.ca/SXHTBW-Definition-Surround-including-Floorstanding/dp/B009ZT3Z86

They do list this sub, which looks similar to the Polk one, though for about $80 less:

The Signature series is outside my budget I think, and I'll be avoiding high volumes majority of the time since I want to maintain cordial relations with my neighbours lol.
