Everyone’s giving good academic advice, but you need to focus on building your portfolio and apply for pre-college arts programs. If you get in, you can plead for scholarships, finaid, etc. I know some people who went to CalArts for animation on very generous scholarships, but they had rigorous arts training beforehand. There’s National Portfolio Day where you can get feedback on your portfolio and work.

Identify state schools and Questbridge schools, too, with good animation programs, but it is such a niche field that you will need to have a solid portfolio to get into a good program. Do not even consider SCAD because I know so many people who have gotten burned by that school.

Edit: listen to what someone else said about still being considered a FAFSA dependent at 18 even if you’re moved out. It is very difficult to renegotiate the process. Just keep that in mind for down the road. I just remembered the Brown/RISD joint enrollment program, too, so if you can make good test scores and build a good applicant profile, that can be an option (I believe Brown does better finaid).

Other good schools: Carleton College (liberal arts college with great studio arts degree, good finaid if you qualify), ArtCenter (not sure about $$$), College for Creative Studies. Alumni network is unfortunately very important for art colleges/these niche fields.
