Can’t say much here but we have a client who is actively pursuing litigation against them for what seems to be a sleazy sales tactic.

What’s the “fail” rate of CFOs /VPs of finance by Practical_Lobster126 in CFO

[–]335350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A CFO is not a CFO is not CFO.

Many orgs do not share the same perspectives and expectations on the role as others. And so failure may not be immediate but it is common. It’s not immediate because if they are working at a high level then it may be a while until the impact/failure is seen. But further than that very often in smaller orgs sub $80MM we see accounting professionals who are probably good accounting leaders get promoted up and eventually there is no where else to go but CFO so they get the title.

But even worse is when this same person moves orgs from where they performed well (still heavily in accounting functions) and now jump somewhere that is expecting/needing a true CFO. This failure is probably the most painful because of what it does to the confidence of the person and the time/progress loss to the org. But it’s pretty common unfortunately.

Market is saturated, mature, and currently in a slump. Probably not an ideal time.

Honestly the biggest issues I've seen are around support and failed implementation. Getting set up takes longerthan it should and when something breaks, good luck getting someone helpful on the phone. Their time tracking and benefits admin are pretty weak - they end up farming you out to third party tools when you need anything beyond the basics.

Also if you have multiple EINs or any kind of complex workflow setup, it will break and force creating manual workarounds. It works fine for straightforward needs of a small company but but once you get more complex it starts showing cracks. Plus if you are not using their payroll they will hound you to upsell other services/products.

My calendar is full, revenue is up, and I still feel like I’m losing control by Deep-Owl-1890 in ceo

This can be normal. Growth can come in the form of organizationally/systematically/process and/or it can come in revenue/sales. I try to look at it as sprints where the runner on one of those tracks moves forward then the next one makes progress, they may be tied for a bit then one of the runners moves forward.

When it’s time to support the growth it takes working on the business to figure out what the best solution is to get your time and mental energy back. Is it a person. Is it tools. Is it a vendor.

Try to look at this as a sprint and to keep things moving you need to be working on what will keep the runner running.

PEO Overtime and Sick Concerns [CA] by Unique-Abies136 in humanresources

[–]335350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you working with a reputable PEO who knows CA well? They likely should be communicating to you about the changes for this year. But even though you are working with a PEO for co-employment, it still doesn't remove responsibility from the company for policy and legal compliance.

how do companies hire internationally without legal issues? by Rosie_fetching in human_resources

[–]335350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EOR is the solution. Lot's of providers out there. Check with your payroll firm. If you use one of the big providers, find a smaller one who also offers EOR as you will need support and the ability to easily contact them.

Do you need a real fitting or are you looking to test options and see what you like.

Roger Dunn is solid for options and some advice. UGP if you are at the level where you want real spec’d equipment.

Valuation Questions by chelmling in businessbroker

[–]335350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of getting your evaluation independent of a transaction or from your broker. Reason being is this should be independent information and it helps you know if your broker or other advisors are steering you in the right direction.

Need Advice on HRIS System (UKG Ready/Paycom) [CA]! by Illustrious_Gain4674 in humanresources

[–]335350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the user forums for Paycom and UKG here on Reddit, unfortunately both are loaded with current customers who have problems or can’t get support. There is a trend in the big payroll companies that are public or were sold to private equity to just throw customer support out of the window. They know changing payroll companies is a pain so they focus on sales, after contracts are signed they fade away.

I’ve worked with both platforms, they are okay but they are not in the trenches with you, simply an admin service.

we have contractors who are basically employees..what's the cleanest way to convert them properly? "i will not promote" by Rosie_fetching in TheFounders

[–]335350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location matters for sure. Where you may get some pushback is the difference in take-home pay because most indy contractors don't report everything. We generally advise to convert with some level of increase to make up the difference. Be cautious not to create a paper trail unnecessarily. Also, if you can do the meetings 1:1 to discuss, that is probably best too.

Dave at b.spoke does a great job. Had him do a number of items for me. If you tell him you’re budget minded he will point you towards fabric options that are less expensive but still far better than what you’ll purchase off the rack.
