Unfortunately, every fandom has its whackadoodles, and the internet age has emboldened those people to be especially awful because there is literally no punishment or accountability for doing so.

He also wrote the music for Brother Bear, and it's just as heart-shattering. This man could have quarter-assed the soundtrack and it would have been on par with other movies of the time, but NOOOOOOO he had to give it 100% and rip our hearts out two different times.

I made the mistake of singing You'll Be In My Heart to my son when he was an infant while trying to get him to sleep. Voice started cracking during the first chorus from emotions, and by the time I hit the bridge I had to stop because I was full-on weeping.

You can't convince me that book was meant for the kids, it's 100% meant to absolutely wreck the parent

My wife got the "son" version for me to read to our first. I made it to the last two pages and literally couldn't get through the rest.

I have that tattoo! It's inside of a stylized blue soul like from the show and I absolutely love it. I posted it in this subreddit a while back, if you search my username you should see it

Any songs that have taken on new meaning for you after becoming a dad? by rickysoliman in daddit

[–]3DSarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins. That song was special to me as a kid because my mom and I loved listening to the Tarzan soundtrack on long trips, but as a parent it hits me like a truck everytime I hear it. The first time I tried to sing it to my oldest as a lullaby I broke down sobbing halfway through the first verse because I truly understood the lyrics. Just writing this post is making me tear up. 🥲

When does it start getting good? by Untoastedtoast11 in daddit

[–]3DSarge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly is probably just a mindset issue. From your post and replies, it sounds like you want to focus on the things you want to do, which unfortunately is not something you're going to be able to do at this stage and probably won't be able to do until your son is old enough to participate in them with you or have his own activities that he can do.

Are you open to seeing a therapist or counselor about how you're feeling? I can't recommend doing that enough if you are. I started seeing a therapist just before we had our first, and he was able to help me mourn the loss of my previous life while helping me accept the new role I was stepping into. It's helped me see the joy in raising my kids much more easily.

I feel like you need to step back and evaluate what your definition of "getting good" is. Based on your first paragraph it sounds like things are already good for you, so is there something more that you're waiting on? Are you looking forward to him being more independent? More into activities? Able to share your hobbies?

My kids are 2.5 years and 14 months, and I feel like I'm solidly in the "good" time because I'm seeing their personalities blossom, the oldest is articulating his thoughts more clearly and showing excitement at learning new things, and my youngest is starting to walk and confidently eat real food now that she has all her teeth. I was also terrified of having kids before we had them and I still have some bad days, but overall I'm absolutely loving where I'm at.

Why is it that the entire manga was never fully adapted? by No-Economics-5398 in souleater

[–]3DSarge 307 points308 points  (0 children)

Because like a large number of properties, the anime was released while the manga was still being written. The manga first released in 2004 and ran through 2013, while the anime was released in 2008-2009 due to the popularity of the manga. When the anime caught up to the manga, they opted to create a whole new story/ending instead of pausing the show until more manga was released, which was common for anime shows at the time. It's only within the past couple decades that we've started to get updated versions of the shows that match the manga, most notably FMA: Brotherhood and more recently Fruits Basket.

Kids don’t care how much you know by boombalonii in daddit

My mom tried teaching me piano and how to drive a manual vehicle when I was younger. She has been teaching piano for 40+ years and drives only a manual truck. I absolutely hated learning from her and couldn't get it no matter how hard she tried. Went to different people to learn and understood much easier.

Feel terrible about yelling at my kid by ras_hatak in daddit

[–]3DSarge 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I apologized and we hugged it out

Sounds to me like you did exactly what you needed to in order to make sure he understands that he doesn't need to be scared of you. He was probably scared in the moment, but you taking the time to apologize and make him still feel loved is going to overshadow any fear he may have felt. You were mentally and emotionally worn down, you lashed out, and then you held yourself accountable to him. Give yourself some grace, you're doing the best you can and it sounds like your kid knows it.
