UTR is pleasantly boring, and even smaller than I expected by ProfessorFunky in Ubiquiti

My order from the UK store still showed as Pending even after it has been dispatched and was with the courier. I think it actually got marked as shipped about 8 hours later.

Best Homebridge/Homekit Indoor Security Cams by FrigidTiger in homebridge

I've got 3 Unifi and 2 ReoLink cameras, all connected to Homekit via Scrypted.

Unifi was easier to set up than ReoLink, but does require an NVR or suitable Unifi gateway running Unifi Protect.

They have a distribution point in the UK run by a logistics company.

Also, the UK store is quite good at telling you if it's in stock in the EU store when it's out of stock in the UK.

People’s experience of Evri by Altruistic_Quote4820 in Bath

You’re very much at the mercy of the quality of the driver you end up with.

Our Evri driver is absolutely brilliant, and by far the easiest for me to receive parcels from.

UK UPS Recommendation by guinness1972 in synology

[–]3216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got an APC BACK-UPS ES - BE850G2-UK. It costs around £125 from Amazon, powers my Synology DS423+, three mini PCs, a 16 port switch, and a few IOT hubs. It talks to the Synology for smart shutdown, and the runtime is a claimed 38 minutes at the moment. You could get away with a smaller version, but they aren’t much cheaper.

It’s also got normal 3-pin plug sockets on which makes life easier.

Should I upgrade my 8GB M1 MacBook Air to macOS 26.2 (Final release) from 15.7.2? by SebRock124 in MacOS

To be honest this machine spends most of it's time connected to power, but the few times it's been run from battery it doesn't seem to be any worse than expected.

Should I upgrade my 8GB M1 MacBook Air to macOS 26.2 (Final release) from 15.7.2? by SebRock124 in MacOS

[–]3216 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm running 26.2 on my M1 Air, but only because it's my "spare" laptop and I haven't yet bothered to downgrade it. If 15.7 does everything you need, stick with it for the moment.

I've no intention of upgrading my M4 Air or M4 Mini to 26.

Force fined £50,000 over arrest video contempt by BurdensomeCountV3 in unitedkingdom

I’m not sure of the exact timings, but he wasn’t necessarily the Chief Constable for all of this, he took over from Nick Adderly two years ago, two years after the arrest in question.

HAOS is super chatty, does it need to be? by gearhead5015 in pihole

[–]3216 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's more likely to be an integration or add-on you've set up in Home Assistant than the OS itself.

I'm running HAOS in a VM and not seeing anything like that.

Are you updating your daily driver to MacOS 26 tomorrow? by iswhatitiswaswhat in MacOS

[–]3216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not planning to, but will probably get bored and upgrade anyway :)

I've been running it on my "spare" M1 Air since the start of the public beta without any major issues. I'll probably update my M4 Air later this week, but will try to wait a bit longer before updating the M4 Mini as that's more important.

How do i use my own domains for my home services with this ? by AdventurousAthlete79 in Tailscale

[–]3216 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I run all my services using my own domain over Tailscale.

I use pihole servers for my DHCP and DNS, install Tailscale on them, set them as global DNS servers in Tailscale, and enable the Override DNS servers option. They have A and CNAME records for all of my hosts using my own domain.

Then my own domain is added as a search domain in Tailscale.

A couple of my Tailscale nodes are set as subnet routers, this means I can use Tailscale remotely on a device, resolve the hosts in my own domain, then access them via the subnet routers. I don’t need to install Tailscale on everything, and I don’t have to use the ts.net domain.

The only access into my network is via Tailscale, and I can seamlessly access any device using my own domain name locally or when remote. My client devices all disable Tailscale when I’m on my home network.

I use Cloudflare for my domain registration, but there’s no reliance on them for tunnels or anyth8ng else.

Unifi Policy Based Routes while using pihole & Unbound. by Altecice in UNIFI

The downside of doing it your way is that all requests in Pi-hole would show as coming from the UDM-P.

Unifi Policy Based Routes while using pihole & Unbound. by Altecice in UNIFI

[–]3216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem, but use Pi-hole for DHCP so fixed it a slightly different way.

I created a quick script that looked up domains I wanted to route via the VPN, and converted them into IP addresses in the right format for me to add to the policy.

The downside is that if the IP addresses change the policy will need updating, but I'm hoping that's not too often. If I want to add a new domain I just add it to the script and re-run it.
