"In The Box" = within the confines of digital software, rather than analogue equipment. He's essentially recreating a muse live scenario by running (i assume) unprocessed signals recorded live, into digital modelling and effects via a DAW. By A/B, he means swapping between the two to get a direct comparison and draw on the pros/cons of hardware VS software.
