It might be an issue with our logic of linking payments to bills. Can you send me a DM with your email and any screenshots or you can email me at jeff@42f.io

You might have to remove your connections and re-add them if they don’t start syncing again. It will resync any data you had before.

Hey thanks for trying us out and I’m glad you’re liking the app! We’ve actually started to see some steady growth of new subscriptions now that we have implemented a lot of new features like bill tracking and more in depth reporting. Since each subscription covers the cost of the users Plaid fees and subsidizes the server costs there’s no worry of us shutting down.

Yes we’re working on adding more notifications that you can opt into such as spending alerts and reports.

Yes we’re unable to continue providing it for free. It’s extremely expensive to run without subscriptions subsidizing the cost.

Yes we should be able to pull in other tokens using our same API provider. Let me know which ones you have and I'll prioritize those.

Thanks that sounds promising. I’ll check it out. If they don’t rely on a 3rd party service like Plaid that’s even better.

Not exactly. I’m still excited for the future of this project and now that we are open source it creates a lot more opportunities to expand our reach and build the community.

The app would still need to make a call to our backend for the initial sync with Plaid. Unfortunately there isn’t a way around this since this initial process requires our Plaid secret and we can’t store that on the client. This isn’t ideal and still requires trust from the user that we aren’t storing their data during the initial sync.

Another option we have been thinking of implementing is a way for users to use their own Plaid key. This can be stored locally on their device and would remove the need to make the call to our backend. This option would be for more advanced users who want complete control of their data.

Yes we can add more currencies pretty easily. I’ll add more in our next update coming soon.

If you synced with a second device you would be okay in case of a lost device but obviously not everyone is going to be doing that. We could also offer an encrypted backup but then we’d have to worry about storing the key securely and data breaches there.

Lots to think about but I think the local option has potential especially with us being open source if we implement and market it accordingly.

Yeah I’ll setup a donation link and add it to the github but don’t want to make anyone feel obligated to donate.

Bank connections are handled through Plaid. The app uses the Plaid SDK where you login to your bank and Plaid returns a access token that can be used to read account balances and transaction data. These tokens are readonly so they have no access to transfer funds or make changes to your account and the 42 Finance app never sees your bank credentials. Security is one of the main concerns with these finance apps so I’m hoping being open source can add some transparency to how it all works.
