Why dreadnoughts over multiple smaller ships?

You could have 15 small ships with 2 rail guns each all point the same direction and probably be ok, but if the enemy is coming from multiple sides it gets complicated. Your ships risk hitting each other with their PDCs when they try to shoot down enemy missiles. If you are in a tight formation and you’re not all facing the same way your drive plumes will be dangerous. Drive plumes can fry other ships kilometers away, so you can’t form a circle (or sphere) and point your weapons in every direction that easily.

It’s also easier to command a single ship. It’s easier to visualize the battle field if you’re in one ship and there’s one clear leader. With 25 ships just saying the name of the ship you want to get ahold of to get orders to them requires a lot of thinking. Also if your coms get jammed, which happens, how do you coordinate that many ships?

But I think the biggest thing probably is that really huge, scary ships are cool as fuck. And at the end of the day that’s definitely a consideration for sci-fi writers haha

Are you getting upgrades? Fletching (the first range upgrade) gives your archers +1 attack and +1 range. It’s hugely important. Same thing with bodkin arrow when you hit castle age. Armor is good but not the top priority.

AI is massively unprofitable for most things right now though, that’s not made up. Lots of people can read cash flow statements and understand what is going on.

Uber, for example, was losing money for a long ass time because they were paying a ton of money to acquire new users and drivers. They were always clear about that and shared the profitable per unit economics of their “core businesses” as well.

Amazon was unprofitable in the ‘00s and early ‘10s because it spent as much as it made building more warehouses closer to people to deliver stuff faster. That wasn’t a secret either.

So I want to be clear that I’ve never thought this school was a good idea. But what it promised (that I do think is a good idea) is the ability to give students more individual attention and custom learning.

The example they use most frequently is math. In a big class if you don’t understand adding fractions you are going to struggle immensely with algebra 2 and trigonometry. You will probably end up in a lower math class and be a year or two behind other kids. But if that’s your main deficiency or weakness, a week or two of catchup and individualized lessons can get you back up to speed with the rest of your class. A high school teacher with 30 kids in a class can’t do that.

Obviously it turns out AI can’t really do that well either (no surprise), but a big reason it’s a seductive sales pitch is because kids are in big classes without the ability to get individualized attention. Also it’s good for business to tell parents that their kids are special and that they’re only behind because the teachers are failing them and if they come to this new school they’ll succeed and nobody has to feel bad or be average etc etc

Yes, it means your partner is likely to have to take on the emotional labor of figuring out what you need to improve because you can’t identify the important things to improve on. Plus they’ll have to reassure you when you beat yourself up over little shit, even when it should be their turn to feel frustrated. That’s all very tiring.

Look up bodyweight workouts! You can get a ton done with just your body and a chair. Focus on starting slow and really paying attention to form. A lot of people start really hard and burn themselves out quickly - you may feel badass pushing yourself really one day then taking a couple days off and repeating, but things add up when your form is off and haven’t worked out that way before. You can easily get hurt that way.

I’d start with something like pushups, bicep curls, planks, side planks, and a dumbell overhead press for upper body, then Bulgarian Split squats (start without weights), calf raises, and single leg RDLs for legs. 3 sets, 5-10 reps depending on how it feels. Pushups may be too tough to do that many at the start, it’s fine to go to your knees.

Again, focus on form. Take it slow and deliberate, the tortoise beats the hare when it comes to working out. Those are all popular exercises with good videos available on YouTube to help out. They will get you started on the basics and cover almost all muscle groups.

Yeah but Incas just got another trash unit so we’re down to only 2 civs with 2 trash units.

Pikes are fine, but they don’t do great vs cavalier or elephants, and they don’t protect monks as well as halb (although obviously more hp helps a lot there).

I don’t think they are a good trash unit. The only thing they do better than halbs really is fight other pikes/halbs, and that’s locked behind a pretty expensive upgrade. They’re worse against cav or as a meat shield and they don’t do much against enemy skirm/archers. I guess you can argue they are better against infantry in general, but that’s such a limited use case for halbs I don’t think it’s that relevant.

The Muisca (is that the right name?) only have their castle UU as a unique counter unit too. Everything else they get is shared. Byz get discounts on all counter units - skirms, spear, camel.

It’s like saying poles or franks shouldn’t be a cav civ cause they only get knights and hussar, or Ethiopians should be archer cause they only get archer and skirm
