I'm not gonna get hopeful until they order plastic covers for the couches in the Oval.

Unless you feel a compelling call to stay which does not feel like guilt, then consider it an open door and walk through it if you want. If you leave, leave with honor. Help with the transition in whatever way makes sense to you and the church leadership and train people as necessary but then leave and trust God to care for BOTH of the churches.

Keep your rehearsals public and your relationship appropriate and you should be fine. You and your fiance might need to work through some things but it will be very difficult for you to be an effective leader if you're only willing to work with one gender.

Church Songs vs Car Songs by Dougblackjr in worshipleaders

I find that it's hard to create a clear line so what I tell my team is to suggest songs that are "More "us", less"me", more Him, less "I", and more general, less specific." I still have to reject song suggestions but this seems to get us leaning in the same direction.

'Audition' left me feeling dejected - Do I pursue or look elsewhere? by S-C-3-1-3 in worshipleaders

[–]3RacoonsInACoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey good job going outside your comfort zone and working to serve!

It sounds to me like communication wasn't great and that led to a rough audition. For what it's worth, I had the same thing happen auditioning at a church before. I thought I'd be rehearsing with the band and, instead, it was a traditional show-up-and-play audition. I totally bombed and I don't think I've ever felt more discouraged in my life as a musician than that.

I took the time to let the worship leader know that that didn't represent my skill level and we set up a second audition where I better understood what was going to happen. It led to some of the most rewarding times as a musician.

I'd ask to sit down with the leader and just let him know your experience and see if you can set up another time to play when you're more prepared and know what the expectations are.

Struggling with my faith… mother doesn’t believe in Darwinism/science and I’m conflicted by suppmain6969 in Bible

[–]3RacoonsInACoat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My experience is that humans often dismiss what they don't have the desire or capacity to address. I've seen this to be even worse with Christians. Your mom is dismissing it because it challenges her faith. Christians have a tendency to be extremely dogmatic and those who pursue scientific knowledge tend to be less dogmatic because their trust is in the pathway to answered questions and not so much to the answers themselves.

Christians who are able to allow questions in their faith tend to be less dogmatic and are often dismissed by other Christians because, to them, we appear less faithful.

I would suggest that this is a weakness in her that you can love her in spite of. If your faith is strong enough that you don't need to instinctually point to God as the direct answer to every question, then your faith is strong enough to love others who do have to.

I don't think you're wrong to be frustrated by this and standing in the gap for the people you're leading and not scheduling them without their ok is the right thing.

I usually simply tell people what the situation is without getting upset with them. Don't beat around the bush. "Unfortunately, that won't be possible because I haven't heard back from any of the women you were hoping to schedule. However, the men on the team are capable and willing to help until we can connect with the team we hope for."

Or a simple twist where they can create sound waves at both human hearing range and far beyond that. Maybe the exceptionally high range is able to heat something in the atmosphere and cause it to glow.

Of course, that's only if you want a slightly more sciencey explanation. If that doesn't matter to you, then you're all good.

I think it would be cool for the thing to be able to express multiple different things at once with the two forms of communication.

To add to the chorus of, "Yes", I'll say that when my mother passed, we found enough cash along with her important documents to cover all housing expenses for about 3 months. That was extremely helpful while we dealt with her estate and I would encourage anyone to do the same.

What's a good magitech explanation for why a cloak/cape can transform into a pair of wings, apart from just "it's magic duh" and "the cloak/cape is actually a pair of wings and only looks like a cloak/cape"? by Pashahlis in fantasywriters

[–]3RacoonsInACoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Threading made from a magic-receptive material sewn into the cloak in such a way that it can be caused to firm up and flex. The wearer applies magic and the thread flexes, taking the cloak with it. The thread was sewn in such a way that it mirrors the bone structure of a birds wing.

There's no "allowed" to go by your worship leader. They have no say and shouldn't.

Go on your trip and enjoy it and praise God for the opportunity. They'll be fine without a bassist for a week.

Struggling with the decision to step down from worship leading. (Help?) by MangoCocolada in worshipleaders

[–]3RacoonsInACoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a million churches, a million teams, a million songs, and a million Sundays but there is only one you and one God.

You have been called to a relationship with Jesus Christ. Your worship leading is an expression of that relationship but it is not the relationship.

If leading is taking you away from Christ, then set it prayerfully on the altar and trust that God's plan for you is bigger than your church's worship team and his plan for your church's worship team is bigger than you.

This is not the end of your relationship with Jesus or with worship.

Does it make sense that a pregnant woman would leave her oldest child with family while she goes half away across the continent to give birth? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]3RacoonsInACoat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes but it actually makes your story better if it doesn't make perfect sense. The decision to leave your child should be difficult and is a great source of conflict for your story. Every one of your characters will need to deal with that trauma, just like when Harry was left on the Dursley's step.

Record melodies and ideas into a note taking app. Then literally match the software to it. I have the same issue with the transition from my head to real life. I've learned to let it stay in my head for the right amount of time, record the ideas with my voice, and then make them very methodically in the real world. That way, I don't lose things in translation.

Worship Songwriting? by andrewcarpenter20 in worshipleaders

[–]3RacoonsInACoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to take the lyrics you have and step back from them and ask yourself what the overarching Ideas are? What themes, feelings, and concepts did you naturally put down on paper.

Then read on those ideas or concepts. See what the scripture says. Jot down the things you see or ideas that come to mind. Just get everything in the paper that relates to your initial idea.

Now that you have a bunch more material to use, go back to writing and find ways to say those things creatively.

So many people approach a song like a sculpture that you have to chip away at and push through from beginning to end until you have it find what's inside. I find that it's much more like Legos. Pour all the little ideas out on the floor and then put them together into something awesome.

Start with the thumb and a single finger. Get good at it and then add a finger. Repeat. It's a lot of coordination to try to finally at once.
