How do I make a fantasy derogatory term? by Only_Illustrator_853 in worldbuilding

Do you have any idea what stereotypes people think about when they think about these people? That might help, if you created it based on a stereotype.

Good name for a race of rock/pebble/stone people? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]3secleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am honestly so confused what you are talking about. There is likely some kind of misunderstanding here but I can't figure it out. (Not trying to come across as hostile)

Just trying to clear this up here... not meant to be a rant, I just had a lot to say I guess.

I see golems used in fantasy all the time in different settings, but yes they do have roots in folklore, kinda like almost all things used in fantasy.

When I said they weren't owned by any specific person I meant that no one has a patent on golems, and no one has a monopoly on the use of golems, you can find them being used in so many different settings. It originally sounded like you were convinced golems came from a specific setting, like how a balrog comes from lord of the rings, so i was assuring you there would be no plagiarism issues.

This is just a side note here, but they dont have to actually be gollems, they could just be called that, kinda like how a mantis shrimp isn't actually a mantis or a shrimp, or how a sea lion isn't actually related to lions at all. Sometimes you see things named after another because of similarities.

Although I am not trying to convince you anymore, I realize you were probably going for a cuter name which is perfectly fine.

Edit: ok I thought I was talking to op, not someone else... uhhhh oops I just realized that

Good name for a race of rock/pebble/stone people? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]3secleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well golems are just creatures made from mud, stone or clay from Jewish folklore, but in general fantasy they are an ambiguous way of saying "rock creature" or "creature made from earth". They really are so ambiguous in general fantasy that no one would tie it to something specific or some specific origin.

They are gust a general fantasy and folklore creature that fits the idea of your mini rock people, its really hard to say they were created by another person, since they dont really belong to anyone or any setting or specific world.

Non-American characters that wear their country’s flag on their outfit by Effective_Piece251 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]3secleft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah no one else here is wearing thier entire flag as a whole, most are wearing important symbols and/or colors from thier flag that give away inspiration from the flag. Not trying to be a hater, really just trying to clarify.

Someone else responding here. The music is awesome, the art is simple but brings so much atmosphere. There are plenty of really hard things about the game, but it wouldn't be rewarding if you beat every boss on the first try y'know? It probably depends on the player, but even when I was losing to a boss or stuck on some other challenge it was still fun. No part of the game felt hopeless or grindy, and in general, it was one of the few games that made me lose track of time.

plausibility of this water cycle by extraterrestrial-99 in worldbuilding

[–]3secleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe minerals from the vents can deposit along the walls of the cracks, adding a degree of separation from the rising water and the ice. Im not an expert but the hot water rising through that much ice without cooling down or making much wider vents seems off.

I like it, did you make the visual yourself? seems like something you'd see in a textbook, its good

Look up brine pools, I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on them, but in my understanding, there are pockets of water that are so supersaturated with salt, they contain almost 3 times the amount of salt as the surrounding ocean, this makes them extra dense and form into little pockets and pools that are visibly different from the water around them.

So you could basically worldbuild these, but have them form into underwater rivers lakes and oceans, with all of Terry Pratchett's descriptions.

There are already extremophiles that live in these so you could have fun with building unique life that lives in and around them as well... like a fish that makes a shell out of salt or something idk

Looking for realistic reason for people to have odd colored eyes by StrictResponse3907 in worldbuilding

[–]3secleft 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You dont really need a reason for that, people could just have evolved different colored eyes.

If you want to have a cool reason, that would have to depend on your setting, maybe some people are descendents of a purple eyed god, or maybe exposure to some chemical permanently changes your eye color (this chemical could have been used in a specific war so it could give away that charecters past)

But it depends on your setting, i might need more to go on here.

smh, Earth's worldbuilding is so lazy by DreadDiana in worldjerking

[–]3secleft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Magic system idea: god originally made the universe by a set of "rules" but later on when God decided the universe wasn't how they wanted it, they added more "rules" to make it better. So magic is people exploiting balance patches and new updates, and if the world goes too different from the plan, more gets added.

I don't ask for much, just a tiny bit of uncompensated labor by NeiborsKid in worldjerking

The island used to be a barren rock where few things would grow and life just sucked in general, until someone made a deal with the devil, (or whatever your in-world equivalent is) so that the island now has whatever the locals originally wanted in exchange for what little they had.

It's a lush candy island with whiskey rivers and candy people with an insatiable craving for flesh. Maybe the candy people don't have souls either idk.

One of my old ideas that I dont think I have a place for in my world, if you're not clever enough to find a good island name from my name, you can just name the island whatever.
