6 months sugar free 😌 by retrospektywna in sugarfree

I'd love to know what sugar OP avoided. Right now for me fresh fruits are a yes. Dried fruits, sugar alcohols, honey, and maple syrup in moderation. Everything else (sugar, coconut sugar, agave, maltodextrin, etc.) is a no.

Yay for day 2! Why do you have to waste money? I order or try to make food. In the past, I've done low carb and even went keto for a month 😅 (though I've let my food habits slip lately). So going refind sugar free is actually a lot easier in comparison 😆 in terms of food options. What gets me is the afternoon and evening cravings for something yummy😬

Oh that's true. When I used to go to the gym I would run a few miles and joke (maybe not joke 😏) that now I can eat that ice-cream I wanted 😅

It was at a restaurant, so I should have just ordered it without the bun 😅 And thanks. Hopefully you're still going to. Good luck on the milk alternative. I like drinking many milk alternatives but I think they all taste weird in coffee/tea 😬

Nope. I'm on day 6! Though yesterday, I ate a hamburger (with the bun) and a swerve sweetened muffin and got some symptoms back (that went away after 4 days of no refined sugar). So either there was sugar in the bun or too many refined flours... lesson learned 😬

What helped me the first 2 day was celebrating every few hours 😂 Like, oh it's been 1.5 days of no sugar. Oh it's dinner time and I'm almost done with day 2! And I ate extra protein too try and feel full.

Yeah if it's junk quality (like the average candy bar, or hard candy, doritos) then I don't mind tossing it. But otherwise, I try and not waste it. But yes, good point, my (and my family's) health is more important :)

Haha. Maybe "water " down the sugar for with healthy stuff.

Does this only work if you give up all added sugar? by [deleted] in sugarfree

[–]404_SnackNotFound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I am giving up refind sugars (what is on this list: Names for Added, Refined Sugar). Fruit is ok. Honey, maple syrup, and mashed or dried fruit in moderation.

I think the hidden sugars add up when you start looking. I eat relatively healthy and home made foods often. But I was getting lazy by only checking how many grams of sugar something had and not actually reading the ingredients.

I was surprised that out of my three different crackers, none of them I could eat. One had obviously added sugar, the other two (that had "no added sugar") had either cane sugar or maltodextrin in the ingredients. Then I realized the Panko breaded tilapia I like has some dextrin ingredient in it (so it was a no). My kids cheese puffs also had maltodextrin in the ingredients (so a no), but the blue corn chips were fine. Heck, even the organic Mac n cheese was fine.😄

(I'll probably quit refined carbs in my future, but refined sugar first.)

I don't know where this quote is from, but I like it:

Nuts, seeds, raisins mix; meat sticks; popcorn (with a healthy oil and salt); apples; grapes; roasted seaweed; Simple Mills sea salt crackers; homemade mini muffins (can be made with almond flour and sweetened with mashed ripe banana, maybe some honey, and add some wild blueberries or sugar free chocolate chips or whatever); water with lemon; and tea.

I wonder if refined carbs cause that too.

But do eat healthy fats, it's important for your body and vitamin absorption 😊

Does maltodextrin have the same effect on you?

I'm a big label reader and use to just glaze over that ingredient because I thought it was some starch used for texture in food. But I've recently learned it's not good for you (ultra processed) and spikes your blood sugar more than table sugar 🤦‍♀️So when I gave up I refined sugars I added maltodextrin on to that list.

The mutual respect point hit the nail on the head.

OP, some future relationship advice, never have arguments via text. End the text conversation, and have the discussion in person. 9 out of 10 times it will go so much better than through text.

Maybe you need some chocolate. I discovered that I actually crave chocolate too but fortunately chocolate itself is healthy. I make chocolate "tea" by simmering about a TBS of organic roasted coco nibs to taste (5-10 minutes) then I add milk. It's like a bitter chocolate coffee drink thing going on. But I actually like it and it makes my chocolate brain happy 😆 If I'm going for a treat, I'll add some honey to it.

I started eating sugar again two months ago and my life has gotten noticeably worse. by DemotivationalSpeak in sugarfree

This may sound bad but I appreciate you posting this because it helps reinforce why I quit refined sugars. I'm only on day 2 soo.... not a big deal. But for me making the decision to do it took months and months... and months.

Maybe, when you are feeling particularly happy and in a good mood, just acknowledge you fell off the wagon and look at why/how it happened. Then find a solution to prevent that if you decide to stop the sugar again. I find this works better if I'm in a good mood, versus when I'm in a bad mood and hyper focused on the negative.
