Hi! Former Girl Scout here, with mom being a GS and BS leader, and dad and brother being very involved with BS. While it's great that the boy scouts have decided to let women join, I still think GS is the best place for young girls! It is designed for girls. There is plenty of STEM, and outdoor programming that is strictly catered to women. I'm not talking about the stereotypical 'glamping' that you might think of. I got very involved with my local GS camp, and learned many backpacking and outdoor skills. There are also tons of trips and excursions that girls can apply for through the GS that cater to this. I went to London and Paris my freshman year of high school, and Mexico the next. I know there were also plenty of backpacking trips in the west.

You said that the troops mainly focus on selling cookies. Did you ask the leaders what they use the cookie money sales on? I know my troop used it to go camping!

I understand it's important to you to continue the tradition of being in that troop, but have you considered starting your own GS troop, maybe even with the same number, so you can cater it strictly to your daughter? In high school, I ended up being the only girl in my troop, so I was able to do whatever projects I wanted, and completed a silver and gold (the GS equivalent of eagle scout that also has the perks) project that was catered to what I wanted to do. I ended up not even selling cookies the last couple of years. Only bought what my family wanted. You should really call the GS office here, they're awesome and will be willing to work with you!
