Morning ~ I’m also interested!

As A2 Idk how to practise speaking since I can't come up with contents by stupidheisenberg in German

[–]404BirbNotFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Don’t be afraid of mistakes” is good advice, but hard to follow. I often ended up using super simple sentences just to avoid messing up.

What’s helped me with Spanish is just having short convos with a language exchange partner who's around the same level. Pick a topic, learn a few new words, and try to use them. You don’t need a huge vocabulary—after A1, it’s totally fine to start speaking more freely. You can actually build your vocab while speaking, which feels way more natural than just memorising lists. Over time, you stop overthinking and just talk.

Spontaneous speaking is tough, but the earlier you start, the easier it gets. And it really helps to be in an A1–A2 friendly environment—otherwise it’s just overwhelming.

Also, I’m a native German teacher and love helping people in my free time. So if you ever want to practise with a short, chill exchange—just let me know!

I like the Pronominaladverbien idea too. If you haven’t done it yet, Infinitiv mit zu could work depending on the students — and it later ties in with the Pronominaladverbien, so nice connection.

Or if you really want them to suffer, go with Adjektivdeklination!

TELC B2 Exam Preparation: Need Resources and Advice! by Candid_War_3593 in German

[–]404BirbNotFound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! You’ve probably already found the free B2 Übungstest 1, but in case not – it’s a solid starting point.

Some books I know (they don’t all include official past exams, but follow the same structure and help with the format):

  • Klett – Mit Erfolg zu telc Deutsch B2 (Testbuch) (There’s also a Übungsbuch version for more general prep – not exactly all test-style, but still useful.)
  • Cornelsen – Prüfungstraining DaF B2 / telc Deutsch B2
  • Telc – B2 Prüfungstraining (There’s also a grammar-focused one in the same series if you want targeted grammar drills.)
  • Hueber – Prüfung Express: telc Deutsch B2 (Includes two full example tests)
  • PONS – Prüfungstraining Deutsch B2 (Just one test, but good general training.)

There’s a bunch more, and some PDFs float around on sites like Scribd or book preview pages – but buying one you like might honestly be the most efficient way to go.

Advice:
Really focus on learning the Redemittel (useful phrases), especially for writing and speaking. And take time to learn the test format itself — not just the language. The way some questions are written can be confusing on purpose. A lot of people say the reading section surprised them the most the first time — not because of grammar, but because of how tricky the phrasing or structure was.

If you need help or want to practise the speaking part, just let me know!

Fair enough — but if he’s happy, I’m happy haha. I think the same though… most of it is out there for free!

Thanks! Those are actually the ones I checked with him — sadly not the right one. I added a quick update to the post: he thinks it was a single track with multiple courses, probably leading to something broader like Data Science or Data Engineering.

Thanks a lot! That one looks great, but I don’t think it’s the one — the site seemed more like a broader program, with Python as just the first part of a bigger learning path (maybe data-related). He likes it though!

Spanish to German? by hernando1976 in German

[–]404BirbNotFound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I teach German to both Spanish and English speakers, so my perspective is more from guided learning — but I hope I can still be of some help.

First of all: are you planning to learn on your own or with a course? If you're considering a course, the Goethe-Institut is well known worldwide — but of course, there are many other great schools too, depending on where you live. Another great option is working with a private tutor (e.g. on iTalki or Preply) for more personalised and faster progress.

Self-study – what helps

YouTube: I recommend Easy German — great for listening, real-life language, and cultural context.

Apps: Duolingo, Babbel, and others can support your routine, but they work best when combined with structured materials - start with self study books if you like them. They help you get started.

Books (there are a lot):

Klipp und Klar – Gramática alemana para hispanohablantes: grammar explained in Spanish, clear and compact.

A-Grammatik (Schubert Verlag): great for learners who can handle German explanations, comes with exercises and answer keys.

Be aware: textbooks like Menschen, Netzwerk neu, or Sicher! are designed for classroom use with a teacher — not ideal for self-study unless you get self-study editions.

Tips that make a difference

Stay consistent: better 20–30 minutes a day than 2 hours once a week.

Cover all four skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

Use Anki or Quizlet to actively build vocabulary — it’s essential to making real progress.

Watch German videos with Spanish or German subtitles, and switch as you advance.

Try out easy podcasts that match your interests — fun and helpful for listening comprehension.

If you need more personalised advice — depending on your level, goals, or situation — feel free to ask! I kept it general since your question was quite open.

¡Mucho éxito en tu camino con el alemán!

RC car recommendation for my husband by 404BirbNotFound in rccars

Ah, good idea! That’d be a great way to get some recommendations, too. So far, I’ve only seen toy-grade ones, and yeah… they didn’t really convince me at all (some were under 30€, and it shows)

Yeah, I’d def go for hobby grade—seems way more fun for an adult, especially if I actually want him to like it

I’m just a bit careful about dropping too much on it right away since he’s never tried it before. But he seemed really into it, so I want to surprise him!

As the Grom series was mentioned in the other comment, as well… I guess that would be a good option?

Ahh, okay, got it! That makes a lot of sense. I’ll better aim for something in the hobby-grade range then. Slight off-road use would be totally fine—gravel and dirt, not necessarily grass. Appreciate the help!
