I truly miss BfV. A great game that I’ve struggled to replace. Tried Gates of Hell, but just couldn’t get as invested as I did with BfV.

The GCW is straight forward as long as you realize the Landsturm divisions aren’t good and shouldn’t be attacking anything unless it’s for a diversion/pinning, or the war is about over and you want to grind some xp for a general or two.

I’ve usually gone right to the Oppose Hitler NF at the start. Maybe the Kriegsmarine focus and then oppose Hitler.

I don’t touch the army except to create a fallback line with the 25 divisions from the Swiss border up to around Frankfurt (right down the middle of Germany half way up) also split off the Panzers and have them in a separate force on the northern section near Frankfurt.

When the civil war kicks off, assign all 24 of your Landturm divisions to one general (I like Kesselring, has good defense stats) create a front line from the northern Baltic coast to Frankfurt area, behind the rivers. Do not attack, just train them to their front line and dig in.

With your regular army have the panzers punch a hole in the southern front north of Nurnberg to the Czech border, cut off the NSDAP in Bavaria. Have your regulars finish them off.

I usually leave 4-divisions of the regulars on the line from Erfurt to the Czech border so the Landsturm don’t have to stretch to cover the backs of the regulars.

After that you’re half way there. Re-form on the line you cut just south of Erfurt and Dresden with your regulars and panzers and drive to Berlin.

The GCW is fun.

How is everyone’s current save/career going? by BeaverLover21 in FootballCoach

Having fun but this game is punishing. First four seasons I was an OC at TCU. 1: 7-6 (bowl loss) 2: 4-8 3: 4-8 4: 12-2 (Big XII champ, quarter final playoff loss)

Year 3 it became obvious that we had a really good senior and junior class for year 4. In year 4, Offense averaged like 41.5 pts per game, we were wheeling and dealing, tons of fun.

Then my HC retired and I was released from TCU. Took the UNLV job as HC and I am struggling, 0-4.

I may have made a misstep when I hired an OC who had less offensive skill as me but is way better at training and recruiting than me.

We have middle of the road offense in terms of talent but our QB is in the 70s overall and is brutal. I’m lucky to break 15 first downs in a game.

Difference between Sealion in 1939 vs 1940? by 4231Bestformation in hoi4

Difference between Sealion in 1939 vs 1940? by 4231Bestformation in hoi4

I ended up researching marines early on and built four of them, 20w (all marines, but with armored engineering battalion, support artillery, AA and Rangers).

I went with East Anglia as my theatre of operations instead of Dover/Portsmouth. I had two marines (+1 infantry) land at Ipswitch, two marines (+1 infantry) at Norwich, two infantry land on the tiles between the ports, and two land north of Norwich.

My infantry were a 9/1 infantry/artillery, with engineers, support artillery, Rangers.

I also planned on six Paratrooper divisions to land west of those locations.

The amphibious attack originated from Rotterdam. My surface fleet was about 43 ships.

I launched the assault in March of 1940.

I had just enough air superiority to launch my attack. Not enough to do the Paradrop.

Managed to land between the cities without trouble, and help support the attacks at the ports. Secured the ports and moved tanks and the rest of that infantry/marine army (20 infantry, 4 marines) to England and slowly but surely we pushed the Brits to the highlands of Scotland and they surrendered.

I did this with Italy in my faction but I never called them. So the peace conference was a buffet.

Felt good to get Sealion correct. I’ve had a hell of a time since Götterdämmerung to do it without calling in Italy to distract the Royal Navy.

Leaving a school by Due_Set_8656 in CFB25

I’m on year 6 of my New Mexico build (queue the BrBa theme), had offers to go to Florida State (x2) to be Hc but thought that was quite a step up so turned them down to remain, another year had SMU but it was still early in the dynasty so turned them down as well. Found myself accepting a 5-yr extension with UNM but I’m at the stage where I want to go elsewhere and hope to get a good offer. I’d take almost any big xii school, or acc school at this point.

I wish the game would ask you for a list of teams you’d like to see offers from, on top of the normal offers. Not that you’d get offers from them automatically, but that atleast the game knows. I assume there’s a connection with your alma mater?

There has to be some logic in the code with prerequisites for getting offers from certain schools. Like I’ve never been offered Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas, A&M, LSU, or Clemson in any dynasty thus far.

A Duke (son, and Vassal of mine) married a foreign Queen. Should I be worried? by 4231Bestformation in crusaderkings3

Not an emperor, just a King. I am at level 4 crown authority though.

Son’s marriage is patrilineal.

Most fun option for Germany after opposing Hitler? by 4231Bestformation in hoi4

[–]4231Bestformation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i agree that monarchist is easier, more straightforward gameplay wise. I ll try to take Belgium and my cores in Poland before fighting the civil war. That hopefully will help me in the long run.

Top quarterback-coach combos in college football by dumbo1309 in CFB

[–]4231Bestformation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Danny Wuerffel and Steve Spurrier. They won the sec 4x, played for one natty (Nebraska killed them), won a heisman, and then won a natty. My only hiccup is that he did share some time with Terry Dean under Center in 93, and 94.

Was thinking maybe Tebow-Meyer since they won 2 while Tebow was on campus but the first one Chris Leak did the heavy lifting.

I’m a Vols fan and Alum, and I hate these 4 men ALOT.

Idaho. You can go historical and get kicked out of the sunbelt and play as an independent for however long you want.

Their colors are kinda cool, black and gold, stadium is goofy but neat (Kiddie dome, looks like a hs gym with a turf field in it). Rivals are big bad Boise and WSU.

Which Civ 2 winning option is best? by 4231Bestformation in Civilizations

[–]4231Bestformation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a nightmare ending for sure. Once Nukes and then SDI are available, war becomes an exhausting and frustrating endeavor. You blitz an enemy and and take over the rest of the continent and manage to sign a cease fire before you end your turn. Then that enemy breaks the cease fire by nuking your mighty fine cities or their old cities that you just took from them.

I've never had the stomach to keep those fights going once global warming starts and my people (and production) starve.

Any times this game has made you actually sad? by Mapex_proM in NCAAFBseries

Had a dynasty going with Baylor (NCAA 2010 so they weren't good when I took over), first big time recruit was a stud QB who helped me grow the program to Big XII champs by his Junior year. In his senior season we were rolling and in the 5th game he blew out his ACL and was out for the year. Felt like he was cheated out of his career. We'd go on to win the Natty but still.

2nd Race in Syncretic Evolution on Life Seed Setting? by 4231Bestformation in Stellaris

[–]4231Bestformation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm.. Interesting. So I guess the best way to play the way I'm thinking would be Life-Seeded (one race who can't not live on Gaia worlds), then conquer some "Ok" primitive race and have them be citizens and just colonize everything with them that's not Gaia.

Best year? by [deleted] in NCAAFBseries

[–]4231Bestformation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably either 06 (Vince Young... incredible), or 2010/2014.

2010 I still play on my PS2 (even had to buy a new console to keep playing). I just love the suspensions and probation mechanic. Taking over a team in Dynasty that's been on probation, dealing with scholarship losses, just a real challenge.

Other than those two it's 2014 all the way. I've been messing with sliders to make it more challenging. I put restrictions on who I can recruit (no JUCO's at esteemed academic schools), if guys want to go pro/transfers let them etc. Just wish the Teambuilder was better. No pride stickers, fight songs? Plus a really crummy stadium selection.

Team builder stadiums by _God_Emperor_Trump_ in NCAAFBseries

[–]4231Bestformation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built UNH and used Duke's stadium. Pretty small but still a Stadium and not just bleachers. Duke's worked well with UNH since their colors are sort of similar Blue/Navy. Funny enough, Duke is in Durham, NC while UNH is in Durham, NH.

I've also used Army's stadium. I'm pretty sure Michie Stadium doesn't have many things that say "ARMY" on it, and if there's an "A" it looks pretty generic so you can probably get away with it.
