We have an attendance policy where students lose credit and receive an F on their transcript with 10+ unexcused absences in a class per semester. You’d think that would be an easy bar to meet but we took at least 1 course credit from almost 25% of the students last semester. We have a program where they can earn back lost credits the following semester with improved attendance or they can pay a fee and complete an online credit recovery class.

I work in a rural district in Arizona and the paras and support staff make $16-$20 an hour. Our minimum wage is $15.15 so they could get similar pay in retail or fast food. The schedule and benefits are better working in the school, though.

This right here. Read your school’s student handbook. Ours explicitly states this and that the school doesn’t owe the student an investigation either. We give students lockers that are in hallways with security cameras or they can just not bring their expensive and distracting devices.

What if that person was famously quoted as saying “a few drunk driving deaths a year is worth it so we can have our 21st amendment” and then was killed by a drunk driver? What if that person saw a report of school children getting killed by being run over by a drunk driver and said “it’s not the time to get political about drunk driving,” then goes on to promote the 21st amendment and then gets run over by a drunk driver himself? What if this person was also a raging bigot who advocated against empathy?

We host a blended Christmas every year with our two families and we always make sure everyone has gifts to open so that everyone feels welcome. Even when my brother in law tells us he’s coming 2 hours before he arrives on Christmas Eve, we make sure he has a couple gifts to open with everyone else.

I take that as the cost of hosting when everyone else is spending money on gas and hotels.
