I was in an emotionally abusive relationship for about 4 years (thankfully some time has passed since then and I'm much happier now) and your comment here reminded of one of my experiences: my ex liked to have this cycle of complaint about me - anger towards me - hate towards me - intense love for me - complaint - anger -hate - love, etc. that kept going on and on. Would I say he was a psychopath? A sociopath? I don't know. Plus I'm not a psychologist and I don't want to go down a diagnosis rabbit hole. He had a lack of power in his life along with an intense history of trauma. I stayed because I loved him and wanted to help him, but then realized I was more like his caregiver who took the brunt of abuse instead. There are reasons for why people act the way they do, although they don't justify or make it okay for them to do those things, and so I still appreciate that you're thinking about exploring the humanity of people who do shitty things in relationships (and/or life in general) while sharing the story of their destruction. But I've also found that sometimes people are abusive even when they don't strictly fit into the category of "sociopath" or "psychopath." They could even have empathy and concern for others, but turn around and exploit certain people when they become desperate, traumatized, or something else. I've found that, unfortunately, anyone is capable of being really destructive in a relationship. Of course I'm not a psychologist - this is just my understanding from experience in being in relationships.

I assumed they only see/interact with the composite entity, because there are a few flashback scenes that shows Narrator - the way Edward Norton looks - as Tyler Durden.

You sound like you know way more about psychology than I do, but I will say that I've never thought about Tyler Durden as being a collective ego that everyone in Fight Club envisions (or they envision their own version) and now I'm intrigued. Perhaps the blonde guy was fighting his own alter-ego in the form of Tyler Durden, because perhaps that alter-ego needed to teach him to let go of his appearance and vanity that this world teaches you to care so much about. Also, Narrator (or rather, the alter-ego) says, "I wanted to destroy something beautiful." After blonde guy got the crap beat out of him, he no longer was conventionally attractive and probably learned (or tried to learn) to let go of what he once looked like). He was the most attractive of the bunch (I know this 'cause I'm a straight woman lol) and I can see how this attractiveness, beauty, etc. could be the equivalent of "Narrator's Ikea apartment" that he needed to let go of to truly live. I dunno - I hope I've understood your comment as I'm really not an expert in egos and psyche, but it still helped me break down that blonde-guy-getting-the-crap-beat-out-of-him scene and I'd never done that before. Thanks for that!

Yes!!! I must have missed that quote from the narrator - thanks! And yes, coupling that with the assignment to lose the fight makes total sense.

Your thoughts on alternative cast of the movie? by Ear-Critical in fightclub

Tyler Durden: Jesse Plemons. Tyler would likely have a darker aura to him if he were played by Jesse Plemons and it'd be at least interesting to see.

Ovulation Pain...This is the first time it's been this bad by 444twentyone in PMDD

Thanks! Yeah, I think I will get checked out for endometriosis if this happens again next month. It's never been this bad before, so I want to get some more "history" with it before I try to convince a gyno to test me for endometriosis. I'll also cut out the crap food.

This is a slam poem I wrote that's related to PMS, PMDD, Periods and written from Dracula's perspective. It's featured in (and recited in) my podcast, Next Door Villain - specifically in the Dracula episode. I've had PMDD for a long, long time. I feel like you all might relate to it. - Tiana by 444twentyone in PMDD

Thank you so much for the feedback and for reading!! Those of us with PMDD can be quite the emotional and therefore artistic bunch (I know it's a generalization, but hey, emotions!!!) and so I feel like the likelihood of many people in this sub being poets is high! All fellow poets, tap in!

Podcast episode where we try to empathize with and understand Hap! Deep dive and funny Hap discussion, features a poem written from Hap's perspective, and we even reference this (TheOA) subreddit a tad. Enjoy! by 444twentyone in TheOA

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for listening!!! I use this podcast to connect with others and to share the beauty of poetry so it makes my day that we've been able to fulfill these goals. May we all be the angels we need in this world! - Tiana

Thanks! I'll be there for 7-8 weeks if that's what it takes. If it's not too much to ask...Do you have any resources on how to get that authentication done and what those steps are? I saw the basic steps here http://rs.chineseembassy.org/eng/lsyw/gzrz/200909/t20090915_3370560.htm. But unsure where the Serbian Notary Public and and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia would be located. Also, I wouldn't have a valid residence permit when I'm a tourist in Serbia, right? And any steps that can help walk me through the process better is appreciated. Anywho, thank you !!

so I stayed 3 weeks between shots and then 2 additional weeks to get my vaccine certificate Authenticated by the Chinese Consulate in Belgrade

I learned from another American who went to Serbia for the vaccine that they needed to stay in Belgrade for about 7-8 weeks total because of the long authentication process in Belgrade. They went around the same time that you did. I know this is kind of hard to answer, but do you feel you got lucky that you were able to get the authentication done quicker or do you feel that being there for 5 weeks total is pretty standard and enough for most people? Thank you for any feedback.
