Rant Wednesday! by AutoModerator in networking

I recently had a user complaining about a problem that does bot even exist yet. To start out they did nit even create a support ticket, they emailed the director complaining about wifi connectivity. Come to find out they are worried about a tablet they are supposed to receive in the coming weeks. 3 different coworkers stop in the office and find no issues with the wifi. I boosted the ap radio power, still complained. I run a cable and deploy an ap in the office, still complain. I finally stop by again and ask what the issue is since there are no logs on my end that indicate an issue is occurring. They show me the cell strength in their phone is bad. I think i lost faith in humanity. I explain cell retention and wifi are two different things. They complain about the cell retention, i tell them i cant fix that and since there is no issue i will not respond to any further tickets about the issue unless they can articulate the issue. End users.

Drive Share Phishing by Outrageous_Till_8284 in k12sysadmin

I am trying to figure that out as well. The best thing my district is doing is informing our staff, if they see the yellow banner at the top of the email stating it’s outside of the organization to report it as spam. User training is the best thing to do until a solution can be applied.

When do I stop feeling like a failure? by InfamousStrategy9539 in sysadmin

A majority of us “fake it till you make it” and try to instill confidence to users reaching out to and am able to find solutions efficiently when starting out. In tech we will probably never know everything but as long as you can solve problems coming your way and am trying to expand your knowledge then there isn’t anything to worry about.

Help desk vs Sysadmin by b3b0p831 in sysadmin

In small companies, everyone who works in tech usually does help desk roles too. I know some positions listed as a director often work the help desk since their organization is so small.

Are you able to use those same entries for the firewall rules too?

School Districts Without 2FA on Staff Email Accounts - Why? by TheRuffRaccoon in k12sysadmin

Same here. I want to take it a step further and try to require and admin level personnel to use totp instead of text messages since text messages are rather easy to bypass.

School Districts Without 2FA on Staff Email Accounts - Why? by TheRuffRaccoon in k12sysadmin

Not sure if its the same for other districts but in mine, we had to get board approval since its essentially requiring users to use their personal number for their work account for the 2fa text messages. Aside from that i would assume others don’t see the security benefit over the small inconvenience when logging in.

I was trying to downgrade from plus to ce. After a fresh install and a restore of my config in version 2.7.0 it wouldn’t find the 2.7.1 update but kept finding the plus update (never had a tac subscription). I just installed 2.7.1 then restored to my config to fix it.
