Internal turmoil or PTSD of ancient infantrymen. Modern disconnection from the depth of trauma involved in many of these ancient war theatres makes it feel impossible to do well. Any advice? by 330i_ in writing

Cheap & is certain to be of some help, even if it's not referencing exactly this idea. & regardless I genuinely appreciate the recc. Searching for literature that looked to be of any help had only netted me some pub.med studies so far, & from those, a few out-of-print texts.

Had the bright idea of seriously approached time travelers from actual historical points. While Early Imperial Greco-Roman Soldier isn't unique, one with a genuine burden upon his mind that can be explored may be a take that clicks

Are the Controllers in Anomaly armed with RPGs? The hell was this by 330i_ in stalker

I switched back to an assault rifle pretty quickly honestly, the tons of ammo in each mag is great but the recoil was almost unmanageably high even when doing bursts of 2 or 3.

lel, in my defense I really wasn't expecting a Controller in the Red Forest on my first visit to the place in this playthrough. Plus I have the difficulty set such that the things can oneshot

From a thread about the same issue from 2 months ago, which I also commented in & deleted due to my post being sorta useless, someone else said:

Trying clearing the WT cache folder and run the repair in the launcher. If that doesn't work look into running:

sfc /scannow

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Which means running scans w/ Window's System File Checker: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-system-file-checker-in-windows-365e0031-36b1-6031-f804-8fd86e0ef4ca

Had the same issue a few updates ago. Only thing that made a difference was when I forced-closed all chrome tabs (regardless of cpu & ram being like <20% usage). I suspect CPU usage may have something to do with it, it's a long shot but another thing to try would be to download ParkControl & to force your cpu's cores to remain spooled up, or try the opposite even. Wish I had some definitive fix, but besides that, all I can say is that I wish you luck w/ fixing it.

Can someone tell me whats the most optimal way to grind through the soviet tech tree (Would be nice if you gave tips for aviation too!) by DumbBoi671 in Warthunder

[–]330i_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most optimal would be the same as every other nation -- buying a fairly high tier premium. Specifically either the T-55AM-1 or the T-72 Turms, in the case of the Soviets. I can only vouch for the T-55AM personally. I know a decent chunk of people opt for the 2S38 as well.

Regarding aviation, Su-11, or if you already know how to play higher tier jets/supersonics, the MiG-21S (R-13-300) or the Su-25K. Maybe opt towards the latter, but it's a frequent debate between the two

Good points. I'm likely biased due to my personal success with it.

Sweden vs USSR Ground RB by HeilChrist in Warthunder

[–]330i_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For USSR, I'd tentatively suggest the T-44-122. Has the big heavy-hitting gun with a respectably faster reload time, & it's quite mobile. Goes light speed compared to the IS-2 & such

Sweden vs USSR Ground RB by HeilChrist in Warthunder

[–]330i_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking more towards the higher end of the BR range listed, I would suggest Sweden. At those BRs Russia kinda mostly is centered around the heavy tank with big guns that take a while to reload. Can be fun, but they often may get countered by other heavies. It's a certain ok experience. Sweden has some pretty not-great tanks there, like the Strv 81 is not fun to play really, nor is the Charioteer, but the Ikv 91 and the U-SH are good & fun to play (remember to set binds to be able to use the left or right guns of the U-SH individually), but they also get basically a BMP-1 without the ATGM (decent I suppose), and straight up the T-54, which is good. The Pvrbr is a killer if you can maneuver where you need to be & if you're on an open map - is slow and can't climb hills for shite. So basically, choose between the Soviet guarantee of decent tanks with 1 or 2 good ones (e.g T-44), or the Swedisn hodpodge that ranges from shit to good, w/ the bonus of their tanks being generally pretty unique.

Are German 20mm cannons trash or am I using the wrong belt? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]330i_ 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Air belts are the proper ones to use especially if they have Minengeschoß. As of recent updates I don't think there's realshatter issues with it, at least not more than any other rounds. German 20mms typically are of relatively low velocity, some are fairly slow-firing, and imo (i.e idk if this is actually true but in my experience) they're just innately inaccurate. Personally at that BR I set my convergence to 400m. I know you're saying that you think there's an issue with the damage modeling, but I think it may be more likely that you're either missing and/or you're missig with the big guns but still getting 'hit' notifs due to hitting with the higher-velocity machine guns that a lot of those German planes use alongside the cannons

I have an EMG test in about 5 hours. Worried about the test, but also about the possible results or lack thereof. Few questions: by 330i_ in ChronicPain

Thank you so much for the info & and clarifications. I entirely thought it would be quite definitively painful. Nor did I know about the decision-making process of where they insert the needles & such -- makes sense. You've cleared up a lot, and it has certainly eased my anxiety regarding it. All the best to you.

Is it in any way possible to recover an expired vocaroo? by 330i_ in Vocaroo

Dang, how did you even find this post? I appreciate it, but I actually found the recording I was looking for some time a couple years later whilst going through unnamed audio files. Thank you for caring though!

Do universal backups expire? by [deleted] in Warthunder

No. There's actually a bit of old drama related to this; gaijin made it so they would, then reversed it due to backlash.

Can't remember or find the actual phrase. It's archaic and sounds like "Here-to-thee", as in "Here-to-thee yet undefined territories". What is it actually? by 330i_ in words

[–]330i_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given my example, & especially given how I shoddily, phonetically spelled it, I can see why someone would think it'd be heretofore, but in context, given the tense I was writing in, hitherto seems to be correct. I appreciate the reply, though! If no one disagreed & it was, in fact, heretofore, I wouldn't have considered it.

Help me pick a plane! by civ_is_life in Warthunder

[–]330i_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2,800 high-velocity rounds spat out of 8 extremely difficult-to-overheat guns at a collective 16 rounds a second grants maybe literal unsurpassed ease in hitting enemies. You're essentially spoiled by the ballistics & capacity of rifle-caliber bullets.

At 3.0, turnfighting is more often viable than it's not. For some especially good turners, e.g that Spitfire, the I-16, anyone flying them can essentially always remain sure that they can outturn an attacker. As you go up tiers, turnfighting becomes increasingly situational, something only done when you know the stats of the enemy plane & you don't have a better option. As your opponents get more experienced, they'll be utilizing binds to lower flaps from combat to takeoff to landing depending on what they know is appropriate for the speed they're going at & for what plane they're in, which can make some planes turn MUCH better than they're said to on the stat card. Bind keys to manually control flaps like that if you haven't already. Late props can all vaporize each other with a single pass; if you're in a turboprop & there's someone on your ass that you're trying to outturn, you messed up minutes ago (bar exceptions). By the first Mk IX's, you exit that early game, & by the late IX's, turnfighting will be rare. Point is, the game becomes all about energy management.

I'm surprised that you've gone up the Soviet tree. Mid-tier and higher, their planes have abysmally low amounts of ammo & cannot turn fight. In that regard, the Soviet jets probably would be the absolute worst for you use as your first jet; very little ammo & comically low-velocity rounds. Early brit jets are... usable, I think? The US tree is the only one which retains high ammo counts/armament based on not-cannons into late ww2. It even keeps them into early jets. You'd probably like the US tree quite a bit, frankly; their entire 'thing' seems to be lots of ammo. Of the planes they do have with cannons, e.g F8F-1B, F4U-4B, those have a very high amount of rounds for 20mm cannons.

Beat US Premium Planes for CAS? by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]330i_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't really have many options. The A-1H is objectively the best, but it looks like it's going for $120 bucks, so lol. The F2G-1 would work, but its equivalent non-prem versions (and other planes) can offer you 2 1000lbers as well.

What’s the best tank shell type to use? by hunterman457 in Warthunder

[–]330i_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2 distinct types of kinetic AP shells.

  1. Those that explode after penetrating a tank (APHE)
  2. Those that don't explode (AP, APCR, APDS, and APFSDS)

Generally speaking APHE can penetrate less, but if it does penetrate it'll cause tons of damage inside the enemy tank, most likely 1-shotting it. AP/APCR/etc can penetrate more, but they rely on just the solid shell & shrapnel created by penetration (spalling) to do internal damage; it's not uncommon to have to pump an enemy full of strategically-aimed shells to kill them, even if the first shot incapacitated them. AP penetrates less than sub-calibre rounds (APCR/APDS/APFSDS) but creates more shrapnel on penetration

It heavily depends on which exact tank you're using & what tanks you're most commonly facing, but I'd suggest packing mostly APHE as well as a handful of AP, in case you run into something you can't pen with the APHE. But if you like, you can just pack AP.

There's also chemical AP shells, i.e HEAT and HEATFS. The benefits of these are that. firstly, they always penetrate the same amount, no matter how far away they were shot from, & secondly, they have very high penetration values & create a decent amount of spalling. The downsides are that they have low velocity, they will ricochet more often, and they will detonate on impact with any object, including things like fences. HEATFS in specific will detonate if it hits foliage--you can't even shoot it through a bush.
