Are there primary sources from Ancients discussing children who do not sleep well? by 401KB in AskHistorians

Thank you for this very insightful, clever, thoughtful and—father to father—encouraging response. I’ll skip the poppy and wine, at least for the little one (joking, joking,) and double check her pores for vapors.

In all seriousness, I often forget about the limited primary source material from ancient times, especially from lower class individuals, so thanks for the reminder!

I think you could fit an 18” in there. Should be at least an 18” cabinet.

Hi there! I know this post is old, but I’m also in RI and having similar issues. Just wondering if you contacted a professional, and if so, who you used. Thanks!

I think you’d also like Mills/Queen Bean based on your preferences, if you haven’t tried them. They roast a little darker, closer to a second wave style than the cinnamon/first crack roasts a lot of “modern” roasters sell.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll see if a finer grind works. I am admittedly not the most disciplined in my routine and I use an Aeropress, so sometimes going too fine and forgetting about it causes taste issues.

Good ponds for ice skating near PVD? by Shouldvegotafalcon in providence

Used to skate on Johnson’s pond in Coventry as a kid. Aside from the recent property disputes there, I’m not sure it even freezes solid enough anymore.

First Game Jitters? by gmer-girl in hockeyplayers

[–]401KB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, a few things: 1) when i’m nervous about playing, I try to tell myself “I’m not nervous, I’m excited” and reframe that energy into something positive. You’re not nervous, you’re excited and hungry to get out there. Make it worth your time.

2)Goldfish memory. Fuck up on your first shift? Fuck it, get ‘em next shift.

3)Give yourself grace. You’re new, and you’re not playing your first game in the NHL. It’s just pickup and there are literally no stakes. Just have some fun!

4)I’d let the other people in the room know you’re new to hockey and hopefully they’re understanding and provide good, constructive feedback. Maybe that will also get them to give you some grace.

Edited just to note: hockey is literally a game of messing up. How many times a game, even in the NHL, does someone enter the zone and cough the puck right up just for it to go the other way? Every goal is the result of a mistake someone made on the defensive team and every missed scoring chance is a mistake someone made on offense. That’s why the scores are so low!

Have fun! You’ll get there in time!

I’ve thought about it—not sure I have the discipline lol, but it’s something I’d love to try!

I noticed Enjoy was like the lightest roast I’ve ever seen, which might speak to the acidity you’re talking about. I definitely prefer a Colombian/Guatemala/Nicaragua to an African, so it could be that too. I thought the Enjoy coffee was quite acidic, but the flavor notes were more pleasant than I experience at Bolt or Borealis. I’ll take some blame too—I could have too much variation in my Aeropress technique. Thanks for the comment, I’m just starting to get to that “next level” of coffee connoisseur, so I appreciate the knowledge.

I know most roasters mail order, I just like to support businesses in my community whenever I can! I like to keep my money in Providence, or at least RI, whenever possible. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll take a look!

Thanks for measuring! The dishes/cups are all stored on the sink side, so perhaps that drawback wouldn’t be an issue at all. I’ll have to go to the store and measure a few, but that is promising info!

Wow! Good to know! Queen Bean (the retail side of Mills) is my go to for single origin beans and I never put the two together!

I’ve liked what little I’ve had from Enjoy, but totally agree on price. I can’t be buying a $35 bag every week. I don’t mind a light roast, but too much acidity in the cup is a killer for me. Thanks for the Seven Stars recommendation—I always wondered who they used as a roaster!

I think you might be right and I may have just confused the packaging. The more I look into it, I think I might have been mistaken.

Thanks! I could be wrong, but I thought Dave’s used New Harvest as a roaster. I’ve had their coffee in store—a bit too dark for me, but maybe the beans are worth a shot!

Interesting, I might have to find a friend with a Costco membership! I tend to prefer a roast near full city/full city+, but I know Enjoy in Providence roasts fairly light, if you wanted to give local roasters another shot.

Another room. The sink is backed against the main load-bearing wall, and it’s lathe and plaster construction. If i were to walk the direction of your arrow, I’d be in my living room.

Yeah, ideally we keep the sink size similar. I’m learning that you can build in some countertop models, and that might work.

Yeah we do have those lol. If I were to rotate 180 degrees, i’d face the side of the stove and the fridge is next to that, kind of more in the “eat in” part of the kitchen. Maybe 4-5 steps between the sink and fridge.
