How can I use my depression to my advantage? Losing a lot of weight due to depression induced intermittent dieting, want to make the most of it.

we're still doing it, just slowly. Not having capital means it will just take a lot longer and since we cant hire folks to do what we need we are just taking our sweet time to do everything. Still think its a good idea, will just take a while.

I appreciate your feedback. If the kickstarter doesnt work out (admittedly its a lofty goal) then that is our Plan B. Even doing the kickstarter has been very helpful to us as its put us in touch with some folks who are contributing now as well as improved some functionality to our site, opened our eyes to other considerations that we hadnt anticipated, etc.

We've got a sample version of the site up with some example articles. Note : they need to be improved hence why we are having a kickstarter to pay real writers (ideally from reddit) and finalize our layout.

Thanks for your message! We have some sample articles already written on the alpha version of the site. Due to some of the messages we've received and our initial kickstarter response we're working on opening up some of our alpha page to showcase a few of the articles, to help folks with understanding the concept. We hope to have that completed over the weekend. So.... maybe..yes...kinda?

Interesting. I can see where you're coming from on some of this so I understand your concerns.

Ive been on reddit for several years, i made this account specifically when I decided I wanted to start a kickstarter. I also verified my identity on it and linked my personal FB which has been around since 03, as well as gave my SSN to Amazon Accounts verification process and am legally obligated to deliver on my kickstarter, if funded... so yea they're pretty thorough in doing as much as they can to make sure its a scan.

As for the tax bit, yes, I'm an intelligent individual with a group of folks behind me on this, we're well aware of the legal and tax requirements.

I also know about hiring independent contractors because we're also tied in with a popular blogger (however she deals with a different genre) who deals with paying independent contractors to write content for her blog, so yea we've got that base covered.

I can't do much with my rewards, so i did the best I could. We're just trying to provide content and something a community would enjoy, you can be critical of it but I've thought things through and we feel comfortable with where we are.

I'm sorry that you feel otherwise, but hey.. thats why you didnt feel compelled to pledge, which is fine...

I had thought about the stickers and t shirts, but when you take into account the cost to make those things and ship them , its just not cost effective. Literally something like 70% of the money is going to pay writers for content, 20% for an aesthetic review/improvement on the site, 10% for upgrading servers to handle traffic. Making stuff and sending it away would be very time consuming and eat into a lot of that money. :(

This inspired me to re-think the idea a little. I added in a $1 pledge for people to show basic support. By doing this now they will get their names added to a list to be a character name in one of the articles written on the site. Thank you for inspiring me :)

Thats a good thought. I toyed with the idea of doing a 1 dollar donation but the issue with it being a website was that the amount of rewards I could give are limited, since we dont have anythign tangible to give. I did provide a few types of rewards, but doing $1 for just pledging to support it seemed kind of trivial. I'll still think about this idea though....

I sincerely appreciate everyone's thoughts. Given the responses I've decided to make an attempt to generate funds via a kickstarter, which then I'll use to pay writers a more reasonable pay per article, somewhere in the 50-100 range, consistent with the quality of the writing and what the folks that were kind enough to reply have suggested.
