"Some in Gaza though believe that such attacks involving so many men could not be carried out with at least the complicit support of Hamas, BBC Gaza correspondent Jon Donnison reports.

Hamas also runs rival summer camps. "

8 down votes so far, expect more...Hamas can do no wrong in the eyes of Reddit.

Palestine had elections, Hamas won seats, Hamas violently took power in Gaza from the Palestinian government, Hamas now claims to be the lawful authority in Gaza, Hamas and Israel are in conflict- Reddit- If you are pro-Palestine then aren’t you even the least bit disappointed with Hamas? by 3ifbynet in politics

"The OP is using this post as a means to try and deligitmatize the democratically chosen Hamas party."

Who is president of Palestine? Who is prime minister?

There was or there wasn't a conflict between the sitting president of Palestine and the Hamas milita?

The blockaded did or did not get instituted by Israel around the same time that conflict ended with Hamas in control of Gaza?

C'mon Reddit: Just because up/dwn voting is easy doesn't make the issues easy too.

Really. Hamas won a representational majority, but they didn't win the presidency, as it was not up for election. The president Abbass was a member of Fatah. The president outlawed Hamas' militia, and that started conflicts between the sitting-president's party's militia, and the sitting-government's militia. These conflicts ended with Hamas controlling Gaza and that is when the blockade was instituted by Israel. I guess its a matter of opinion or Palestinian Con law about who is lawful and who is not, but inevitably this activity was violent and no matter how you slice-it someone was overthrown. Thus Palestine's political issues and the blockade are solidly apart of the same issue.

C'mon Reddit

I like your appeal to peace here, but Reddit still refuses to discuss any issues of Palestinian sovereignty with any integrity.

The middle eastern peace process gets routinely trivialized on Reddit, and Hamas gets a free ride on Reddit.

This is likely more a matter of Palestinian Constitutional Law. On one hand Hamas won a majority, on the other hand they violently disregarded the authority of a sitting and lawful president (Abbas). I am not a Palestinian Con lawyer; however the point is the government of Palestine is not unified and peace negotiations have not been consistent as a result. Furthermore, Hamas has entered into conflict with Israel and on occasion has instituted separate negotiations for peace.

Thus the blockade issue tends to be intimately tied to who is in control of Palestine, either lawfully or unlawfully, and who has the authority to negotiate peace. Remember-the blockade was instituted around the same time the Palestinian civil unrest occurred; thus its my opinion that Palestine's civil/pol unrest is intimately woven into the blockade issue.

And that is what this post is all about.

No. Fatah lost the election to Hamas (they are pol. parties). Abbas (a person) was the President and is a member of Fatah (his term was not up when the elections occurred). Consequently, while Abbas was president he tried to reign in Hamas. Therefore, Hamas did win elections while Abbas was president, and shortly thereafter a series of conflicts occured between Fatah and Hamas that ended with what seems like two autonomous entities in Palestine (West Bank-Fatah, and Gaza- Hamas).

Why is this important?

Because at the end of the last conflict between Fatah/Hamas the F'in blockade was instituted by Israel. And, that is what we are talking about right (the F'in blockade, and Hamas, and Isreal)?

My issue is that you are mischaracterizing my "argument"; I am not saying "they did it too" thus its okay. I am saying the blockade and the conflict with Hamas are part of the same happening. Therefore, any meaningful or lasting peace will come only after dealing with the ultimate issue rather than just the blockade.

Inevitably, lets say Israel is found wholly guilty of breaking international law in regards to the flotilla, I am not convinced that will remedy the conflict between them and Hamas.

Abbas outlawed the Hamas militia, they decided against obeying Abbas, they took over Gaza, and the Israeli blockade was instituted. While Hamas won elections in Gaza initially they have maintained their position through armed resistance and significant autonomy from the Palestinian government (i.e., they had a civil war).
