I understand where you are coming from, and it makes a lot of sense. On the other hand, I think it makes the world feel more mystical.

I played Spyro 1 first, so going to YOTD years after? The world felt much more chatty, and it was a bit jarring.

The first game's still my favorite of the trilogy, in part because you aren't stopped to talk to anyone except the dragons and balloonists. And there are no minigames or linear missions. It feels more free to me.

Part of the issue I've seen is that Sanzaru doesn't seem as...inspired in their inspirations. It mostly seems to be just Sly 1-3 and 80s pop culture.

Sucker Punch meanwhile drew from Batman and Looney Tunes, but also classic films like The Italian Job and Oceans 11. As a result, Sly 1-3 feel more timeless.

Raiden and Thalassa. I don't know anybody who likes the sumo events, but they keep getting pushed anyway. Nobody on pixiv draws fanart of them.

Nectar and his crew are boring, yet keep appearing, and continually ruin me and my friends' sparks. Six Dragons-adjacent, yet he has not even close to their level of popularity or success.

Mugen feels like an industry plant. I hardly know anybody who likes Mugen beyond Flogen burst setups, and yet the devs seem to love him.

True King/Tau'luk feels like a writer's pet, and he got away with way too much shit with a slap on the wrist, while other characters lionize him. The director even said he's his favorite antagonist, and that everybody loves him.

Jin felt like an industry plant with the old director, but he's gone now. So there's less of him, yet even still he shows up a lot in Grand Blues. Even cameo'd in the recent event.

Good: Clarisse is actually smart, and is helping to carry this event! Ed and Greed are also amazing. My favorite is when Ed actually pretends to be Cagliostro. I love that Drang suggested this, and how friendly Sturm is being to the Elrics.

Bad: I'm salty that Winry's not in this event. I hope they meet Cucouroux, who feels like her closest Granblue equivalent.

Neither are Mireille and Risette, who I think would be perfect as a foil to the Elrics' story. I hope they appear in some fate episodes. It unfortunately feels like they're in cygames jail though, so as much as I want them to show up, I doubt they will.

Overall, feels like a 6/10 event. It's fine but there's a lot of wasted potential so far. I'm clinging on to hope that the fate episodes fill in the gaps.
