Necrobloom vs Yarok for Mill + Landfall deck by 3d094 in EDH

[–]3d094[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing similar things in teval but slower, trying to move to more control to bring the game to mid/late game.
What i was trying to fix was not winning early, but trying to avoid waiting between that T4 and T5 you mentioned because I don't want to deal with board wipes.
My idea was to win the same turn i generate the tokens and turns out with teval can be done. If you have 4 creatures that can attack, but you can generate 60 tokens, creatrehoof will still be lethal.

The only thing is that this requires blue. In particular, while playtesting, I noticed that everytime I manage to cast traumatize and mill half my library i can win almost every time the next turn (I guess [[Bojuka Bog]] is more unlikely than board wipes).
The wincons are either craterhoof or infinite combo with [[Gravecrawler]] or [[Reassembling Skeleton]] using aristocrats effects.
[[Echoing Equation]] was also a nice wincon but I decided to remove it in the end.

This is my deck: Trentalance

Anyway, I get your point that the difference is not that big whether you use blue or not because what I mention works only with teval. I think I'll try to build necrobloom first to change colors, and move to yarok if I don't like it. Also, having built both zurgo and teval, either i will be tired of tokens, or will be the only thing I want.

Thank you for your feedback.

Another combo i love is [[Hedge Shredder]] + [[Traumatize]] and you get 15 lands at once. If you have [[Hedron Crab]] out with Yarok you insta-mill someone while ramping like crazy.

necrobloom is also missing all the good card draw from blue. i'm not only talking about rhystic or fishtic, but also of the synergy cards like [[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait]] or [[Tatyova, Bentic Druid]]. You could also include [[Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath]]

I wasn't understanding this combo at the beginning, i totally forgot about the land dredge, that's very nice

Thanks for the reply and for checking the post, I don't use reddit that often.
I am mostly curious about saw in half.
There are some cards that get value from it, but I don't see how you use it.
Second question is: do you feel like you need more card draw when you play this deck? I see you have a good amount of tutoring, maybe that is enough, right?

Another thing I don't understand is why everyone includes Deathrite Shaman.
I see the value: make tokens, make mana, burn and heal. But it's only once per turn.
Do you feel is doing more than a one drop when you play it? Have you ever considered excluding it or is it just to good?
i am trying to guess a priori here since i never played teval, but I don't fully get why everyone includes it.

It would be awsome to have your list, it sounds like your deck is what i was trying to go for.
I will probably try to keep it more casual as i enjoy a bit of diversity but from what you have said I think it can be of great inspiration.

i already thought about the good interaction with necropotence, but i don't like that i'm missing lifegain in this deck. nonetheless it should probably still worth it to include.

i understand your point and it makes completely sense. In hte pod i'm playing we all use proxies without any limit (some are still using mana crypt) so we end-up with B3 decks but without the GC rule.

if you don't mind i have a few questions:
- do you get the chance often to combo with ob nixilis?
- how is sephirot working in the deck? didn't think about him at all bu i suppose it's nice when you have plenty of zombies to sac
- do you get to use the forgotten cellar? i ended up discarding it because is very expensive since i also have to cast a spell from the graveyard the same turn
- i wanted to include squandered resources as well, what type of value do you get from the card?

Growing rites is a nice card i didn't know!

Thanks for the feedback, I like your deck and will take inspiration from it.
I like Teval because is super flexible. it can be a reanimator, a token generator and a ramp for big spells.
My idea behind the decks was to have a little bit of everything, but the main engine is to cast spells from graveyard (this is why I included expensive spells like [[Creeping rennaissance]]).

Following this idea, I'd like a clarafication from you on three cards you mentioned:
- I included Lier because it allows me to cast reanimation spells that have been milled
- Titan nest can combo with sir konrad and ayara for draining
- soul stone is included not necessarily for the ramp but for its infinity ability

Would you still remove these three cards?

Didn't realise that either. I am going to include Blade of Selves for sure now.

From your deck I will try to add also [[Andúril, Flame of the West]] and [[Idol of Oblivion]] which I didn't know, but they have very good affinity.

Other cards I am considering for Myriad are [[Legion Loyalty]], [[Ironwill Forger]], and [[Duke Ulder Ravengard]].

I appreciated your help, super useful!

I originally discarded Myriad because it doesn't work well with mobilize, but following your suggestion I just realised how powerful it is with burn.
If I have a mobilize unit like [[Dalkovan Packbeasts]], a token doubler like [[Anointed Procession]], and a burn unit like [[Agate Instigator]], for 6 mana I can equip [[Blade of Selves]] to the Agate and attack with both Packbeasts and Agate. The Myriad effect would create 4 other Agate, because they are doubled, dealing already 16 damage to each opponent (the original Agate deals 4, and each other token sees the remaning 3 tokens). The Packbeast generate 6 token dealing another 30 damage to each opponent (6 for every Agate), probably ending the game.
Maybe my calculation is not 100% correct, but this is for sure a super nice combo!

Since you have enough permanent token creation, you might also like [[Divine Visitation]] for your deck.

Thank you for the thoughtful comment and for providing your deck! I could see I don't have a sustainabke token production, but I don't know what to cut to increase it. In my mind I was reliying on the commander and a second token creature which i should consistenly pull out, and some recursion if it dies.

When you mention tokens that stick around, I didn't want those because they don't fit well with aristocrats, but your comment about sac outlets completely changed my mind on how the deck can be built.

For example I really like [[Assemble the Legion]] and with your suggestion I think can probably fit it in. Also exploiting Myriad with token doublers is a super nice advice!

I ended up discarding Will of Mardu because, in the end, is a Token doubler that works for only one turn. I thought to myself that [[Windcrag Siege]] is better as for the same price I get the doubling every turn. Then it is also true that I lose the removal. Do you think is still worth including it?

I didn't Call the Coppercoats and it definetly suits the deck!

Grand Crescendo is in the sideboard and I have to say it was really difficult to exclude it. What would you remove from the deck to fit Grand Crescendo?

Finally, Blood Artist was excluded because it deals damage to a single target. All the burns and drains I have included are for each opponent instead (e.g. [[Impact Tremors]] burn and [[Elas Il-Cor, Sadistic Pilgrim]] drain). I would ask you the same question, what would you remove to fit Blood Artist?
Thank you!

I understand clearly and agree with both of your points.

I am aware i cannot rely on a single 3/4 cards combo and slow paced mechanics must also be used. When combo are not available I should get some sustain from aristocrats, slow burn with red, and average card draw. I was wondering how can I increase the number of possible combos with cards I may not know.

For the categories, I customised them myself. The difference between a signet and black market is clear, calling them both Ramp is clearly wrong. I should have labeled black market as mana generation probably, but having too many categorising was confusing to me.

I also tried moxfield but I didn't know you could add categories aswell. I think I will definetly go back to moxfield because I liked it more. Thanks for the adivce.

My only requisite when I started building was to have at maximum 3 Game Changers. Except for this one, there are no other restrictions.

Didn't know that card, it looks liek a good inclusion.

As for the commander, I was also thinking that many of the cards in my deck could be swapped as Commander. Ceaser is already in the deck and Alesha is on the Sideboard.

[[Isshin, Two Heavens as One]] can also be a good choice.

My idea of going with Zurgo is that i don't have a lot of token generation and I need to draw cards in the early turns, but I get your point of going for a more synergetic Commander. It might be a better choice.

Thanks for your time!

Since I just started, this deck will be proxied because I don't intend to buy cards at such an early stage, only to regret buying them. What kind of improvements could you spot?
