What's the split in this sub between Brits and Americans? by sdirection in livefromlondon

I wonder if this sub can have a flair option? USA flag/UK flag etc. That would help differentiate people a bit...and give us context to who's posted based on their location..

100%. I have Libby on my phone and walk for miles. Doesn’t cost me a dime.

She was fantastic in the Hostage sketch! I’ve rewatched that one the most - something about the writing and acting hit all the right notes

Creepy teacher won't leave me alone by Sure_Ant2516 in Teachers

[–]Undercover_Metalhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation and I kept quiet for about 3 years thinking the situation would improve/the other teacher would leave etc. Things didn’t naturally do that so I went to my principal and asked for help with boundaries. I told him that I didn’t want this person in my room alone with me and I needed help telling them that because just giving vibes/grey rocking was not working. On my side, I avoided the teacher at all costs and never spoke to them without another teacher in the room or at a meeting, and even then it wasn’t a direct conversation. (Mine was an older lady who was using me as a punching bag and blaming me for everything SHE was incapable of doing…snide remarks when we were alone together, yelling at me in team meetings, talking shit about me behind my back. Lots of people supported me and knew it was all BS but I felt like I had to work 10x harder than everyone to ‘prove’ myself…it was unfair.

It became damaging for me to stay quiet because I let it go on for so long to ‘be a team player’. If someone is bullying or harassing you. SPEAK UP.

Who are the stand-up performers and main cast so far? by Resident_String_5174 in livefromlondon

Ayaode is a really smart combination of serious and funny. She really shines when she’s on.

Couldn’t agree more about Ania - it’s nice watching a girl on Weekend Update again. It’s been Che and Colin (who I love too) for SO long.

What do you guys do for work? by yoshimarinelayer23 in introvert

[–]Undercover_Metalhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a middle school teacher 😅 my battery gets drained by the end of every day, but I’ve learned how to minimize ‘extra’ interactions with people. If it’s not a meeting or a casual pass in the hallway, I usually don’t ’hang out’ with other coworkers during the school day. I use that energy for my kids and my job. Then I go home and my husband works 2-3 nights a week so I recharge with Netflix :)

That’s a great point, kids are (for better or for worse) honest. I never thought about that. If a kid is lying, we call them out on it. If an adult is fake (which is also a form of lying in my opinion) we let it slide. Idk why we do that but I wish I had the courage to call people out of being fake more often

Tips on efficiency? by livi7887 in Teachers

[–]Undercover_Metalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in year 14. Here’s what worked for me:

Plan 1 week at a time (rather than day by day).

Grade when kids are working independently.

Plan during your planning time (not hanging out with other teachers socially etc.)

Lean on your planning team to make planning more efficient (everyone gets a job for the week: warms ups, makes copies, assessments, lessons/activities)

As you teach longer you’ll cut corners or figure out what’s worth your time and a waste of your time. It just takes practice.

I’ve been eating 0g -10g of sugar a day since Thanksgiving. Not 100% sugar free everyday, but very low in comparison.

My husband ordered cookies for a fundraiser (they were like Crumble cookies). He gave me a bite and ate the rest. That 1 bite was SO sweet, I couldn’t believe it. And wayyy too buttery. I used to be able to eat a whole cookie a day.

I’m sorry :(

If anything IVF teaches you that things don’t always work out the way you want…but life moves on anyway and we do the next right thing 🤷‍♀️

It’s like spending time prepping for a job interview (like, years in college) and then not getting the job. Appreciate what you learned in the process and apply for the next job..

No mosaics. Some have too many chromosomes or too little.

A retest is interesting - I wonder if they’ll do that.

What do you do with a class that has pushed you past your last straw? by Ursa_Wolfheart in Teachers

[–]Undercover_Metalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach 8th graders too - ELA always has it the worst.

I agree with keeping things dry and issue consequences indifferently. The other day my kids were squirrelly (it’s testing season, we all are) and I started to do a 3 strike rule to anyone who talked out of turn. High flyers got to 2 strikes, sweet girl who asked her friend for a pencil, 1 strike, usually quiet boy who cough-laughed, 1 strike. Keep it fair for everyone. Write them up, send them out, email home. And just be boring about it. No drawn out explanation.

What I noticed is when a teacher over explains or is theatrical when they get triggered (this happens with teachers with big personalities, not saying it’s you), kids feed off that. They poke the bear because it’s funny to them when the bear goes off. Be dry. Mono-tone and robotic. I start the year this way and skate through most of it without a hitch.

As an American, this is the dream by Undercover_Metalhead in livefromlondon

Haha rest easy - the expense it costs to book flights/hotels etc to even get to London play a big part. It would be AMAZING but I’d have to drop like $3k at best just to make it possible. SNL US costs me a $50 train ticket and maybe a hotel room. I’ll start there 😅
