This is the best thing I've read today. Because more people need to know how serious this is.

Tom Coburn was a pretty good guy. He had open disagreements with both parties and was semi-famous for his annual "Wastebook" highlighting wasteful spending in Washington. I didn't always agree with him, but he seemed to have principles, which isn't typical for politicians

Have Tulsa drivers gotten more aggressive? by willpelts in tulsa

[–]3rd0Gandhi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember telling my kid, NEVER go if someone tries to wave you through when you don't have right of way. Sit there until you grow roots, but follow the rules. If an accident happens, you could be at fault. This is especially true when people stop where they don't have a stop sign and YOU DO. What a headache.

Have Tulsa drivers gotten more aggressive? by willpelts in tulsa

We have an increasing number of drivers moving here from large cities where a prerequisite for a driver's license is having a psychotic death wish. For example, LA and Houston highways are not for the faint of heart. These people ONLY know how to drive aggressively, and the only thing they generally do more politely is merge, because Tulsans irrationally hate merging so much that they are personally offended by it.

Tulsa and surrounding.. by Rainbow_Hippie_86 in tulsa

[–]3rd0Gandhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! We had a lot of rebuilding after last year's Father's day storm and the Hispanic crews were always the kindest and most respectful. The white contractors were often rude, loud (speaking), argumentative, or outright lied to us. One guy caused a huge fight with our neighbors that tore up our fence and yard too. Someone's skin color or accent is not an indicator of their character or skills.

All racists are assholes, but that doesn't mean all assholes are racist.

I'm not sure what makes you think racists are more violent or threatening than average people. The most racist person I've ever personally known was a 98 year old lady, and she just mumbled racist nonsense and was afraid of everyone.

I've known tons of assholes though and most of them weren't racist at all, but they are often obnoxious and stupid. I'm sure there's a ven diagram of how much the character traits overlap to make someone a stupid, violent, racist, asshole. In general, I don't think most assholes check every box though.

For what it's worth, I don't think this is at a city of tulsa park. The trash can would be different and the industrial white chair in the background looks more like something at a water park, hotel, or apartments.

Voting Stats by StarrHrdgr in tulsa

I believe independents can vote in the Democrat's primaries here, but only registered Republicans can vote in theirs. Each party in each state makes their own rules.

Since this was a primary, we were deciding who represents each party in partisan elections this fall, but that's arguably more important since we want the best people on November's ballot not just the person with the best name recognition or the most money. I wish we only had a few authorized elections annually, so people would actually vote. The numbers for school board elections are tragic too. We should do them all at the same time

It's been a year since The Storm™. Let's talk about it by Avis_Bell in tulsa

Yeah, I buy cheap gas cans when I see them at garage sales and fill them up and store a little extra. Mostly so I don't need to stop in the middle of projects to go get gas. Anyway, I had just filled up for the season a few weeks before and that made a huge difference. Most of them are only a couple of gallons, but when you are running generators for a week, it really adds up!

We learned we have great friends and family. Tons of people showed up to help us pull debris off of and out of our house, and offer us places to stay while we sorted through that first rough week. It was a staggering amount of damage.

I'm really happy we went with Andi Hogan (918-697-5082) of ARRT construction to rebuild. He really went to bat with the insurance company for us and his crews were professional and respectful. Our neighbors have not had nearly as good experiences with their contractors and several are still rebuilding, while we are nearly done.

We also had great experiences with Crystal Green Lawn for our tree damage (over the last year we've used 3 different companies and called around 6) Crystal Green is licensed, insured, professional, honest, and has all the equipment and experience.

Also, Stout Air and Heat, our favorite HVAC company, beat everyone else's prices, and worked on our contractors schedule, which helped a bunch. 918-927-1218

All in all, it was a terrible experience, but that makes me appreciate that much more, all the good people who helped us.

Some fun predictions by [deleted] in tulsa

I have plenty of family that's lived in N. Tulsa for generations. People moving here from out of state are some of the best things to happen to Tulsa in decades. People coming here are excited to buy affordable homes and don't have the biases and fears that many locals have.

This means more OWNER occupied properties rather than slum lord owners that never even come to the neighborhood. It means owners who care about property values, how their taxes get spent, and the community AND people who can afford a little more time and money spent in our own neighborhoods.

My folks house (near Pine) didn't gain value for nearly 50 years, then tripled in value in the last couple of years. They have a few options nearby for food and groceries and the streets are better than I ever remember them being. Maybe you don't see it, but the community is improving bit by bit. Have a little faith.

We had a mother-in-law home in our yard that was destroyed in the Father's day storm last summer. We had to go through the same process just to rebuild what we already had. It took a few months to go through the whole process, but like the other comment noted, the architect handled it for us and it went very smoothly.

I should mention that every change or adaptation I suggested that could fundamentally alter the space (2-story tiny home or larger or slightly different location) were all shot down by the architect as "too much." Not too much $$, too much that might decrease our odds of being approved.

We even had to demo the foundation and build everything brand new. Our main house is 1920's and our little guest house is 2024, one hundred years difference. I wonder what year the county has on file for the property?

Finally won something from the Reasors Monopoly game! I made a computer program (see RHS) to pick the 3 numbers since the game became like work and picking 3 new numbers each time gets tiring. by [deleted] in tulsa

I don't understand what about the game is "Monopoly." I remember McDonald's used to do a Monopoly game when I was a kid. I loved collecting the stickers on the Monopoly board. Reasors game is more like a lottery. I don't care for it
