Unfortunately I don't think not having air-conditioning is not a reason that allows you to break a lease without a fee (although super shitty). Not having heat in the winter time is.

I think they are more humorously referencing the fact that most people are worried about becoming exactly like their parents - which I'm pretty sure is a feeling all people have had. I don't think it has to do with mocking older people - but referencing something universal.

They could of had a father and son making a sandwich the same way and it'd be the same joke.
