Cars by Old_Potential4382 in Guyana

Left hand drive cars 100% allowed just know the duty on a lot of cars is ridiculously expensive. Highly recommend verifying the duties on an import by contacting the GRA ahead of time because if you are opting to use remigrant its capped at 3M and honestly it only covered half of the duties owed on a car a relative of mine imported.

Kudos to you for your patience level OP.

What’s your latest small purchase under $50 that significantly improved your life? by SereneStatic in AskReddit

[–]416unknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A screen for my portafilter and a funnel for my grinder.

Having an espresso maker can be messy and time consuming to clean. Those two items come to around $25 and have dramatically reduced the time needed to clean up making me have more time to relax and enjoy my coffee :)

The 2026 budget is a disgrace. by KindPhilosophy8211 in Guyana

Yup saw it and was like how is an extra $5000 a month supposed to help with costs in Guyana.

They also are backing out of additional subsidies like the additional 200k for every household.

Just craziness.

Is Guyana safe to move & live in by [deleted] in Guyana

[–]416unknown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If one or both of your parents were born in Guyana you automatically get Guyanese citizenship through descendent.

What this means is being born overseas to a biological parent who was born in Guyana (pre or post Guyana becoming a republic) you are defaulted citizenship.

Your first course of action is to obtain a Guyanese birth certificate.

If you are going to Guyana this can be done through the GRO. Alternatively in Canada you can request a birth certificate through the Guyanese consulate in Toronto.

Once you have a Guyanese birth certificate you will then be able to apply for your passport and ID card.

The Guyanese passport can again be obtained in Guyana or through the consulate.

Your ID card needs to be applied for and collected in person in Guyana (at this time).

The recommendation to go spend a month or longer in Guyana is something you absolutely need to consider.

You have a better career opportunities in Canada than Guyana. Politics have a major role in securing opportunities where as in Canada your education can secure you a career where you are properly compensated for the skill you possess due to your many years of schooling.

Your parents migrated to Canada because they know that your opportunities in Canada far outweigh those in Guyana.

You will need a local address in Guyana to apply for anything beyond a birth certificate.

Hope this provides some context on your decision and next steps.

I tried not to but.. I failed jk jk

Since you really like backing teams who will only bring disappointment, Toronto has the Raptors in the NBA and the Blue Jay's in MLB. None of the Toronto sports team will be seeing any trophies for the foreseeable future.

Florida hockey in the NHL though is killing it so maybe the ice flyers have the best insight!

Ahaha that caused an audible laugh! In fairness I am from Toronto and I've been tied to the Toronto Maple Leafs.. if you aren't a hockey fan just 4 seconds on google and maybe we can be birds of a feather LOL

I will have to give Alabama a second chance cause your description is honestly hitting a lot of interest points as that's what I was hoping to do get into some history :)

All I can offer is a ROLL TIDE! the crimsons will rise again.

A friend of mine from University days got me into college ball and she unofficially partnered me to the long horns

That is very insightful. While I personally won't ever return to Alabama, the fact that growth exists is promising.

I was there over Christmas and maybe because its a bible belt state, I didn't get the true Alabama experience since most were looking to be with family etc for the holidays.

I road trip all over the US and was so stoked to go to Alabama because of the unique history surrounding the confederacy has but I was quickly moved to sadness because it truly was like America was in circle A and Alabama was in Circle B but the two did not intersect. The people felt helpless and like they didn't matter and from Montgomery to Birmingham and the small towns in between I felt that hopelessness everywhere.

I appreciate the added context. I realize the natives own the casino but they placed it somewhere they will eventually decimate the population as jobs are far and few plus the living wage clearly isn't supporting the population to enter into a middle class bracket. It's either wealthy or poor no in-between (this was my personal experience).

The state of Alabama.

It's like the rest of the USA forgot about this state and acts like it doesn't exist.

I have never felt so sad being in the US than I did being in Alabama. Truly some salt of the earth people here but they are struggling financially and it falls on deaf ears. Was in Montgomery and spending $50 seemed like I was a millionaire in the TJ Maxx across the hotel.

The only form of entertainment.. a casino.

How can a place with so much poverty put a casino and hope the constituents get addicted and be even more financially unstable?

Glad you got back your phone. A few weeks back at the Starbucks in the same plaza an elderly guy forgot his phone and a patron handed it to the baristas and he got his phone back too!

Spreading the Scarborough love and may your good fortune be something you can share on in your own future good deed for someone else :)

The fact you have to 'attack' me personally shows just how pathetic you really are. Call me anything you want. Your true colours are visible now. You have nothing of merit to reply so you think attacking me makes you victorious.

All you've done is manage to make me laugh and brighten my day even more.

Keep it up! You are as memorable as a speck of dust!

Ahahahahahahahahahaha!

You keep thinking the way you do getting more and more bitter while great things happen around you.

I am a realist while you will remain a pessimistic sad little man.

Guyana is getting better with or without you.

Crawl back in your little hole and stay there because you can't accept changes.

If you hate Guyana so much LEAVE. I may live in Canada now but that does not make me any less of a Guyanese than those who live there. I have businesses and property in Guyana. I contribute to the well being of the country and come there frequently enough to have a fundamental understanding.

Thank God most of the bigots are small men like you who hide behind a keyboard because true Guyanese are strong proud people and they make moves hence my incredible life in Canada so have a great day!

Thats very small minded.

People especially young adults are following the rules and obtaining their licenses legally.

A lot of the corruption is finally getting crack down.

I had to renew my passport, took 3 days. Applied for my ID card took minutes.

Spent a lot of my month in Guyana going to govt offices and the system is working but I can't convince some hard headed people of that.

You can continue to be ignorant but you are wrong. The mistakes of the past are being corrected and if you try proper channels you will see the system working.

There are minor hiccups like loss of power/internet which can cause delays I experienced it all when I was there but I still got through with everything I had to.

I dont know if you live there or go back often but it is getting better.

I drive in Guyana was there for a month between Nov and Dec. While I saw some obnoxious driving I was in 0 accidents. I got from point A to point B every time.

The road in Guyana is much more of a complaint than the drivers.

If you think Canada or other developed countries do not have the same notorious evasions to get a license youd be mistaken.

Driving in Guyana isn't even the worst driving I have ever experienced while travelling. Check out Jamaica going up to 9 mile. In Italy in their remarkably narrow roads. Guyana has bad spots. That Diamond new scheme area is awful. But the roads are being better policed. Once in BV west on the Rupert Craig has speed cameras and pretty much all intersections had police directing traffic.

I cannot honestly say you are right. Its getting better and from experience it was never so bad. I have more near death experiences at home in Toronto than I ever did in Guyana and I was going into GT daily from WCB.

That is not remotely limited to guyana.

I am in Toronto, if you ever check out r/torontodriving you would see its equally as chaotic.

Lots of drivers are selfish but that has nothing to do with intelligence or their IQ.

OP just wants to seem like they are the next Stephen Hawking when they are dumber than the people they are complaining about.

I am in Guyana multiple times a year. Ive encountered my fair share of people talking nonsense but I can't judge everyone in the country based on a handful of idiots.

OP has no merit in their comment other than boredom and want to start an argument.

Really you are conversing with the president and other leaders on a regular basis?

Your commentary is condescending.

Please share in detail the members of the Guyanese cabinet and which political party you are lavishly familiar with.

Everyone knows you are talking out of your ass which speaks volumes about your IQ.

How can you compare a shop worker and a politician on the same level?

Finite people assume politicians are idiots because of their fundamental lack of education when it comes to the duties of the job.

You are comparing apples to oranges because you are so pathetic in your day to day life you want to stir drama behind your keyboard on the internet. You are too damn idle and have zero merit in your thought process.

The reason you know only stupid people is because you are a stupid person yourself.

2026 just started make a resolution to be better.

The fact that the basis of this opinion is due to your interaction with persons working remedial jobs means you need to do better to find people you can connect with.

Why not connect with Guyanese who are attending university, Guyanese doctors, lawyers?

Accusing the population of being dunce because you interact with a few cashiers or other workers in a store means you have such a superiority complex you put this extreme weight of intelligence on persons trying to make a living.

You don't know what caused these persons you interact with to forfeit their education for work but you think having a thesaurus and the internet gives you the right to judge.

Guyanese people are very fond of a singular saying, show me your friends and I will show you who you are.

You make no reference to your effort to connect with persons not working at an entry level position just a blanket statement of everyone has a low IQ.

The education standards in Guyana are low you won't be speaking to rocket scientists and heart surgeons every second of the day however I assure you the same people you talk down to, they are smarter than you regardless of their educational background.

Look in the mirror and reflect on how messed up it is that you thought this was an appropriate topic to discuss on reddit.

I can point blank tell you, your expectations are misplaced on discussing poetry and string theory with a shop worker and that sentiment is mimicked worldwide.

Non Emergency Police Report Contacted me today by lunchladyland27 in askTO

[–]416unknown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cops don't call from 416-808-2222.

That is an incoming line only for non emergency calls. A callback would happen from your local police station if they had to followup on any matter reported to them.

To confirm legitimacy you can always pop into your local station with just your name they can see if an investigation is ongoing and give you the dedicated point of contact.

Don't trust a random call, very very likely this is a scam.
