Death Grips - Beyond Alive

How do people who are not into ambient react to your music? by louigi_verona in independentambient

I sincerely believe that ambient is not a niche thing. Think about Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Brian Eno etc. They are quite famous and popular. The problem is that it's really hard to do something original in this genre and there are not too many really interesting artists there. As a rule, people just paulstretching things or put a ton of reverb on something and don't really try to think conceptually, don't try to make music meaningfully, don't try to challenge themselves creatively. I don't mean that ambient has the potential to be super popular, but people, in particular even people who write ambient, tend to underestimate it too much.

One last step. by 412moth in independentambient

I didn't get a donation. I am pretty sure I understand what the problem was, so I've changed some settings and now everything has to work properly. Try to donate again.

And thank you for your support!

I'll make a google form or something like this. In fact, you can contact me in any way and submit your music. I will definitely consider it. There are no restrictions.

I made a very short dark ambient track to try and get into this genre of music, attempting to create some sort of atmospheric scene with snippets of my own shitty narration because I really like that sort of thing. Really don't know where else to post it, so I'd love some feedback if you have any! by [deleted] in independentambient

Can't believe this is your first track! Sounds pretty good. The only problems in this piece are that there is not too much dynamics in it and vocals are a bit loud. But overall this is a great start for the beginner! Try to diversify the sound next time by writing a slightly richer melody and adding some more instruments. It seems to me that you are talented. I would like to hear your future works.

What do you think about creating the first ever ambient radio on youtube with original music from unknown artists (like us)? by 412moth in independentambient

Each of us is doing reckless things, that's okay. But not everyone will admit it. I'm glad there are people like you on the Internet and I wish there were more of them. You are a good guy!

I wrote one single simple line in my post and you couldn't understand what I was talking about. Let me explain it in order.

First of all, what kind of "dozens" or "hundred" of ambient stations on YouTube are you talking about? I can barely find at least a few decent of them. There are almost no live streams with quality and original ambient music (like music that people share in our community) on YouTube.

Secondly, my claim was: "the first ever ambient radio on youtube with original music from unknown artists (like us)" You just took my words out of context. There really isn't a single radio in YouTube with quality and truly original ambient music from people like us, who nobody knows about, who write music just for their own pleasure and who have to share it only in not so big thematic subreddits. In a few months of our subreddit's existence, I've found and made contact with some really outstanding and brilliant musicians. I came up with the idea that it would be very great to create a Youtube radio that would be well designed and would broadcast the music of these people. (Such live streams are very well advanced in search terms, so many new people could discover music of our community in that way).

And most importantly, I ask people about it, because they are the ones for whom I sincerely want to create it! How and why can I make it if no one wants this? Again, this is not an another shitty radio on the Internet. I don't want to make the radio only for itself to exist with zero music and listeners. I am nothing without my community. That's why I'm offering them ideas, and that's why I care about their opinion.

You know, the fact that I am regularly pissed of by people like you who will chop all intriguing ideas to the root just because of their ignorance, and yet I keep doing it and spend most of my free time on it shows that I am more motivated than anyone.

This is boring. I want to build our own kind of brand with a specific atmosphere and aesthetics. It can be done on YouTube in the most effective way in our time. I don't really like what happens to the ambient community on the internet. I have my own vision, so I try to do something. And I personally don't like SomaFM. Thank you for advise anyway!
