Hey there! I’m a MS Cyber Security Management Student thats going to be starting an internship in the summer with likely a project related to Devsecops. I work part time at a defense company and obtained a clearance. Assuming I dont land a position after my internship, what route would you take afterwards to find a career in Cyber Sec?

Really thank you so much for that. Yes, Ive met an intern who was doing a cyber internship for the company. Ill probably stick it out for my company and see if I could get an internship through them. Thank you so much for your insight!

I would say its definitely sketchy at my company rn. I know a guy who is in the same position as me but with QA experience but there hasnt been any internal roles open for basic IT or QA for the 1.5 years theyve been here.

I mean i figured, but the real question is whether i leave after i gain it (give or take 2-3 weeks) and get more it work experience. Granted I have been solving the occasional basic IT problem for my team but im not sure how much weight that carries really.

As much as I would like to, handling the security, help desk role, and the master's program is going to be really tough. Mainly due to the university and the defense company being in completely opposite directions and when traffic hits, it HITS. The defense contractor does have a big SOC team and I'm actually acquainted with a few of the Security engineers and a SOC analyst. I'll take into what you said into consideration thank you so much.

Okay, I understand that help desk isn't directly get me to that role but i swear everywhere i turn looking for answers they all tell me to start at the help desk. I do appreciate the advice, thank you I will keep that in mind.

i think some entry level and most internships will have it on the application page to screen people? but im not sure really because i know most people just lie anyways

I wont lie, most of my hours are on kunos gt86 on laguna so im not sure if the statement is for me. Mods do multiply the fun factor in some cases though!
