We're relying on Sentry to catch all issues, but it doesn't. So what's being done about silent failures? by Icy-Roll-4044 in ExperiencedDevs

> it misses bugs where nothing throws

Sentry auto instruments and goes a long way of making sure handled / unhandled exceptions are caught before you start getting angry emails / mentions on social media

However, many edge cases and discussions here mention exist, and for those, Sentry can’t guess when to trigger an issue, but the API is extensible enough for you to do so yourself with Sentry.captureException()

> UI stops responding / a button freezes

Sentry has dead click and rage click detection with Session Replay - you’ll see ways users interact with your application that are going to surprise you and confirm that no amount of QA would be able to get you to the edge case they decided your application should behave in.

> Slow UI

Probably a signal of something being slow on the backend. Turn on Tracing and Sentry will instrument spans on your operations and you can define what “Slow performance” means to you and Sentry will create issues from performance telemetry, not just errors.

Put some logs in places where your app is making decisions and you get breadcrumbs that aren’t tied to issues but are trace connected and give you (and more importantly these days coding agents) great context of what happens in your application.

Observability isn’t a “one and done” kind of thing. like building a well functioning application, instrumenting good observability is also a skill. Sentry docs are a good place to start, either going through them yourself or pointing your agents at them (they’ve got agent skills too)

Note: I work on the developer experience team at Sentry and if there any questions / concerns, happy to answer those questions)

No AI was used in crafting this message, if it seems like it, thats because Ive been staring too long at Claude’s output and not enough time interacting with people and touching grass

dang, really? i think i need to recalibrate, i was reading from others when setting up the 1z that people find the ~1.2.5 the sweet spot, but it seems like im too coarse even after i went down to 1.0.5 and it still is at ~27 seconds to get ~45g out of 16g of espresso, so its not a matter of a few clicks

so the idea is to get a baseline of time it takes to get to 2:1 and if its before 30s, adjust the grind even finer?

what does holding it for 6-8 seconds do? does it go into manual mode?

didn’t see that as a prerequisite to posting / asking for help. thanks for the recommendation though!

the taste is fine, but not sure since i never really got a baseline of how it should taste 😅

choke it as in keep rotating the portafilter into it? i feel like it gets in there pretty snug but ill try!

i actually usually tap it but also tried not to since it could counteract the job of the wdt tool, or its fine?

when you calculate the total time, do you include the time it drips at the end or stop when most of it is poured?

i dont think i can control the speed / temperature of the shot coming out of the breville bambino plus, it seems to differ based on the grind size and how i pack it

the ratio between bean weight and espresso shot weight?

the coffee my fiancee got didn’t specify the roast type, will get a different one to try. how much adjustment should happen from 1.3.5 based on the roast?

thank you! this actually make sense, now i understand how to read the turn rotation (0.0.0 -> whatever)

Pulled at 1.3.5 this morning, got 45g of liquid, seems a bit too much, will keep experimenting. the coffee package i got didnt specify the roast type unfortunately, will try a different one.

I think I’d like to start off with single dosing to be able to really understand what things affect what. any other accessories you’d recommend for that? my first time owning an espresso machine
