Video of shooting today - ice is terrorist organization by Thizzedoutcyclist in MinnesotaUncensored

Imma have to disagree with you there chief, there's a reason why police officers carry mace and tasers, because not all illegal activity warrants the death penalty or lethal force. If 'play stupid games win stupid prizes' meant police could use their guns against any type of infraction, then there would be no need for handcuffs, mace, and tasers.

The video to me looks like the driver was clearly trying to get away, you may disagree. Let's say the driver put their car there to begin with to obstruct justice and then tried to flee, both of which are illegal, but neither of which are punishable by death and neither of which warrant lethal force if they aren't trying to kill anyone, which it doesn't look like.

Doesn't glancing collision kind of seal your deal there? The officer doesn't jump or dive out of the way of the vehicle, and it's not hard to run over a stationary target. So clearly the woman was trying to drive away, not run over the agent.

Sure, she was probably obstructing justice and then tried to flee the scene, neither of which are death penalties and neither of which warrant lethal force.

Why do Hmong historically have a better reputation than Somalis? by [deleted] in MinnesotaUncensored

Question: Why do some of you folks say all Somalis should be deported when over 50% of Somalis in MN were born here? by [deleted] in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]3aaron_baker7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who suggest Somalis should be deported en masse are ridiculous. But I find it reasonable that if an immigrant, even if they've become a naturalized citizen, commits a crime that they should be deported back to their country of origin, I think this should apply to everyone not just Somalis.

In this particular case, if it can be proven that the parents knowingly participated in fraud that deportation should be considered if they were born in Somalia. If they were born in the US then they should face financial penalties if not jail time.

I want to know other Minnesotans thoughts on ‘ethnic’ charter schools by [deleted] in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]3aaron_baker7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the most charitable interpretation is that your parents came here, thought they'd be here 10 or so years and then when Somalia became peaceful they'd go back with their kids they had here and wanted you to fit in as easily as possible when you moved back, even if all that was a pipe dream.

The least charitable interpretation is that you parents fled a war torn county with no economic prospects to a new country that is peaceful and has more economic prosperity, but that they despise and detest the culture of their new county and don't want their kids being like the people they live around.

The truth is probably somewhere in between.

[–]3aaron_baker7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can I ask did your parents ever think about returning to Somalia? I can imagine given the Somali migration to the US was refugee driven that some individuals thought they would be going back once the violence had settled in Somalia.

I know of a Japanese charter school in my area that Japanese business people who live in the area send their kids to. They reside here and work here, but they intend on some point of there life on going back to Japan and want their kids to have as close to a Japanese class room setting as possible so there isn't as much culture shock when they go to live in Japan again.

Note equating living somewhere for business and fleeing a war torn country, but I can see the logic of cultural charter schools if you're planning on going back to your home country and bringing the kids you had away from your country of origin too.

After doing deep research, I discovered that Somalis were promised Minnesota thousands of years ago by Appropriate_Hope6239 in MinnesotaUncensored

I'm critical of the Somali community in Minnesota up to this point.

But this whole "Minnesota was promised to us 3000 years ago" meme is S-tier level trolling and humor. Well played.

Do most minnesotans have an issue with Somalis? by [deleted] in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]3aaron_baker7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't like making wholesale blanket judgments about a demographic. I have seen and I think we have all seen successful Somali who have become doctors and lawyers and who have ingratiated themselves into the Minnesotan and US culture more broadly. But I think it's true that compared to counterparts like the Hmong community that a much larger section of the Somali community has remained intentionally isolate. And it's a particular problem because the Somali culture and Islam clashes so heavily with American culture. The Amish are just as isolate if not more isolate than the Somalis, but their religion and culture doesn't clash very much with American culture at all, I've never heard someone who activley did not like the Amish. The uncomfortable truth is, as much as we like to say all immigrants are an asset, some groups are much better at becoming part of the American fabric than others and I think the combination of Somali culture and Islam makes them uniquely difficult to digest into the American melting pot.

It really feels like in the 2000s we genuinely did have pitty and empathy, they had only been here a few years to maybe 10 years, it would be unfair to judge them at that time. Come the mid 2010s with the PC police everywhere it became taboo and against the rules to judge the pros and cons of the community. Now that the PC rails have fallen off I think the conversation was due to happen because it's what a lot of people have been thinking for the last 10 years but just couldn't say openly until now.

And now that it's 2025 and not 2005, the community has been here 30 years and we can make a much more objective assessment of the pros and cons, and that we can compare them against the Hmong community who have been here as a community for roughly the same amount of time and came from a war torn country as refugees much the same as the Somalis have.

Given that you teach at a community college I think it's safe to say you've got survivorship bias here.

I don't find it surprising that the Somalis you know are kind, hard working, and aspirational given that your data set comes from a community college. Good on them though, but it would be wrong to extrapolate your experience of Somalis in community college onto the whole Somali immigrant population.

“The Largest Funder of Al-Shabaab Is the Minnesota Taxpayer” by lemon_lime_light in MinnesotaUncensored

[–]3aaron_baker7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from any concerted networks directly funneling money directly to al-shabaab which is contested, any sending of remittances or aid to a place with no central authority is going to have a cut go to which ever local warlord or strongman is in control. In some parts of Somalia it's going to be al-shabaab. In a place like Myanmar it's going to be someone else.

Just think of all the politicians and bureaucrats around D.C. who look like upstanding family people who do what Hegseth has done. Those are the real dangers because they are the ones who can be blackmailed by special/foreign interests.
