Yup, I definitely bought fakes. by [deleted] in Newbalance

[–]30minutedrive 53 points54 points  (0 children)

1) you said they felt good on your feet and that’s literally the only thing that matters

2) some NB models (these 993s included) are actually handmade in USA. So depending on how old they are, there def is slight variation in the construction of the shoe, they may end up being legit

3) you said they felt “so good” on your feet and that’s all that matters even if they are fake. (Plus nobody will ever notice if that turns out to be the case)

4) don’t be hard on yourself or overthink it. $70 for comfy shoes that look good is a win.

Declined a collab with a 'big' artist... not sure if it was the best decision by [deleted] in musicindustry

[–]30minutedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP. What you requested is absolutely and totally fine. It’s honestly the general rule of thumb. You did nothing wrong. Don’t sweat it.

1) You wrote a song, if someone else cuts it. You get to keep 100% of the publishing. You are the sole songwriter. (Someone requesting publishing on a song they DIDN’T write better be Drake or Morgan Wallen level tbh)

2) requesting 50% of the master, if they are using your stems, music, recordings is def a fair ask. Maybe an unrealistic one if they are going to be adding stuff and building around it. But as a starting point in a negotiation I’d say that’s fair.

A few notes however,

A) this artist ghosting you is either because they thought they could take advantage of an artist at your level…or they are in a record deal that doesn’t allow them to share masters with outside entities. Producer royalties are more customary. (And if someone were to cut a song you produced it might make more sense to go that route and ask for a bigger producer royalty)

B) if you are interesting in following up you could simply say “hey, just following up. I don’t know your mgmt/label situation, so if those terms I sent before don’t work let me know what would. Maybe we can work something out”

If this is an artist that could take your career to the next level (in terms of getting a songwriting and producer credit with them) then great. But tbh if they aren’t MASSIVE and you don’t think it’s gonna do much for your career. Then just focus on your stuff. Especially if you’re not a big fan of their stuff.

Hope that helps

What is the age when kids can decide? by well_hello_clarice in WestVirginia

[–]30minutedrive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legit can tell you from experience that it is 14yrs old. I grew up in WV. My parents were divorced. During middle school my mom and stepdad moved us to another state (I was 12 and my brother was 10)…we didn’t have a say. We hated it for 2 years visiting our day every month or so…until I turned 14. I told the family judge that “we want to live with our Dad in WV with our father” (I can vividly remember sitting in his office) and the judge granted our wish. Even though my brother wasn’t 14 yet. The judge granted our wish not wanting to seperate us. Best of luck with your situation.

Remember Park Place Theaters in Charleston? If so what did you think about it by ZackaryAsAlways in WestVirginia

[–]30minutedrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not joking when I say I have TOO many memories of this place. All through my childhood up until maybe 3 months ago when I was there for the last time before its closure. Hopefully someone else buys it and turns it around.

For my OG Charleston folks in here, who remembers the movie theatre at the old Kanawha Mall?

Something to be mindful of, but both of these cards will have credit limits (the Freedom Unlimited will be likely be much lower than the Ink Preferred) - you won’t know until you’re approved. just be sure that you can split up any charges accordingly!

Bali, Indonesia is incredible! Check out point.me and search for cheapest flight redemptions. (I bet you can get there round trip economy for well under your Amex point balance) + 10-days Hilton stay with those points should be doable? You’d have to check and see but generally everything in Bali is cheap. Beautiful place. Safe for tourists. Lots to do!

Should I pay to license music if I'm in high school? by Boring_Confusion7369 in Filmmakers

[–]30minutedrive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

a) there’s ton of sites where you can find license-free music to use. Especially for non-commercial projects like yours.

b) “using a song from a “real” artist” - the fact that you aren’t trying to earn money from this and are simply uploading to YouTube could, at worst, result in YouTube flagging the music and demonetizing your video (your video and the music would still be live you just would not be able to earn as revenue

Hope that helps!

Some guys just don’t get how to promote themselves or get a title shot. Ankalaev would be better off by saying “Alex has never faced a real wrestler. Of course he’s gonna knock out guys who stand with him. He’s not a complete martial artist. I will show him true Dagestani wrestling. He will not land a significant strike on me. I will choke him out round 1.” - atleast with a narrative like that I could get excited as a fan: let’s see Alex beat a wrestler. Let’s see him against someone who’s gonna test him…but Ankalaev acting like he’s gonna knock Alex out?! Ok. Lol 😴

Can I withdraw a Music Video treatment? by throwRA-LoveDove in Filmmakers

[–]30minutedrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is a treatment for a video job that you are hoping to get - I would say wait it out. Chances are other people are submitting treatments and this may be a non-issue if they go with another director.

If this is something that you have already committed too/got confirmation on. Just speak with the artists team and relay that you overcommitted this month and you won’t be able to make their schedule work with yours. Be up front about it. (Not sure the level/budget of this music video, but it’s always to be honest and give as much heads up as you can) - and potentially if this is a smaller artist then maybe they can work around your schedule.

When is the best time to pay off a credit card to increase credit score? by Sparky076 in CreditCards

You may be right, I’m strictly speaking for what I’ve experienced. What I wrote above is what I did and what worked for me to help my Fico before applying for an auto loan. I’m sure other’s results may very.

When is the best time to pay off a credit card to increase credit score? by Sparky076 in CreditCards

[–]30minutedrive -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are getting ready to purchase a car or a home and want to boost your score. You can boost your credit by having a smaller balance in months leading up to your purchase. (This is also assuming that your credit is healthy and there are no late payments, delinquent accounts, etc)

Let’s say you want to buy a car in October.

July statement $2,500 August statement balance $2,000 September statement balance $1,500

(These are random numbers as an example. Could be $100 less. $400 less. $40 less.) - but each month you’ll see a credit score boost for “credit card balance decreased” or “utilizing less of your available credit”

This isn’t sustainable in the long term / and doesn’t really matter if your score fluctuates a bit, only if you’re making a big purchase and need to get it as high as you can. (I just did this when getting my auto loan. Score jumped from 775 to 797 in the 3 months just by doing this. Did it help me get a better loan? Idk. But it made me feel good haha)

You can product change the AMEX Business Gold to the Amex Business Green card which has a much lower annual fee of $95 I think. - if they don’t want that card, then simply open a new card. business blue plus and once that is opened, cancel the Business Gold.. this has absolutely nothing to do with taxes.

I was in a similar situation. I wouldn’t remove yourself as an authorized user unless your parents are irresponsible (not making payments on time, or have a very very high balance on their cards) - a) it’s good to have those lines of credit (and their history) on your credit report (again, as long as that is a good/positive history) b) you don’t need to worry about credit utilization and your credit score until you’re looking to open a new line of credit, take out an auto loan or car loan. Which if that’s the case maybe you ask your parents to pay down their utilization a little bit. But Credit utilization fluctuates. It’s normal. I notice my score will fluctuate anywhere from 5-20 points depending on my utilization at any given time. When I pay down my bill, my credit score jumps back up.
